Air Force One is a plane unlike any other in the world. It serves as a functioning Oval Office and Situation Room for the president when he travels, and includes security features that make it nearly impossible for an enemy to attack it.

#6

On Christmas night, the president and his staff were gathered in the conference room exchanging stories about leaving their families so confused about their abrupt departure. They were briefed on the dangers of being in a war zone, and were told to take cover if they heard a loud whistling or whizzing sound.

#7

The president asked me about the press traveling with us, and whether news of the trip had leaked. I reassured him all was clear. We spent the next several hours talking, working, playing cards, and trying to sleep.

#8

The president and first lady visited with the troops, and despite the reporters desperate to file their stories, they were unable to do so. They finally announced that the president had visited with the troops.

On December 19, Trump announced that US troops would be withdrawn from Syria. This was met with immense pushback, including from some Republican lawmakers.

In May 1996, the Whitewater scandal threatened the Clinton presidency, and in August 1996, Mike Huckabee, a small-town pastor, became the Republican governor of Arkansas.

#2

I was 13 when I moved to the governor’s mansion in Little Rock. My dad was the pastor of a church there, and I had spent my childhood years in Texarkana with my brothers and friends.

#3

When Governor Tucker changed his mind and would not officially resign, my dad took over as governor. He called on friends of Tucker’s in the heavily Democratic state legislature to pressure him to resign.

#4

After a day of uncertainty and chaos, my dad and the rule of law had prevailed. Our family would be moving into the Governor’s Mansion in Little Rock after all.

#5

The house has just over thirty thousand square feet. The grounds are impeccable, and the trustees do an amazing job maintaining them. I found that the state troopers were a lot of fun to be around. They always made my family feel safe.

#6

The trustees were inmates in the state prison system, and most of them were serving life sentences. They consistently demonstrated good behavior and remorse for their crimes, and they were always happy to see me play basketball with them in the afternoons.
