Welcome to a new edition

With pride I present my second book in its originally intended design, subscribing to the look and feel my designer and I had carefully constructed to conform to good Feng Shui principles. I hope you'll enjoy its new package.
In 1998, I wrote my first book Wind and Water: Your Personal Feng Shui Journey. The response was overwhelming. I heard from people all over the world about how the book impacted them. Its format was simple. A reader could integrate the book page by page, or issue by issue. Or they could begin on page one and read straight through to the end. However they did it, people were touched.
I continued my Feng Shui work with clients and had the privilege of being involved very intimately with many open and heart-centered individuals. As a result I was inspired to write again. This time my intention was to provide real-life case studies of how people were living in their spaces. The principles from the first book are now applied in practical ways in this second publication Living Feng Shui: Personal Stories.
The names have been changed in each of the stories. But the situations and results are true. Where relevant to the story, I have included my working drawings. These are not intended to be architectural renderings or blueprints, but simply illustrations to enhance the reader's understanding.
This book, along with my first one, would never have seen the light of day had it not been for Professor Thomas Lin Yun. A Buddhist teacher, he beautifully blends our Western mind-set with the traditional principles of Feng Shui. Only through his efforts, his insights, and his wisdom are we able to take advantage of this information and put it to work. I invite you to ponder the calligraphy blessings he sent me that appear at the front of this book.
My subsequent studies with master teacher Roger Green have succeeded in deepening my understanding of the power and subtleties of Feng Shui.
I owe a huge thank you to my designer Dorie McClelland who infused the book with her magic—again. She so remarkably orchestrates the energy around these stories that we end up with a final product of exquisite design and beauty. But then, I expect nothing less from her.
My husband Tom unselfishly lent his time and energy to this project. Uncomplainingly he read and re-read the stories, lovingly offering his opinions and suggestions. A lifetime of gratitude is due him for being my support, my friend, and for living Feng Shui with me.
I am blessed to have Feng Shui in my life, not only for what it has done for me but for the countless opportunities to work so personally and deeply with others, to witness the changes they bravely put into place, and to celebrate with them in the end. Herein are a few of these poignant personal journeys.

Foreword

Professor Thomas Lin Yun
The Chinese have an ancient proverb: "It is better to be happy (or to share the happiness) with a crowd than to be happy alone." After I read Carole Hyder's new book, I made some reflections. Even though she is already a scholarly expert, when she was attending my workshops she was totally devoted to her study of Feng Shui so that "the indigo ink is bluer than the indigo plant from which it comes." To put it simply, when Carole studied Feng Shui, she did it wholeheartedly and with diligence. After she acquired the necessary skills, she was then able to help those people in society who need Feng Shui adjustment. Finally, she carefully made records of case studies and made an accurate and honest account of the truth before and after Black Sect Tantric Buddhist Feng Shui adjustment.
Therefore, Carole would have an in-depth understanding of the power of Black Sect Tantric Buddhist Feng Shui perspective. Her abilities and her success allowed her to have an indescribable happiness and comfort that stemmed from deep in her heart. Carole has turned this emotional happiness into words and wrote this new book. Once published, this will allow her clients, beneficiaries, relatives and friends, and those readers who don't understand Feng Shui to acquire an immediate resonance. This is why I said that Carole exalted the spirit and love of "it is better to be happy with a crowd than to be happy alone." She had written this great book that is very clear and easy to understand.
There are many positive aspects to this book. For example, every chapter uses actual case studies as its content. Every case study is made clearer with illustrations of the floor plan. The comparative studies before and after Feng Shui adjustments are also another specialty of this book. However, in order to protect the privacy of the actual clients, their names and identities had to be changed. If it was possible to reveal the actual year, month, date and hour, and the actual area where these houses, apartments and office buildings were located, then it would enable the reader to understand even more clearly that this is absolute truth being chronicled. Even though this book does not introduce Feng Shui through theory, logic, or historical lineage, these actual Feng Shui case studies allow the reader to cross all barriers and immediately immerse in the phenomenon of Feng Shui. This kind of experience is much more advanced and direct than traditional teaching methods used in classrooms.
The narration of a good book does not rely on clear penmanship or rich content. There should also be good writing techniques, careful arrangement, love and inspiration in order to present a good and solid publication. Some books have good wording, but the content is too profound to be understood. Some books have smooth penmanship, but the content is rather empty. Some books have good wording and good content, but the effect of the writing skills is lost due to not understanding the readers' needs. Carole's new book is carefully designed so that is has all of the above stated advantages and none of the above stated shortcomings. This is another special value that sets it apart from other publications. I have strong faith that the readers will share my same sentiment.
This is a proverb that means that the student is so diligent that his achievements surpass that of his teacher. This is a humble expression often used by teachers to show their humility.

Calligraphy

The greatest gift a student can receive from their teacher is their blessing for the work that they're doing following in the footsteps of the teacher. As a student of Professor Thomas Lin Yun, I requested his blessing of this book of stories. In typical fashion, he generously forwarded to me the following calligraphy pieces, done by his own hand. It is with great honor that I share these with the reader so everyone can benefit from his benedictions.
Professor Thomas Lin Yun created six pieces of calligraphy after reading the manuscript for this book. Following are the texts that came with each, referred to by their number. The words are Professor Lin Yun's, translated from Chinese by Mary R. Hsu.
