Description

The authoritarian mindset of the MAGA Movement threatens to tear down the democratic republic so carefully created by America's Founding Fathers in the 18th Century.

A “Manifesto” is a public declaration of policy, values, or goals. It clearly spells out intentions or motives, making the case for change. The MAGA Manifesto is a public declaration of Donald Trump’s goals, values, and intentions as defined by his campaign rallies, and political actions before, during, and since his term as President.

Manifesto is neither a positive nor negative term. Its policies, values, or goals determine its worth. Hitler’s Mein Kampf is an example of a manifesto that most historians have judged as evil. A historical evaluation of the MAGA Manifesto is still evolving.

Dedication
My two oldest brothers, Bob and Tom, have passed on into family history. Bob lived to 90; Tom was right behind him at 88. They were my kindred spirits in many ways, but especially in all things political.
We lived very different lives: Bob as a banker in Indianapolis; Tom as a retail business owner in our hometown of Ferdinand; and I practiced law in Fort Wayne. Despite these different career directions, all three of us shared common principles and values that we learned from our parents.
I still miss those long phone calls and in-person conversations in which we commiserated together on the plague of Trumpism and the MAGA value system. Our concerns involved such MAGA/Trump attitudes as authoritarianism, bullying, anger, intimidation, subterfuge, deception, egotism, narcissism, manipulation of vulnerable minds, bigotry, racial and social injustice, gender discrimination, political hypocrisy, degradation of traditional democratic values, disrespect for the law, and the growing polarization of America.
To the three of us, “liberal” and “progressive” were not dirty words. Rather, they were positive terms that meant caring about integrity, kindness, civility, non-violence, ecology, ethics, generosity, fairness, and courage. We considered it necessary and appropriate to help those who were dealt a more difficult, less privileged, or socially disadvantaged hand in life.
This book is dedicated to the memory of Bob and Tom. They were my role models, and they encouraged me to put my thoughts into writing. They even helped to edit some of my earlier books, keeping me focused in a true north direction.
Know that you are missed, but your influence lives on.

About the Author
An Overview
In the recorded history of the world, there has been a steady stream of “isms”, “movements”, and “manifestos”. Although they are all slightly different concepts, the terms can overlap and may sometimes be used interchangeably in the context of this writing.
For me, “isms” represent a philosophy or belief system. It may, or may not, include devoted actions on the part of the “believers”. For example, Trumpism is a political and cultural philosophy that advocates the political views of Donald Trump, such as extreme disparity in wealth, or authoritarianism, or suppression of individual freedoms, or white supremacy, or America First nationalism, or law and order at any price, or small government, or trickle-down economics, or minimal social safety nets, or xenophobia, or culture wars, or voter-suppression of non-whites.
Some of Trumpism’s adherents might not even consider civil disobedience in pursuance of his philosophy and goals. They simply agree with much of the Trump political or economic philosophy, and would willingly vote for him to be their choice of political leader.
The Trump “movement” is a groundswell of loyal supporters who are apparently willing to follow their leader to the gates of hell. They are the Freedom Caucus, the Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers, the white nationalists, the far-right evangelicals, all of the MAGA Republicans who are willing to blindly follow Trump’s irrational, sometimes illegal instructions, even to their own detriment.
This “base” can be found at Trump’s campaign rallies, or monitoring election sites while overtly armed, or storming the Capitol, weaponized and wearing MAGA hats. They can also be found in Congress, and in Federal prisons, paying the penalty for their blind and exuberant support of the former President in violation of criminal statutes.
A “manifesto” is a public declaration of policy or goals. It transparently spells out intentions or motives in advance, making the case for change. The MAGA Manifesto is a public declaration of Trump’s goals, values, and intentions. It is defined and defended in his campaign rallies, as well as actions taken while President of the United States. As such, it behooves all non-MAGA Americans to pay attention. If more Germans had heeded Hitler’s intentions in Mein Kampf, the Holocaust might have been avoided and WWII might not have happened.
The word “manifesto” is neither a positive nor a negative term. The policies, values, or goals determine its worth. A manifesto can involve such diverse subjects as politics, government, religion, science, business, labor, cultural values, or personal intentions.
Historically, some of the best-known manifestos include:
• The Continental Congress approved The Declaration of Independence in 1776, thereby publicly declaring a new, free and independent nation, free of the tyranny of England and King George III. For Americans, the Declaration has been a beacon and roadmap for freedom from tyranny for nearly two and a half centuries;
• Eleven years later, the United States Constitution proclaimed the foundation for a system of self-government that has endured through the ages. Along with the Bill of Rights, a new democratic form of republic was established that has served as a model for newly-formed democracies around the wo
