What Is Your Salvation Story?

Dedicated to my wife, my love, and my best friend Sherry for her help and support .

Part 1
SALVATION OF THE SOUL
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. -Acts 4:12 King James Version
Without salvation in a soul, the soul would be without hope and without life. What is a soul? This is the part of a human being that will live on after the death of the body. There are two places that will hold the entire race of humanity once death has occurred, Heaven and Hell. This isn’t a popular doctrine today but as the Bible teaches us, we should love in deed and truth. If I didn’t speak the truth that could change your life forever through Jesus, then I wouldn’t be loving you as I should.
Now that we know what a soul is, what is salvation? Salvation is deliverance of the soul from sin. What is sin? Sin is anything that goes against what God wants or what His word says. How can you have salvation that is able to deliver you from sin and Hell? I usually tell people at church that it’s as easy as ABC.
• A is Ask. Ask Jesus to save your soul. Ask Him to forgive you of any sin in your life.
• B is Believe. Believe that Jesus died for you on the cross and that He arose from the dead to save your soul. Believe that He will forgive you and save you.
• C is Confess. Confess that Jesus saved you. Tell someone what Jesus did for you.
Do you know what Jesus will do for you if you do this from your heart? He will save your soul and give you this salvation of the soul. In the chapters ahead, you will read of how individuals were saved from their sin and received salvation from Jesus Christ.
Some of you reading this might be thinking, we know all of this. Why spell it out like you are? I think at times we as Christians think that everyone knows what we know. The fact is, everyone doesn’t. This is as simple as a little child can understand and everyone needs to know and understand how to be saved.

Chapter 1
DAVID
“The Lord knew what He was doing… I needed something steady in my life.”
How can something be rescued from brokenness? Perhaps a better question is how can someone be rescued from brokenness? Life can break us apart and leave us for dead if we allow it to. David was in situations that could have destroyed him. Did that happen? Read and find out.
Broken family, that’s what you call it, right? Up until about age 10, my childhood was good. By my twelfth birthday, my parents were married to each other and divorced from each other two different times. It’s tough trying to figure these things out when you’re 12. My name is David and I wanted stability.
Once this happened, I lived with my dad in Louisa, Kentucky. My mom moved in with her parents at West Liberty, Kentucky. I had wonderful grandparents. They were perfect in my eyes. While my mom was staying with them, I could see Mom on most weekends. This didn’t last when Mom decided to move to Texas with her boyfriend. I didn’t see her at all after that for almost a year. That made things difficult because all my dad and I would do was fight.
When a year or so passed, I started having an opinion of my own. Dad didn’t like when other people had opinions of their own, so that’s probably why he ended up being married eight times. Like all dads, mine was good in some areas and not so good in others.
The summer before my freshman year of high school I got drunk for the first time. Then early that school year, I smoked pot for the first time. These two became my new favorite things to do. Probably the only thing that kept me sane during this time was playing the guitar. Even through all of this, somehow I still managed to mostly make decent grades in school.
Some of the things I’ve said or will be saying in this testimony, I’ve had to think about whether or not to share them. There are details that are embarrassing, and there are things that a lot of people may not know. It’s all true, and hopefully it will help someone.
One of the best things that could’ve ever happened to me happened. My junior year of high school, I met a beautiful blonde girl named Mary. The Lord knew what He was doing when putting us together. I needed something stable in my life. Things were steady between us just a few months into our relationship.
Around this time, something unfortunate struck. I was arrested for driving under the influence. Luckily my parents knew the county attorney and it was taken care of. A lot of weekends I was left alone while my dad would go see his girlfriend in West Liberty. So, I spent my time having parties on Friday and Saturday nights. The Lord was definitely watching over me in my stupidity.
Mom was now living in Columbus, Ohio with her boyfriend. I would get to see her once a month or so. I cherished every time I had with her. Once I graduated high school in 1989, I moved to Columbus. Mary had become my fiancé and we were married later in 1990. We were soon divorced but then remarried. Young kids do crazy things. Mary tried to get both of us going to church again. There was that stability trying to break through once again.
In 1993, we received the best gift any married couple could get, a baby girl, Savannah. Savannah was born at Mt. Carmel West Hospital in Ohio. She’s an official Buckeye! That was a wonderful year, but some terrible things would soon happen to me that same year. It was the same hospital that my little baby girl was born in, my dear mother would also pass away. One of my three stabilities was now gone. Not only did I lose my mom, but I lost my job in Columbus. I had to miss a lot of work due to my mother dying and Savannah having reflux difficulties.
We decided to move back to Kentucky where Mary’s parents lived. My in-laws had a huge part of me finally getting saved. I would go to church with Mary sometimes but not much. However, on a cold night in March of 1996, like I’ve said so many times, a long haired punk gave his life to Christ at the last night of revival at Richardson Chapel.
For several years, while attending Richardson Chapel, I was blessed to serve as a deacon of the church. The Lord also put together a gospel singing group called the Chapelmen, which I was a part of. In 2007, something happened that still amazes me to this day. I announced my calling to preach. How amazing that the Lord would give me a job like that! Since then, I’ve been blessed to be the pastor and the assistant pastor of several churches. This is all by the grace of the Lord.
I’m 51 years old now, I’ve been saved for 27 years and have been preaching for 16 years. I’d like to take a moment and thank some individuals that have been a huge help to me in my Christian life.
First of all, I want to thank my wife, Mary. You’ve been my wife, mom, sister and my everything to help me on my way. I want to thank our daughter, Savannah. Words can’t describe how blessed, thankful and proud I am to be your dad. Next, I’d like to thank my grandparents. You, along with my mother, would take me to church on many Sunday mornings. I miss you all so much. I’ll see you again someday.
I want to thank some men that have helped me on my way. James, Harry, Timmy, Andrew, Nathan, and Waylon, who was my pastor when I was called to preach. Waylon was a tremendous help and a blessing to me. I also thank some brothers of mine that I was able to spend a special time with. Gary, Carl, Larry, and Barry. I have two more brothers who are my best friends, spiritual helps and preaching machines. Joshua and Charles.
