David Briscoe, Co-Founder of Macrobiotics America and Macrobiotics Global, co-author of A Personal Peace, macrobiotic counselor and lecturer writes,

“Who would believe that healthy food could be sexy, fun, and delicious? Well, in this book Loretta shows us all of this and more.”

Warren Kramer, a Kushi Institute and Strengthening Health Institute lecturer and internationally recognized macrobiotic counselor states,

“A healthy person is someone who has a good appetite, a hunger for adventure, learning, sex, and at the foundation, an appetite for simple food and ingredients prepared in the most delicious way possible. Loretta shows how delicious simple food is the key to La Dolce Sexy Vita!”

Christina Pirello, Emmy award winning host of Christina Cooks and best-selling author quotes:

“In the world of healthy eating, there has always been a lack of, well…sex appeal. Loretta has changed all of that in this lovely, yummy and sensual approach to cooking healthy foods and eating well. In a society that grows increasingly less personal, this very personal book casts a fresh eye on whole foods and seasonal cooking. You may never think of dinner in the same way again.”

I thank God for providing me with loving and devoted family, friends, and teachers.

To my cherished mom, godmother, Aunt Mary, and Grandmother Josephine who provided me with a deep appreciation and passion for eating nourishing foods, creating meals prepared with their hearts, their smiles and their songs. I salute and thank you.

To my dear friend, Fran Verma, who inspired me to begin this project and encouraged me to persevere to my final page. Thank you for your caring and unwavering support.

To my precious friends Maria Fama, Rita Tamburrino and Erica Bigelow who gave me encouragement and constructive criticism. I appreciate how you pulled out the best in me, challenging me every step of the way.

To my loving friends Briel Driscoll, Rita Tamburrino and Tom Blumenthal who helped type and format my manuscript. You did a great job!

To my cousin and dear friend, James Pingelli, who helped me edit. Your ongoing love and support helped me feel my book’s heartbeat.

To an outstanding florist, John Vacca, owner of The Petal Pusher of South Philadelphia, who helped me select the floral arrangements according to the season. Your love of beauty added that dimension to my book.

To Christina Pirello who pulled me into her brightness. Clearly her suggestions for adding headers to my recipes increased the positives of my book. I, too, appreciate the wonderful critique she wrote of my book.

To Christina Pirello and Susan Waxman who each wrote a foreword to my book. You made me feel very special. Thank you.

To my dear friends and mentors, Denny Waxman and Susan Waxman, who expanded my knowledge about the wonder of food and its balancing effect upon the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Thank you for all of the opportunities you have afforded me.

Special thanks to my mentors, Warren Kramer, a Kushi Institute and Strengthening Health Institute lecturer and cooking instructor, and an internationally recognized macrobiotic counselor, and David Briscoe, a macrobiotic teacher and counselor, a regular columnist of Macrobiotics Today, and a co-founder of Macrobiotics America and More Plants on Your Plate. Your emotional support and comments are so much appreciated.

To all of my friends of the Strengthening Health Institute, I appreciate your friendships over the years. I feel blessed to be part of your lives.

Introduction

Eating healthy always enables me to create a physical, mental, and spiritual balance of optimal health and happiness. With this increased vitality, mental clarity, and inner peace, I discovered that choosing this path was one of the highest forms of self- love. That’s when I decided, why not share this path with lovers everywhere, because I believe the key to loving someone else begins with self- love.
I then began to investigate the correlation between eating healthy food which is dairy free, meat free, sugar free, and chemically free, and sexual desire and performance. My research led me to an online excerpt called Sexual Vitality from the book, “The Gentle Art of Making Love” by Michio Kushi with Edward Esko and Wendy Esko.
Macrobiotic educator Michio Kushi counseled thousands of people in the nutrition and energy of foods and he concluded that diet had a profound influence on sexuality. In this article, Michio Kushi reveals how female sexuality depends upon the uninterrupted flow of upward (yin) energy. Orgasms that begin in the vagina and clitoris radiate energy up through the pelvis to the upward energy centers. He claims animal food when eaten in excess produces a downward effect of energy, therefore decreasing the amount of intensity of emotion the woman feels during the sexual act. Energetically, animal foods are constricting the energy centers. According to Michio Kushi, this is a primary cause for women not achieving orgasm during intercourse.
What about (yin) more expansive foods like sugar, dairy food, and tropical fruits? They, too, can decrease sexual vitality and sometimes lead to impotence.
Michio Kushi recommends eating complex carbohydrates like whole grains, beans and fresh vegetables. The reason is that they are slowly broken down in the body providing a slow and steady supply of energy. This contributes to both male and female sexual vitality.
As you can see, eating healthy becomes your passport to a passionate, sensual, and sexual you.
Now the fun begins. As you travel through the pages of my book you will find an invitation to twelve months of menus, designed for two, filled with delicious recipes, love quotes, kitchen and bedroom poetry, flower arrangement recommendations, wine and food pairings, beer and food pairings and an accompaniment of a comprehensive glossary and index.
What is special about the recipes is that they are headed with a combination of revelations of the food’s nutrition, energy, folklore, history and aphrodisiac effects and stimulating romantic persuasions.
Are you thinking what I am thinking? What a rewarding experience it is to eat a carefully prepared meal of whole foods with your lover. It is a creative way to share intimate love and romance. Repeat after me, “It is your diet that holds the key to a fulfilling sex life.”
As celebrating lovers, let the magic begin!

When Loretta approached me about her book, I was skeptical. Of course I know how wonderful macrobiotic foods can be. Of course I know how strong and vital living a macrobiotic lifestyle makes us feel. I also know that when you say the word ‘macrobiotic’ to people, the last thing they think of is romance. You think of brown rice and sea vegetables, miso soup and steamed kale, but romance?
You can imagine I was intrigued.
Food is fundamental to us as humans. It creates the foundation upon which we build our health and wellness. When we feel well, we look well; we have a glow about us that tells the world we are brimming with vitality. Is there anything sexier?
We all want to be better people. We want to enjoy better health. We want to live in a world where compassion rules the day and we care for all living things, including this fragile planet we call home. We want food that is delicious, but makes a lighter footprint on the world.
And we all want to be and remain attractive for as long as we can. We want to know that each and every day: we are putting our best face forward.
This lovely book takes macrobiotics head on into the world of sensuality and romance wi
