INTRODUCTION
Hazart Faqeer Noor Muhammad Sarwari Qadri (Author)
The blessed name of my respected father, the author of ‘Irfân, is Noor Muhammad Sarwarî Qâdrî. He was born at a far-flung and little-known town Kulachi in District Dera Ismail Khan, North West Frontier Province, in 1303 AH. The name of his noble father was Haji Gul Muhammad (RA) who was an extremely pious, devout and righteous person in his own right, who had the honour of performing Hajj to Allah’s House and going on pilgrimage to Baghdad Sharîf four times. He was an accomplished divine, who had a high opinion of Faqîr [Noor Muhammad] Sâhib and full belief that he was destined for greatness, both outward and inward. In this connection, he had also received indications and good tidings through dreams and some perfect holy persons of his time. As a detailed account of Faqîr Sâhib’s life has already been provided in the first part of ‘Irfân, the repitition thereof is not required here.
By writing ‘Irfân, Fâqîr Sâhib has done a great favour to humanity in general and to seekers of Allah in particular and as such provided the thirsty souls with a virtual spring of the ‘drink of life’. The mere perusal of this book has quickened quite many heedless hearts. The light of this esteemed book has guided to the straight path of Tarîqat (esoteric path) a multitude of people, otherwise lost in the wilderness of sin. There is no exaggerating that neither has anybody ever written nor will be able to write such a monumental, comprehensive, interesting, rational and convincing book on Tasawwuf and Spiritualism.
‘Irfân is a compendium of unique and rare mysteries sprung from the author’s illumined heart and awakened mind. The study of ‘Irfân produces in the reader such a longing for the Creator, Lord God, as converts him into a fervent lover of the Eternal Beloved the Dweller of the Uncreated Abode. This book makes him restless and anxious until he meets the Primordial Beloved.
Venerated Faqîr Sâhib in this book has revealed three such wonderful things as have never been committed to paper before. First, he has explained the modern European knowledge of spiritualism about which the people of the East were generally unaware. He has set bare the mystery of western spiritualism, and it is for the first time that he has acquainted the people of the East with this knowledge. Secondly, to his eternal credit, he has substantiated by means of this modern knowledge, through rational and textual arguments, the Islamic and Qur’ânic facts, and suprarational miracles and wonders performed by prophets. After reading the book, the reader arrives at the conclusion that these facts are too well-established to be disputed. This book will for surely be widely acclaimed by all the sensible and honest people who go through it. Thirdly, his explanation of Quranic verses, their innermost meanings and the best exegesis leave no room for escaping the conviction that the Holy Quran is an authentic Divine Word. This has silenced the critics and findfaulters who misconstrue the Holy Qur’ân. Now, if Allah wills, no denier or objector will dare say that the Noble Qur’ân is an ‘incoherent rambling’ or a collection of ‘incomprehensible and inconceivable’ miracles or an account of ‘dull and dreary stories’. Further the personal experiences and observations of Faqîr Sâhib, which are meant to strengthen the reader’s belief, has made the book interesting and readable. So persuasively has he described all the ranks and stages right from the proof of Almighty Allah’s Essence to His ma’rifat (gnosis), mushâhidah (vision), qûrb (proximity), wisâl (attainment) and baqâ (eternality) that the reader finds no room for doubt. The author has really made out a case for Spiritualism.
In short, ‘Irfân is a unique and matchless book in the realm of Tasawwuf and Spiritualism. God willing, this book will serve as light of guidance for the wayfarers lost in the wilderness of wicked ways and prove a spring of the ‘water of life’ for those drifting in the dark sea of Tarîqat, thirsty and parched. Faqîr Sâhib has also written a few other books that too have won him plaudits, and hundreds of thousands of people have benefited from them. One of the books is Haq Nûma (Truth Reflector), which is an Urdu translation along with the commentary of Nûrûl Hûdâ (The Light of Guidance) Persian, a rare book by Sultan-ul-’Ârifîn Hazrat Sultan Bâhû (RA). His second book Makhzan-ûl-Asrâr wa Sultân-ul-Aurâd (The Treasure of Secrets and the Most Excellent Litanies) contains the best litanies and holy formulae besides giving life accounts of certain holy persons. The third book that he has produced is Nûrûl Hûdâ Persian. The fourth one is the instant book, ‘Irfân, which consists of two parts. These are the best and most beneficial books of this time on Shariat 1 and Tarîqat.
This scribe in the end prays to the Stately Court of God the Truth that He may make these books an everlasting fountain-head of guidance for those who have deviated from the right path, and the light of sight for the sightless, for the inwardly-blind and for those who are devoid of believing hearts. May these books show the esoteric path to spiritual itinerants! Amen.
The bygone melody may recur or not!
The zephyr from Hejaz may blow or not!
The lifespan of this faqîr has approached its end,
Another sage knowing the secret may come or not! (Iqbal)

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH THE INFINITELY GOOD, THE BOUNDLESSLY MERCIFUL
“Glory be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds. Blessings and salutations to His Prophet Muhammad, and to his immediate family and companions.”
To begin with, if the audience reached by this book allows to recapitulate, this author, Faqîr Noor Muhammad Sarwari Qadri of Kulachi, has furnished in the first part of this book the proof of Allah Almighty’s Being and ways and means to enrich onself with the imperishable wealth of His ma’rifat (gnosis), qûrb (proximity), mushâhidah (vision) and wisâl (attainment) through ‘commemoration’ and ‘contemplation’. Here in the second part of ‘Irfân the author is going to describe easy and tried means to summon and captivate mu’akkilât 2 and unseen ethereal creatures, i.e. jinns, angels and spirits; and as to how this army of Allah and forces of God are invoked and subjugated by means of Allah’s Pure Name and Sacred Word (Kalâm), viz wird, wazâ’if (litanies), ‘amliyât (practices) and da’wât (invocation of holy spirits) through recital of Qur’ânic verses; and as to why their services are acquired in the world of command. As it were, the first part of ‘Irfân is the theoretical part and this, the second one, is the practical part. In other words, the first part is subjective and intellectual while the second is objective and practical. It may be noted that prophets (peace be upon them), saints and their followers are armed with outward and inward, material and spiritual weapons before Allah Almighty app
