New start for the Olympic Games!

TheOlympic torchwill belit againthis summer - but not without a fair amount of controversy preced-ing it. Preparations for the smooth running of the games, after being postponed for a year, have been an obstacle course of problems, fromthe absence of spectators, scepticism of the residents of Tokyo, to the disqualiﬁcation of athletes testing positive for coronavirus. However, the 2020 Olympic Games (yes, the name is the same despite the delay) is also unique in other more positive ways. For the ﬁrst time, 33 sporting events will be introduce to the competition, including new ones like surﬁng, skateboard and rock climbing. In this edition, we feature a veritable tour of the most important sport ing event in the world.

You probably plan to watch your favourite Olympic events from whenever you spend your summer holidays.Thissummer, tourismiscomingbacktolife andtheFrencharetakinghesitantstepsoverborders towards new destinations. However, the pandemic has recently exposed the ecological impact of trave ling, encouraging many to reevaluate the way we get fromone place to another. To ﬁnd a way to go on holidaywithaminimumof environmental damage, head to the section, Société, for a ‘green travel guide’ by a journalist fromThe Independent.

Finally, go to our Culture section for another sunny place, as we dedicate a special spread to renowned painter David Hockney  whose work will beexhibited at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris this Autumn. Famous worldwide for his paintings of California, Hockney has turned his interest towards Normandy, and a cottage where he now lives and enjoys painting the wonderful seasonal variety of its landscapes.
