Insights from Chapter 2

#1

The Gormans were entranced by the beauty of the ranch, and they bought it for a fair price in 1994. They couldn’t believe their luck. However, they soon learned that the ranch was bordered on the north by a two-hundred-foot ridge made of red rocks and the mud derived from centuries of weathering.

#2

The Gorman family, who moved to northeast Utah, was extremely intelligent and hardworking. They took after their parents, who were extremely intelligent and hardworking. The ranch they bought was located in the middle of the Uinta Basin, halfway between Roosevelt and Vernal in the badlands of Utah. It has been reported that thousands of UFO sightings have been made in the area.

#3

Hicks’s database of UFO sightings in the Uinta Basin is extremely skewed toward close encounters because he was too busy to investigate anything else. However, he has collected hundreds of reports of UFOs over the years.

#4

Hicks believes that the UFOs might be conducting some sort of psychological study on humans. He notes that the basin is biologically rich and diverse, and that local residents have reported sightings of creatures that resemble the legendary Sasquatch.
Insights from Chapter 3

#1

The Uinta Basin has always been more than a little strange. It was inhabited by Native American tribes for more than 12,000 years, and was then settled by Mormon explorers in the 1860s. In the 1880s, miners prospecting on tribal lands discovered rich deposits of a black hydrocarbon that would become essential in the manufacture of paints, varnish, lacquer, and insulating materials.

#2

The legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers, a group of black cavalry soldiers who served in the Indian Wars, is well documented. They were nicknamed Buffalo Soldiers because of their prowess in battle and their resemblance to the revered buffalo.

#3

The Freemasons are a secret society that has been accused of being involved in all sorts of conspiracies and mystical arts. The Buffalo Soldiers, a group of black soldiers stationed at a remote outpost in Utah in the late 1800s, became Freemasons because of an emancipated slave named Prince Hall.
