The Conversation: When Faith Becomes Poetry in Motion
When the day comes that a person totally submits his or her life to Christ, many things happen. I now know he desired to be my Savior even before he went to the cross for me. Going to the cross and rising from the tomb on the third day was the culmination of his Father’s plan. Yes, his Father, the one who created all things, which makes him our heavenly Father also. Of course, we call him God. And he had a plan and a reason for creating man.
For many years I thought that his reason was complex and that I might never really understand. However, a life submitted to Christ also means his spirit now lives in my heart. And it is through this Holy Spirit that my eyes were opened to the truth. The first and most important truth is that the reason he created mankind, simply, was for fellowship. Yes, our creator desires fellowship with us—not just some of us, not just special ones, but everyone. But he leaves it up to us to choose whether or not we wish to have fellowship with him. And he sent his only Son not just to die for our sins but to bridge the gap between himself and us. How do we get to God? We get to him through his Son, Jesus Christ. Does it have to be more complicated than that? No, it does not have to be, and it isn’t.
I was raised in a Christian home. We went to church every Sunday. I believed in God and in Jesus. When I got old enough to make my own decision, I quit attending church altogether, except, of course, on special holidays when my mother was able to get me to go with her. I was misguided; I believed that believing in God was enough. Well, it’s a good place to start, but there is more than just believing. I did not live to serve, and I did not seek God or his Son, for that matter. I lived by the false impression that while yes, God exists, I was on my own to do right and be the best I could be, and that this effort was good enough no matter how far short I fell. But as all who try to live in this manner find out, it does not work out well. Christ longs to be our guide, but as long as we feel we can manage on our own we actually shut him out of our lives. I learned this the hard way.
It was September of 2009 that it all came to a head for me. Being upset and angry with God because my life had not been going as I had planned, I finally decided to actually talk to him. Lo and behold, that is when Jesus came into my life—or should I say, when I finally realized it was important to let him into my life. Once I did, and I allowed him to walk side-by-side with me throughout my life, it became clear just how much I needed him. And with a life finally submitted totally to Christ I found that many doors swung wide open in front of me.
I have always had a passion for writing, especially poetry. But once I started using this gift, a gift of ability given by my Creator, I found I really enjoy using poetry to describe my life with Christ and his connection to all of us. I hope this message put to poetry that he has given me helps someone, anyone, who finds this book become blessed in the manner our Lord wishes for him or her. Please enjoy, reflect, and strengthen your relationship with Christ. And if these poems help you in this endeavor in any way, then just remember this: give God all the praise, for he is in total control. And I do not believe it is by accident that you have read any of this book. Thank you.
On a very personal note, there are many people whom I wish to thank. For her love and support, I dearly thank my mother, Delores Williamson. Also, for his support and guidance, I thank my father, Al Williamson. To my brother and best friend, Brent Williamson, I say thank you.
To my Abundant Life Christian Church family: Pastor Steve Schoch, his wife, April, and daughters, Kaylee and Jordan. To two of the best people I’ve ever known, Jerry and Kathy Nichols. To Brenda Weigleb for her constant encouragement. Kathy Thompson, Tammy and Rob Schoch, Kelly Roy and the rest of my church family. To my cousin Quinn Gilbert and family, cousin Kelly Jo Hogan Posante and family. And a special, heartfelt thank you to my cousin Teresa Schlagater for all the hard work she put into helping me organize this project. Finally, to two people who have gone on to be with the Lord before this project was finished, but who always gave me lots of love and support, my aunt Dee and cousin-in-law Laura Gilbert.

1 Talking to the Savior
The Conversation
The Devil sits on one side screaming in my ear,
While Jesus on the other side says, “I am always near.”
Satan takes his pitchfork and pokes it at my pride,
But my Savior simply smiles and says, “I am on your side.”
The demon shows me my mistakes and says, “You’ll always fall.”
He says, “The Word of God is big, and you are just too small.”
He tells me, “There’s no reason to join the mighty fight.
The standards are too high, now you know that I am right.”
He says, “The Lord does not expect for you to always win.
There’s really nothing wrong if it’s just a little sin.
This is not bait, it’s just the truth. You’re nothing but a man.
You’ve got the time to fix it, you can later take a stand.”
But my Lord says, “This is my Word, it’s simple and it’s true.
Just read and learn and walk in faith, that’s all you have to do.
Get on your knees, you must confess you know that you were wrong.
Then you can take your place by me, that is where you belong.
“I’ve paid your price, I’ve bought your sins, I know not what they are.
Do you know I caught your every tear and put them in a jar?
So walk with me and keep the Devil trapped beneath your feet.
