JOURNEY
Royal Rangers is a fun challenge. Yes, a challenge can be fun, but it’s still a challenge.
Sure, you could sit back and follow the crowd, but that wouldn’t test your limits. And, it wouldn’t prove you can achieve the tough mental, physical, spiritual, and social goals often reached by Rangers. The Bible says, “Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52). So can you!
In a relationship with Jesus, you have what it takes to be a godly man today! You can stand firm when others don’t. Peter wrote, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him” (2 Peter 1:3). Your parents, church leaders, and Rangers mentors will walk with you. They will guide you. They will help you know Christ. And, they will help you become the man God wants you to be.
To inspire your journey, here’s what your Rangers leaders will do:
Your Rangers leaders will set a fun and friendly tone for your Rangers meetings . What they ask from you in return is that you invite your friends . That way you’ll have even more fun.
Your Rangers leaders will provide hands-on experiences . What they ask from you in return is that you earn the merits . This way you prove your strength against a high standard.
Your Rangers leaders will give you opportunities to develop as a leader . What they ask from you is that you serve and help others . This will shape you into a man of influence!
Someone described Royal Rangers as fun with a purpose . That is true. You will have lots of fun. When you look back at the challenges you faced and the obstacles you overcame as an Adventure Ranger, you will notice that you gained a confidence that only comes from following the Master Ranger, Jesus Christ, in the company of great Rangers friends!
So go ahead. Take yourself to the next level. Make friends and have fun. Grow, soar, climb, be your best. Be an Expedition Ranger!
Experience the journey,

Doug Marsh National Director Royal Rangers

Royal Rangers PLEDGE
With God’s help, I will do my best to serve God, my church, and my fellowman; to live by the Ranger Code; to make the Golden Rule my daily rule.
Royal Rangers EMBLEM

The design of the Royal Rangers Emblem is based on the points of a compass. This is to remind us to direct our attention toward Jesus. The colors of the points have the following meaning:

•  The four gold points represent the four ways a boy grows. The Royal Rangers program has been designed to help you grow mentally, physically, spiritually , and socially . (See Chapter 2 for details.)
•  The four red points represent the four core beliefs of the Church: Salvation, Baptism in the Holy Spirit, Divine Healing, and the Second Coming .
•  The eight blue points of the Royal Rangers Emblem represent the eight points of the Royal Rangers Code: Alert, Clean, Honest, Courageous, Loyal, Courteous, Obedient, and Spiritual.
Note: See pages 9 and 32 for more information on the Royal Rangers Code.
Royal Rangers MOTTO
“Ready”
Meaning of Motto: Ready for anything! Ready to work, play, serve, worship, live, and obey God’s Word.
The GOLDEN RULE
“In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you” (Matthew 7:12).
Royal Rangers CODE
A Royal Ranger is . . .
ALERT He is mentally, physically, and spiritually alert.

Welcome to the Rangers Experience
CHAPTER 1

Welcome to Expedition Rangers!
A re you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? If so, you’re in the right place. The days ahead will be filled with the greatest adventures of your life. You will experience new things and learn new skills. You will develop new friendships. And you will grow to be like Jesus in a highly relational, fun, and safe place.

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law . . . do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go” (Joshua 1:7).

What Is Expedition Rangers?
Expedition Rangers is a small-group ministry for guys in the ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades. Groups usually hold meetings at the same time every week. These meetings typically include Bible studies, fun, and special activities called Program Features. Sometimes your group may plan extra events. These could be activities or trips to exciting places.
Many men today will say they earned a merit that gave them the confidence to enter the career they are succeeding in now.
The advancement system is one of the best parts of Expedition Rangers. This program provides special recognition to you as you progress along the Advancement Trail. Each step leads you closer to the ultimate goal in Expedition Rangers, the E3 Award.
The Trail to the E3 Award
The Trail to the E3 award consists primarily of earning three kinds of awards:
Leadership merits help you become a Christlike servant leader.
Skill merits teach skills or special knowledge of subjects, like auto mechanics, fly fishing, rock climbing, or graphic arts. These are fun and give you time to be with your friends and leaders.
Spirit Challenges help you explore God’s Word and grow into true Christlike manhood.
Merits will help you discover new things. Many men today will say they earned a merit that gave them the confidence to enter the career they are succeeding in now. You have more than two hundred merits to choose from. To see a list of the merits are you can earn, refer to the advancement logbook section at the back of this book.

Merits cover a wide range of topics. It usually takes about five weeks to complete a skill merit. When your group finishes one merit, it moves to another.
Royal Rangers is not just a series of meetings, it’s a series of experiences.
Your group chooses the merits you will work on. Some guys love the outdoors. They enjoy camping, fishing, or canoeing. Other adventure seekers may like rock climbing, mountain biking, or skiing. Others may prefer sports like basketball, football, or soccer. And then there’s working on cars and building things. Other guys may prefer to explore the latest high-tech gadget or shop at a local electronics store. Still others may want to learn to play an instrument. Those who can play an instrument may want to be in a band with their friends. As you can tell, there is a lot of variety.

Just remember this: Royal Rangers is not just a series of meetings, it’s a series of experiences . You do fun things and learn new skills. The best experiences are not confined to a meeting room. Be creative, make it fun, and make
