INTRODUCTION
In 1968, I gave birth to my second child, Rich, and 6 weeks later became “born again”. I became born of the Spirit, as in accordance with (John 3:3-8):
“Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born when he is old?” Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?
Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, “You must be born again’. The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (NKJV)
(John 1:12) ”But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (NKJV)
At that time, prior to becoming born again, in my mind I was thinking, “I want to get off “this merry-go-round”! I was searching within myself. It was a time in my life when though I had a wonderful family, a beautiful 19-month-old daughter, Lissa, and a handsome 6-week-old son, Rich, was married to a prominent business man, and was connected in all the right social circles, I still felt a tremendous void in my life. However, immediately upon “getting off the throne of my life”, and asking Jesus into my life to take His rightful place, that void began to be filled.
No one had informed me, until 9 years later, when I was at the end of myself, again, that I needed to meditate on scriptures in my Bible, to study and to fellowship with others of like-mind, and that I needed to make Jesus Christ the Lord of my life. I remember walking around the halls of my church and saying to myself, “There has to be something more. This cannot be all there is to the ‘Christian’ life”.
One day, while at Christian Women’s Club, I met a young mother, who was meeting once a week with a group of women who were from different church denominations. The women were meeting in the basement of a church and studying the Bible together. I was so hungry for “more”, that I asked her if I could join them.
That is when my life truly began to change. It was there at those meetings that I learned of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. (They told me that it was not water baptism, like I had thought, when they mentioned it.) Those women from the various denominations exhibited something that I sensed was very special. Most of them had a joy and a power in their life that I desired.
