For me, each day begins with a few moments of Jin Shin Jyutsu self-help, during which I have time to reflect on the blessings I have been given through this beautiful Art.
I am deeply indebted to Mary Burmeister, whose tireless efforts have brought Jin Shin Jyutsu into the light here in the United States and around the world.
Heiko, Birgitta, Matthias, Phyllis, Sara, Sue, Sonja, Janine, Jed, Digs and Mel, Robin, Stephanie, Linda, Kelly, Carlos, Micheline, Angela, Jennifer, Georgia, Patty, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Ulla and Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary...your interest and support from around the world has been invaluable.
And then there is the home front: Laurie, Nancy, Sharon, Liz, Kyle, Louis, Sue, Henri, Anne, Traci, Denise, Paulette, Eric, as well as the inmates in the “Unconditional Love Project” at Bay Correctional Facility and the staff and volunteers at Alaqua Animal Refuge. My eternal gratitude to Amiti, Finity, Scooter, Ingot, Sienna, Cali, Aleah, Daisy, Little P, Giacomo, Sersea, Giannina Mia and St. Tukaram the Gentle, Jr.. (to name a few) either in “fur” or in spirit.
Thank you to my clients and students, human and animal, for teaching me and growing with me all these years.
Iain, thank you for your unique and gifted vision in bringing my ideas to manifestation for the logo and the cover design. Kim Bremermann, your early assistance in the computer graphics started the book on its way. Lucas Guilherme, thank you for your computer patience and insight. Dr. Davis, thank you for listening and then telling me I had something to say.
And finally, Mom and Blaine, your support is a lesson that “unconditional love” is not reserved for the animal kingdom alone.

Jin Shin Jyutsu for Your Animal Companion is a publication authorized by Jin Shin Jyutsu, Inc.
Please visit my website WWW.JSJFORYOURANIMAL.COM where you can find information about classes and new developments as well as register for email updates.
This book was conceived as a study guide for students attending “JIN SHIN JYUTSU FOR YOUR ANIMAL COMPANION” classes. Over the last sixteen years its purpose has evolved. I have mailed over 10,000 books around the world and I am delighted that animals on almost every continent have felt the gentle healing this Art can bring. Now with the addition of the e-book, students of the Art will be able to have this knowledge in their pockets, along with illustrated flows and the modifications one must make in order to easily, safely and comfortably share the work with other species.
If you are using this workbook without having attended a class, I recommend reading the first 20 pages of the book carefully and then heeding the information given in the section “Sharing a Session with an Animal.” If you need further guidance, it is possible to schedule a phone or email consultation with me. (Contact info is in the back of the book.)
This book and the accompanying workshop is not meant as a substitute for the study of this Art as it applies to humans and taught by the Scottsdale office of Jin Shin Jyutsu, Inc. or as a substitute for regular medical attention by recognized veterinary professionals. If you find this work touches you and you want to pursue it more deeply, it is now possible through the C ertification Program for Jin Shin Jyutsu for Your Animal Companion.

Attendance at 3 5-day human JSJ classes ( a basic JSJ Certification of Attendance).
Introduction
This book is the natural outgrowth of the passion I feel for Jin Shin Jyutsu and the extraordinary joy animals have brought to my life. It is my desire to share the harmonizing I’ve experienced through the blending of these two worlds that prompts me to share my work and make it accessible to you now.
JIN SHIN JYUTSU is an Art of Living! Jin Shin Jyutsu was prevalent in Japan for hundreds of years, but had fallen into obscurity during the centuries prior to 1900. It was revived by the study and dedication of Master Jiro Murai in the early 1900s, after curing himself of a critical life illness using the principles of Jin Shin Jyutsu. The rest of his life was centered on the unearthing of this Art from many sources, including the Kojiki (The Record of Ancient Things). He passed on his learning to a young American of Japanese descent, Mary Burmeister. Mary began teaching and practicing the Art in the 1960s in the USA after many years under his tutelage. There are now thousands of people discovering optimum health and well being through the practice of Jin Shin Jyutsu.
Jin Shin Jyutsu is an Art that harmonizes the life energy by balancing body, mind and spirit. The underlying truth of this work is that harmonizing happens through the breath. Mary Burmeister teaches us that if you can breathe, you can heal. We are never in disharmony or affected by disease because of what we lack, but because of what we have not let go of. Underneath your “accumulations” of thoughts, toxins, food and genetics, there is a harmonious energetic being that is perpetually being fueled by a never-ending Universal Life Force. Since harmonizing occurs by releasing that which you no longer need, we think of the cycle of breath as starting with the exhale. In Jin Shin Jyutsu you visualize an energetic oval that begins with an exhale descending down the front of the body, and an inhale that flows effortlessly up the back of the body.
Exhale and let go down the front. Inhale and receive up the back.
You do not need to change or manipulate your breath, only become aware of this never-ending cycle. This is a good place to have your aware ness while working on yourself or sharing a session with another.
I have countless memories of a time in my life before Jin Shin
