Description

This book offers remedies through products, spices and other flavouring agents we use in our kitchen everyday by focusing on its uses. Kitchen products often provide a safe, effective, and economical alternative to pharmaceuticals, and research validates this finding. This book discusses the causes and offers treatment for ailments such as Allergy, Alzheimer's, Anemia, Appendicitis, Arthritis, Asthma, Backache, Bronchitis, Burns, Cholera, Cold & Fever, Constipation, Cough, Dandruff, Depression, Diabetes, Hair loss, Headache, Heart problem, Insomnia, Jaundice, Kidney stones, Low & High Blood pressure, Migraine, Obesity, Rheumatism, Sexual impotence, Stomach ache, Stress, Whooping cough and for meeting emergency situations, which every family faces at some point of time. Many modern drugs are actually derived from fresh and dried edible parts of plants.
These are less likely than pharmaceuticals to cause side effects which, when they do occur, are generally far milder. While Western medicine seeks to isolate a single active ingredient, kitchen medicine relies on the synergistic action of their many constituents. These work physiologically to restore balance in the body rather than simply targeting a symptom. As a result, kitchen spices/products often tend to take effect more slowly than pharmaceuticals but have a greater impact on whole body wellness. The exposition of maladies and their remedies have been given in the ready reckoner style in suggesting medicines according to specific symptoms and have been given in an alphabetical order of ailments.

Publisher's Note
Home remedy treatment makes use of things bestowed on us by nature like fruits, vegetables and herbs. By observation, experience and trail, the ancient Indian people came to possess an intimate knowledge of the properties of our plant life. It is the practice of using one or more parts of a plant - its seeds, berries, roots, leaves, bark or flowers - to relieve physical or psychological problems, prevent disease or just improve overall health and vitality. Although many modern drugs are originally developed from plants, they are based on isolated chemicals, while plants as such comprise myriad active components, which work together to create their medicinal actions. Herbs have a long history of use and, when used properly are safe and powerful medicines.
Many of the home remedies are still in use in rural India. These form the basis of health care in greater part of India, especially rural India. The idea of this book is to reach natural home remedies to urban areas. Home remedies have the advantage that they help the body mechanisms to fight disease unlike modern medicine which, without waiting for the body defence to tackle the problem attack a specific part to bring about the cure but in the process weaken the body’s immune system.

Preface
This book grew out to meet the burgeoning need for more professional knowledge about nonmainstream approaches in physical and mental well being. This need to spread awareness has been fueled by the huge consumer-driven trend toward these treatments over the last 2-3 decades. 1. To offer a broader, deeper view of information from areas that, although outside mainstream practice, are having an increasing impact and demand.
2. To offer a sense of the level of scientific research and experience associated with complementary and supplementary fields in the area of total health.
3. To further explore and incorporate new treatment options. This text, while not exhaustive, provides a fair overview from the cutting edge of change in health care practices. The overall layout of this ‘Alternative Health Care Series’ demonstrates the body-mind-spirit premise that permeates diverse field of treatment. By its very nature, this type of book is more focused on divisions and separations--different topics, different sections, and different treatments. Each section begins with a description of the treatment, its safety and/or contraindications, scientific documentation of its efficacy, discussion of which ailment it is best used for, and other important references. Time has come for physicians, clinicians and therapists to have a look at how the marriage of conventional health care to complementary and alternative therapies can offer improved diagnosis than either can alone. By observation, experience and trail, the ancients came to posses an intimate knowledge of the properties of our plants life. We have been drawn to traditional methods of treatment for numbers of years.
