Description

A psychology for the "New Age" from which we may finally discover through each (opposite) other "Who am I?" and "Why am I here?", bringing closure to our incompleteness. "There is only one choice in life--each other. In the one-force paradigm, this is the exact choice we have not been able to make. No wonder why we long ago went crazy. We are blocked from our procreative life together in spirit, mind, and body. But with the understanding of the two forces of creation in making the conscious metaphysical distinction between male and female, we can now rectify this problem. We can accept our other half into our hearts and lives by simply saying, 'I choose you.' Such is the existential choice that will bring life to our lives. " Psychotherapy As If Life Really Mattered

Preface

Psychotherapy As If Life Really Mattered is a journey through the boundaries of the mind/spirit from the perspective of creative (life) balance. The task is to experience the depths of our own imbalance (insanity) and, thereby, surface into clarity and consciousness. From this journey it is hoped that finally we, men and women, may be able to care for our own souls and, in turn, stand together, just as it was meant to be from the beginning.

This one moment begins … now!
Something is Missing

Have you ever thought or felt within yourself that something very fundamental to your life is missing? This can’t be all there is, can it? There must be something more, something so very special that we haven’t been told about. I, for one, have felt this for as long as I can remember. But it seems that everywhere I turn, I only see that something (so very special) is missing. How can this be? Certainly someone must know. Isn’t there anyone who can tell us what it is? Are we just to go on, resigned to the “fact” that something should be there and we know not what? How unfortunate is this state of affairs. Maybe in the future we will be able to find out just what is missing. But for me the future is too far away. I can’t wait; can you? Whatever it is that is missing, I want to partake of it now, for you see, it must be so very special.
The Pretense

But a most peculiar thing has happened. For some unknown reason, a shadow of silence has descended upon us. No one wants to speak out and say, “Hey, something is wrong.” It seems we would rather just pretend that everything is all right. We walk around with this pretense that everything is just fine, that nothing is missing from our lives. “Hey, how are you?”—“I’m just great, thank you.” And all this time underneath the formalities of the day, we want to scream, “No, it isn’t all right.” In fact, when you think about it, things are pretty messed up. But we don’t want to think about that. We prefer to keep it to ourselves, all bottled up inside. “If I don’t speak about it, maybe nobody else will know that I sure don’t know what’s going on.” So we make things up. Little disguises to keep people from seeing what’s below the surface. We create different responses from what we are really feeling or thinking. “What am I thinking or feeling anyway? Whatever, as long as no one else knows.” Ah, but even if they do, they will not expose us, for they are living the pretense, too. Wow! Isn’t this great? We are all protected from having our pretenses exposed out of the fear that our own pretense might be exposed. This game, unstated agreement, or whatever it is, is beginning to become very real, don’t you think? From just an innocent observation that something is missing, suddenly the stakes are very high. Our lives are at issue.
No Way Out

What are you thinking? I bet you didn’t know that the pretense is ever-binding. Yes, this is true; there isn’t anyway to get out of it. We each must continue to do our part and keep up the game. “I won’t expose you if you don’t expose me.” Yes, but what a chore. After awhile, it can begin to drive one nuts. “Well, too bad. This is just how it is!” Everyone must keep pretending for no one knows what else to do. “But I have had enough. How do I get out of here?” Don’t even dare ask. That question would, of course, assume you are in the pretense and thus begin to expose us. “So shut up already! Just read the sign up on the wall. Don’t you see it? It says bright and clear -- No way out!” Yes, you and I are stuck in some make-believe, fake, never, never-land. “But just don’t tell anyone!” Maybe we can get through it if we just keep pretending. Hey, I’ve got an idea. Why don’t we begin to share with each other our thoughts and feelings in this fake life? Perhaps that will comfort us for the rest of our lives.
The Psychotic Scream

I guess we have a lot of pretending to do. Ah, but what else can one do? “Nothing.” About the only thing we can ascertain with some certainty is that nothing here is real. “No-thing is real.” We are really unreal . Our lives, everything we think we are and claim we stand for is really unreal. “But I don’t like how that feels.” Too bad. Just think about it—everything we think and do, everything we touch, we contaminate with our denial and phoniness. Whatever in life had been pure and full of expectation is dragged into our dirt just so we can keep from being exposed. None of us really want to get out, now do we? We would rather stay in the pretense than face life, now wouldn’t we? “No, you are wrong; I want to face life.” REALLY? “Yes, I do. Listen to me. You can trust me. You can believe in me. Please, believe in me. Please help me. I don’t know what to do. Please—you had better help me. You owe it to me, you hear? If you don’t help me, I am going to get you. You will pay—do you hear? Oh…Oh my God! Help me…”

Now, don’t forget—as you’re in the middle of your eternal scream— no one else is hearing you. NO ONE ELSE! You see, no one else cares. They just pretend to.
Death

Hey, I have some news for you. Your life is over. Yes, that’s right, over. But don’t worry; inside the pretense there really isn’t anything to live for anyway. Remember, no-thing is real. Just another fake life playing at life. Just another endless scream. So now you may partake of your last awareness, that in all of your life, you have been dead wrong. Dead wrong; wow, that is as wrong as it gets. I wonder, how does it feel to be so wrong? Didn’t you once say that you could make a difference in life? Well, good riddance. With people like you around who needs enemies. In parting, let me just say, “We hope you never make it back.”

So here it is-- Your last breath. One last chance to feel life. Which life? In the next moment nothing will ever be real to you anymore. It never was! So, my friend, enjoy your death. It begins … right … now.
Courage

How does it feel—to be dead? Dead to life. Just think, for the rest of your “life,” you have the “opportunity” to be dead to life. You will walk around in “life” as if you were alive, but no, you will be dead inside. You will not matter. You will be invisible to others. Sure, they will pretend to see you— “Hey, how are you doing today?” But they won’t really see you. You may want to scream out— “Look at me, see the real me,” but it will all be in vain. They don’t want to see the real you. They don’t want to know that you have looked the pretense in the eye and died into death. No, you are now on your own. You, too, have disconnected from this unreal world. You are all alone, living your death each moment with no one else to connect with. Can you handle that? Can you handle this psychotic split and survive? Forever disconnected. Dead to the world (of pretense) around you. Left forever alone. Can you handle it? Is there any choice? The fact that you would even try is incredible. Let me say, what courage. What integrity. You are real. You are something special .
The Discovery

“I am.” Now you can say that to yourself, can’t you? Yes, you have experienced your death in life; now experience your life in death. I am —a point of consciousness. From this point of consciousness you may now look upon another and say, “You are.” In fact, I am and You are. Think about it. In a moment’s flash you (and I) make the great discovery that we are . Yes, right now, we are. We exist now. You and I exist and are conscious of our existence right now. This is what consciousness is— of our existence right now. How does it feel to be truly conscious for the first time in your life? You didn’t have to choose this, you know. You could have “chosen” to remain unconscious. The choice of consciousness/unconsciousness is with us at each moment. And we, You and I , have chosen to be conscious. It was our time, wasn’t it? You worked hard for it, didn’t you? I know I did. I am sure you now know that from this moment on there isn’t any turning back. You can never go back to the unconscious state you resided in before. There isn’t any going back because you, as have I, have made the discovery of us.
The Disclosure

I am and You are. Yes, we are, and in being we are exposed to each other. Do you see me? I see you. But wait. Do you notice what I notice? Look at us. Do you see— we are not the same. We are different from each other. Imagine. This is real, isn’t it? I mean, here we are and we can’t help but notice t
