Somewhere over the passing years and changing culture, women have lost their way. This book is written to lead them back home. Regardless of how you began your marriage or how dark and lonely the path that has brought you to where you are now, I want you to know that it is possible today to have a marriage so good and so fulfilling that it can only be explained as a miracle. It took four years, thousands of hours, many tears, revisions and distractions, but I finally finished my book. I had no idea God had so much to say to us ladies until I began going through God's Word verse by verse, writing the different sections of Created to Be His Help Meet. Many times as I read a passage, I would say to my husband, "I'm not going to include those verses in my book because if I do the ladies (of any religious group you can think of including my own) will not like my book or promote it." My dear husband would say to me, "If God thought it was important enough to inspire it as part of his Word to us, then you should include it." And so I would cringe and add one more controversial subject after another. So in obedience with Titus 2, where God commands the aged women to teach the younger women, I have obeyed and given you the very best I can do - 27 chapters, 296 pages, including letters from my readers, recounting counseling sessions, wisdom gleaned from my daughters, my own very personal stories, and, of course, the Word of God. It includes subjects as varied as planning meals to answering extremely intimate questions.

There is not a day of my life that I do not wake up and thank God he gave me the wonderful task of being a help meet to Michael Pearl. I know God has used that man to instruct me, mold me, and love me into being the woman I am today. This book is as much his product as it is mine. He encouraged my sloppy beginnings, rewrote my half-hearted second tries, cheered me on when I grew weary and wanted to quit, and then gave me weeks free from my responsibilities as his help meet so that I might finish the task.
My son-in-law Gabriel Anast and my daughter Rebekah Joy Anast gave me the idea and much of the information for the section on the three types of men, which made understanding men so much simpler. Beka also provided examples, ideas, and Scripture included in the other parts of this book. I consider her co-author of this book. It is her voice that you will hear on the audio reading of Created to Be His Help Meet .
The daily letters I have received during the last several years have instructed me and caused me to seek the face of God for answers. By seeing the heartache and/or the triumph of thousands of women, I have been able to identify patterns of success and patterns of destruction. Also, hearing from so many hurting women has given me growing urgency to share what God has taught me. A big “thank you” to all of you whose letters I have used in writing this book.

Introduction

T his book has been ten years in the making—four years in its actual writing. It is at my encouragement that my wife wrote it. Many times as she was going verse-by-verse through the Scripture, she would say to me, “I’m not going to include these verses because if I do, the ladies of ______ (some religious group) will not like or promote my book.” I would tell her, “If God thought it was important enough to put it in his Word, then you shouldn’t exclude it.” So she would cringe and add one more controversial subject after another. I am proud of the great job she has done.
I have long wanted other women to have the benefit of her profound wisdom and grace, and I want other men to experience the blessing of being married to a heavenly-gift bride. Debi is my sweetheart and best buddy, my best friend and my only confidante. She is not by nature a passive, “lie down and roll over” woman. In our early marriage, she challenged my authority and occasionally stood against me—sometimes with reasonable provocation—and sometimes because she was just stubborn and self-willed. Admittedly, we didn’t start out with a perfect marriage; we grew into it together. Debi has strong opinions that she solidly believes in, but she has learned to be her husband’s helper in every way that a man needs a woman’s support.
I have never met or read another author who I thought was more qualified by life and experience to write a book to women on how to become the help meet God intended. She exemplifies all that she has written. Every word of this book comes with my blessing and wholehearted agreement.

10th Anniversary

My husband had a major heart attack! While being transported to the hospital, and in terrible pain, he grabbed my hand and made me promise I would write the book for ladies that I had been planning to write for over 20 years. I had several boxes of papers that dated back to my young teens. They included notes gleaned from sermons by preacher long since dead, articles from books and newspapers, and pages ripped out from several decades of old Sunday School journals and magazines plus notes gleaned from many unsuspecting ladies. Anything concerning marriage that found a place in my heart went into these old boxes.
When Mike came home from the hospital, he set up an office for me. He patiently taught me how to cut and paste, scan and edit, and several other required computer applications until he was sure I could do my job. Very early every morning for three weeks, he walked me to my new office, and said he would be back with my lunch and supper. I went through the old box of wisdom; typed in the things I found, looked up the Scriptures, and wrote what was on my heart. Created to Be His Help Meet came together quickly. After I was finished, he worked several weeks editing my work. Right after Christmas of 2004, the first books rolled off the presses.
It is 2014, the 10th anniversary of the first printing. I am glad to report Mike has not only survived, he has thrived. Created to Be His Help Meet has thrived as well. It is available in 12 languages, with contracts from publishers and distributors all over the world. Today more Created books are sold in China than here in the USA. Worldwide over 500,000 books have been sold!
Beautiful black women in Africa, tiny brown ladies on exotic islands, red headed Irish ladies in Europe, and women from the Middle East are all reading and learning how to honor their husbands. They are opening their Bibles to see if the things I wrote are true. Many are falling in love for the first time in their married lives as they lay down anger and bitterness, and learn to be cherished. Some are coming to know the Savior, and many of the ladies write that their husbands are willing to consider God due to the amazing changes in their lives. We have seen good fruit; an abundance of good fruit.
I now have other boxes stuffed with ideas, cards, and letters I received these last few years from women who read the book and expressed concerns they feel I failed to address. Two chapters and other revisions have been added to address these issues. My God bless you as you seek Him. He has surely blessed me and mine.
