CHAPTER 1
THE MESSAGE
God speaks to us in the most unexpected ways. Sometimes His words are carried by people we’ve never met and may never meet again on this earth. This was one of those times. It was after worship night at church. I felt a peace come over me after the service, so I stayed in my seat and dwelled in God’s presence to process everything the pastor had shared.
“Excuse me.” I heard a voice approach me. “I’m so sorry to do this. I don’t usually do this, and this has never happened before,” he explained. “God gave me a message to share with you.” There was a certain level of nervousness and excitement in his voice. He seemed to almost be in disbelief that God was speaking to him, but in that, I felt a familiar joy.
It made me remember the first time I truly heard God’s voice. My friends and I were attending a conference in Virginia Beach. After the afternoon session, we took a break and went to the beach. There was so much anticipation about this conference. I’d gone with the expectation to have an encounter with God, to hear Him, and to speak with Him.
Feet deep in the sand, waves brushing the shore, I asked, “God, what’s the number of grains of sand around me right now?”
“The number of grains of sand is the number of times I love you. It’s the number of promises I have for you. It’s the number of mistakes you’re going to make and the number of times I will forgive you. But do you see the waves brush by? That’s the number of times I will always wipe you clean,” said the Holy Spirit.
My heart was full of joy. I was so excited that I turned to my friend to tell her what had just happened.
Now I’m standing in this moment watching my brother-in-Christ process what God wanted him to share with me. “I’m sorry. This doesn’t usually happen,” he said, as he scrolled through his phone. “When the pastor was preaching, God put this on my heart to share with you. It’s in Hebrews, and He told me to share it with you!”
We both chuckled.
“Here it is: Hebrews 11:1 (NASB): ‘Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen.’ And OK, this is the other part, Hebrews 11:30. Here’s the main one He said was for you: ‘By faith, the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days,’” he read.
“Wow. Amen. Hebrews 11:30.” I wrote it down. “I’m going to read it again.”
“Can I hug you?” he asked.
“Absolutely,” I replied.
Little did I know, God had allowed him to share that message for a moment like this in your life and mine. This message was shared so your walls of Jericho would fall, allowing you to fully step into your deliverance, restoration, and healing in Him.
A couple of months later, God called my sisters in Christ and me to a full stop on the ministry He had graced us to launch a few months prior. He instructed us to set aside all work related to our organization, the Found Sheep, for an entire month. No meetings, no responses to emails, no planning ahead, nothing. The message was shared, and by His grace, we abided in His word and subdued that month to rest in Him. What started out as obedience to God’s call led to a renewal of our hearts and restoration of our strength.
Beloved, I do not know the things you face in your life, but my prayer is that everything God graced me to share with you in this book allows you to walk in complete freedom, strength, and restoration that only Jesus Christ provides. In Jesus’s name, I pray.
