As a young woman in my thirties, I felt I had no skills. I’d been a full-time homemaker and done it well. However, with only a high school diploma, what could I possibly do after my children were out of the nest? Then God brought into my life a mentor Bible teacher, an upholder, an example, an exhorter, and a talented “you can do it” bless-ing—Florence Littauer. I dedicate this book to my very special friend and mentor. Florence has mentored me for over 35 years. She intro-duced me and Bob to my publisher, Harvest House, who has published all of our books since 1982. My deepest thanks to Florence and Harvest House. They have encouraged me with every step I take. God has gifted them as He has me and many of you who can do whatever your heart leads you to do. Thank you to all those who have held my hand through my writ-ing walk.

Foreword
ƒ These devotions will encourage and challenge all aspects of your life including yourself, husbands, chil-dren, friends, and theology. I pray that some will make you laugh and some will even make you cry. As with all my books, I have made each devotion very practical and very readable. My desire is for you to know God in a more personal way. Each of you will find your own time of day and individual location to spend time with these thoughts. In whatever situation you are in, I will be there with you. I have placed three boxes in the top portion of each devotion so you can check off each devotion after you’ve read it. This way you can keep track of what you’ve read. This system also gives you the freedom to choose devotions that fit your need for that day. Each brief entry carries a nugget of truth. You may say your own prayers or you can use mine to close your study. Try to carry through on theAction section of each reading. Become a doer of God’s Word and not just a hearer. TheReflectionsection is for you to make a few personal notes of how you have been touched. This section can act as a journal for each reading. May God richly bless your life as you enter into a daily walk with Him.

The Name of God
ƒ And to Seth, to him also a son was born; and he called his name Enosh. Then men began to call upon the name of the LORD. —GENESIS4:26 hroughout the book of Genesis, God uses colfeaGroeTetrracadobfoGeedsnddech.ThsdasdrowrasecemoHisealsrevsHenihcihw, semane:udcl different names for Himself to reveal certain aspects of His character. These names are especially important to a people with no written record  Yahweh: Lord (Genesis 4:26)  Yahweh Yir’eh: The Lord will provide (22:14)  El Roi: The God who sees (16:13)
God is often known by the people who worship Him; for example, to Jacob He is “the God of my grandfather Abraham, or the awe-inspiring God of my father, Isaac” (31:42NLT). The way God has made Himself known to others enriches the depth and richness of our worship today. When we better understand the nature of God through His various names and what they mean, we can begin to

grasp the vastness of who God is. He certainly has depth and breadth of character. He is to be looked at in awe. The glorious radiance of His face does not permit us to look upon Him directly. When people say that when they get to heaven they’re going to ask God so and so, I stand in amazement that they don’t seem to know who God really is. Truly God is an awesome God. Prayer  Father God, as I look upon Your majesty through Your various names, I begin to grasp Your awesomeness. My limited mind prevents me from realizing how big You are. You are certainly an awe-inspiring God. I praise Your name always. Amen.

Thank You, God, for quiet places far from life’s crowded ways, where our hearts find true contentment and our souls fill up with praise.
