Description

This revised 3rd edition of the Twin Cities District Dietetic Association (TCDDA) Manual of Pediatric Nutrition is the result of a cooperative effort on the part of the pediatric dietitians from the major children's hospitals, pediatric units, and public health agencies serving children in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. This joint effort was undertaken with the belief that a single manual, written by dietitians with experience and expertise in various areas of pediatrics, would promote continuity in the nutritional care of the pediatric population in the Twin Cities. Topics include General Nutrition, Nutrition Assessment, Consistency Modifications, Diabetes, Weight Management, Nutrition for Children with Special Health Care Needs, and many more.

This revised 3rd edition of the Twin Cities District Dietetic Association (TCDDA) Manual of Pediatric Nutrition is the result of a cooperative effort on the part of the pediatric dietitians from the major children s hospitals, pediatric units, and public health agencies serving children in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. This joint effort was undertaken with the belief that a single manual, written by dietitians with experience and expertise in various areas of pediatrics, would promote continuity in the nutritional care of the pediatric population in the Twin Cities.
The TCDDA Manual of Pediatric Nutrition is similar in format and philosophy to the TCDDA Manual of Clinical Nutrition, yet is devoted to pediatrics, compiling nutrition information from gestation through adolescence. Each section has been reviewed and/or revised and reflects current information and practice. The manual has been produced as a professional resource for dietitians, physicians, dietetic technicians, dietary managers, nurses, other health care professionals, and students or interns.
Although copyrighted, the educational materials are tools to be used for client education in conjunction with physician orders. The loose-leaf format facilitates duplication for this purpose.
The contributors hope that this manual will assist the professional in providing optimal nutritional care for individuals in ambulatory and institutional settings.
Additional Notes
References to the Recommended Dietary Allowances of the National Research Council refer to the Recommended Daily Dietary Allowances which are listed in the appendix of the manual, and published in:
Food and Nutrition Board. Recommended Dietary Allowances, 10th ed, Washington, DC; National Academy of Sciences, National Research Council, 1989.
The Recommended Dietary Allowances are used to evaluate the nutritional adequacy of diets. Calories, calories, Kcal, and kcal, used in this manual all refer to kilocalories.
