Dear Seeker of God s Wisdom

Do you work in the world and struggle with the way things are done or not done? Could you use some help in your relationships? Do you have children to raise but aren t sure what to do, or is what you are doing not working? How many times a day are you uncertain about the decisions you make? Well, good news! God has all the answers you are seeking in the book of Proverbs.
Welcome and thank you for joining me in a practical and devotional journey through the book of Proverbs. My love for this book of the Bible began just days after becoming a Christian. I give thanks to God daily that my husband, Jim, and I were directed to a church filled with people who not only had Bibles, but were actually following along as the pastor in the pulpit was preaching.
After our first experience of such thrilling teaching, Jim and I went to the church s prayer room. The caring people there gave us a Bible reading schedule and advised us to start reading through the Bible which then meant we needed Bibles!
We charged immediately from the prayer room to the church bookstore where we purchased two matching Bibles, and the next morning we cracked open our brand-new Bibles and started reading at Genesis 1:1.
Not long after we started reading every morning in our Bibles, we were instructed while attending a Bible conference to read one chapter of Proverbs daily-the chapter that corresponded to the day of the month. For instance, if the day of the month was the third, we were to read Proverbs 3. The conference leader explained that reading from the book of Proverbs daily would give direction for our practical lives , just as reading in the Psalms daily would give direction for our devotional lives .
And it s true! The book of Proverbs is God s counsel from above for your conduct and mine here below. By reading one chapter of Proverbs every day, we receive inspired words from God on the ways of the world-and how to live a godly life in the midst of it. As Proverbs 1:3 states, one result of reading Proverbs is to receive instruction in wise behavior. Knowing how desperately I needed this kind of help, I started that very day reading one chapter of Proverbs daily.
As I faithfully continued my repeated journeys through the book of Proverbs, I learned a practical reality: Proverbs is loaded with down-to-earth sayings of truth that are meant to be lingered over-to be pondered and savored. They are meant to cause you and me to think through their advice and implications for the challenges of busy, intense, everyday life. It wasn t long before I began noting and marking topics in the margins of my Bible-topics and verses that were just for women like you and me.
After 40-plus years of reading Proverbs most every day, I am seeking in this book to share heart-to-heart with you as a woman. I am drawing from my personal markings, study notes, and applications from the 31 chapters of Proverbs. I ve handpicked a selected number of topics that I have benefited from as a woman, wife, mother, and daughter. And it was pure joy to write an opening prayer for each chapter. These prayers were written from my heart and are intended to be prayed by you from your heart to our heavenly Father as you approach His wisdom each day.
Dear reading friend, I am praying that you will fall in love with the book of Proverbs! That you will embrace its instructions. That you will grow in God s wisdom and be blessed as you use and apply it in your daily living. That each day you will want to learn more from this refreshing, practical, and powerful book in the Bible.
Listen to me,
for blessed are they who keep my ways.
Heed instruction and be wise,
and do not neglect it.
Blessed is the man who listens to me,
watching daily at my gates,
waiting at my doorposts.
For he who finds me finds life
and obtains favor from the L ORD .
(Proverbs 8:32-35)
In His everlasting love,

PROVERBS 1:2-3

A Prayer to Pray-
Father of all wisdom and the all-wise One, my heart gives thanks to You for caring for your creation enough to make sure we are fully equipped to handle the days of our lives. As I think about this day, O Lord, and all that is planned, all that is necessary-and all the temptations and interruptions and crises that may come my way, I ask You afresh, Lord, give me wisdom! I need it to manage this day in a way that pleases You and bears the mark of Your wisdom on it. Amen.
I still adore the movie The Sound of Music -and so do my two daughters. We have great memories of watching it together and singing along with its many unforgettable tunes. Talk about a wonderful classic! Do you remember Maria teaching the von Trapp children the basics of music by asking them to st
