Description

In this current Aquarian Age with its new energies Chartres Cathedral seems to have gained recognition amongst mystics, geomancers and dowsers, and alternative spirituality folk in general, as having some special meaning. It ha attracted numerous visitors from many countries who have come to walk its Labyrinth, examine the Zodiac Window, and hold dowsing, prayer or meditation sessions so as to 'tune-in' to its hidden meaning. Sometimes to the consternation of the Cathedral's own congregation, or even its 'official' guides. As the book explores the meaning of the Chartres Zodiac, it first starts by exploring the Celestial Zodiac and Precession. And also other pertinent astronomical facts. It then explores landscape zodiacs in general, including those found in Britain. In looking at Chartres we first examine its history, going back to the time when it was a Celtic Temple, and the later when the under-crypt was used as a Mithraic Temple by officers in the Roman Army. The book then explains how the author discovered twelve line radiating out from the centre of the Cathedral, and thence the realisation that we might have a giant zodiac. The identification of a number of towns and cities of equidistant radius around the Cathedral confirmed the Zodiac hypothesis. Important places such as Plymouth, Gloucester, Norwich, Leiden, Strasbourg and Montreaux. Hat was remarkable was that one line passed through Paris, and then when extended beyond the Zodiac circumference passed through Berlin. Another Line reached Vienna and Bratislava. Another reached Barcelona. Another reached Madrid. The book then explores the geography, history and culture of each zodiac segment to see if there is anything that relates to the nature of the zodiac sign of that segment. The book finally points the way to the future, leaving future researchers to continue the exploration of what this remarkable building means to us.

CHAPTER 1 - INTRODUCTION
1964 saw the beginning of a New Age , an Age that related to the Precession of the Equinoxes. The Age of Aquarius started to come in as Pisces started to lose its power. By the year 2000 or 2001 Pisces would be dead and Aquarius in full power, at the end of a 36 year period. Most of the political and economic structures in the Western World were built up using Piscean energies. Structures that would soon prove to be inadequate for the New Age , which demanded new ways of thinking, and experiments in new societal norms. This new energy entering the Planet would make itself felt most strongly amongst the young, who had not yet been indoctrinated and ossified into old ways of thinking. Witness the anti-nuclear and anti-Vietnam War protests of the 1970 s, and the anti-Capitalist protests at the beginning of the 21 st . Century.
So, in the 1960 s and 1970 s we saw an influx of Eastern philosophies into the West, together with alternative therapies and medicines, and a new open minded and accepting attitude towards ethnic and religious differences. And also a resurgent interest in our own pre-Christian pagan religions, ancient pagan sites such as Stonehenge, Carnac and Newgrange, and a belief in natural Earth or telluric energies. This would become coupled with an understanding that most of the Medieval churches and Cathedrals in Northern Europe had been built upon the sites of earlier pagan temples and shrines. And also that there might be something special about the Earth energies in these locations. In other words, the energies at these sites had a specific quality and type of power that was inherent to the site long before our ancient ancestors adopted such as sacred or healing sites. To understand why this should be the case the reader is directed to my book THE PLANETARY MATRIX , published as an e-book with all e-book libraries, including Amazon. This book defines THE primary ley-line network of the whole Planet. A network of telluric energy lines dependant upon psychic crystals embedded within the etheric body of Gaia, or Mother Earth. Five crystals representing the five Platonic Solids which are the visual forms of Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. We will refer back to this later.
During the Post WWII New Age Movement, particularly amongst geomancers and dowsers, it started to become apparent that Chartres Cathedral in Northern France to the South-West of Paris, was somehow special, in a very specific way that most other cathedrals were not. It seemed to have some sort of specific role in France and Western Europe. In 1966, at the beginning of the Aquarian Age, a book was published in France under the title of THE MYSTERIES OF CHARTRES CATHEDRAL . The author was Louis Charpentier , who had made a thorough study of the Cathedral, its history, geographical location and measurements and proportions of its structure. Charpentier claimed that the Knights Templar had a direct influence upon the design of the Cathedral. His measurements and calculations showed that the building incorporated various aspects of sacred geometry, including the golden rectangle. He also showed that it was not orientated towards the East like most Medieval churches and cathedrals, but was orientated upon a line of strong telluric energy. In this book I have taken this further to show how the Cathedral is the centre of a giant Zodiac that covers much of Western Europe.
To be able to calculate the line runs for both the PLANETARY MATRIX and the Chartres Zodiac I used a GIS program called VERSAMAP. As most flat maps have a distorted scale as one is asking a flat map to represent the curved surface of the Earth, a straight line between points A and B on the surface of the Earth would show up as a curved line on a flat map. VERSAMAP enables one to type into a computer the beginning and end co-ordinates of a line to be plotted and the program will produce a schedule of a number of intermediate co-ordinates which can then be used to plot our line on a map. So initially the line would appear on the map as a series of ten or fifteen or so co-ordinate dots, which can be joined up as a curve. The program can also show the line plot on a plan on the computer monitor, but for most folk with printers that will only print onto A.4. sheets this might be too small.
CHAPTER 2 - A BACKGOUND SURVEY OF ASTRONOMY AND ASTROLOGY
Before we take a look at various landscape zodiacs, particularly in the British Isles, or indeed whether Chartres itself is the centre of a giant zodiac, it is first necessary to make an overview of certain astronomical and astrological principles pertaining to the Zodiac and Precession.
The Earth s axis is tilted 23 to the plane of the Earth s orbit around the Sun. This is known as the Obliquity of the Ecliptic . Precession of the Earth is due to the magnetic attraction of the sun and moon on the Earth s equator. Together with the centrifugal force of the Earth s spin these factors distort the Earth so that it is not a true sphere. They also set up a wobble in that spin so that whilst the Earth spins on its axis once every twenty-four hours, that axis itself describes a circle of 47 in diameter during a period of 25,800 years. This period is known as the Platonic Year . The position of the celestial pole therefore appears to alter, which in turn affects the position of the celestial equator and equinoxes. Whereas the pole star in 2010 is Polaris, to the ancient Egyptians in 3,000BC it was Alpha Draconis. In 2600 it will be Thuban whereas in 12,000AD the position of what ought then to be the celestial pole star will be near the blue star Vega. It should be noted that the actual declination of Polaris today is +89 15 51 not +90 0 0 . Whereas to an observer at the North Pole Polaris would appear to be 90 above the horizon to an observer in London, which is at Latitude 51 , it would appear to be 51 (approximately) above the horizon.
Through Precession the Earth s axis will appear to move against a background of stars, many of which have been grouped by Man as constellations, to which have been assigned various mythical figures, such as Aries the ram and Pisces the fishes. Of all the numerous constellations, particularly in the northern celestial hemisphere, twelve were designated by the Ancients to act as markers in the heavens, segments of the Universe where there was a specific energy pattern. It must be emphasised that it was not the actual constellations themselves whence this cyclically changing energy signature came. Each constellation just marked a position in the heavens whence different types of background Cosmic energy pulsed to our part of the Universe. Some of the constellations are actually only an apparent grouping of stars as seen by Man, as an angular spacing from the Earth, as illustrated by Figure No. 1. In many constellations some of the stars will have nothing to do with others in the so-called constellation and could be so far away from them that they are actually nearer stars in other constellations. In other words, some the constellations we think we see from Earth don t actually exist. The stars exist, but are probably not related to each other. But some do. The Pleiades (the Seven Sisters) is a self-contained group of about 13 stars. The Precessional movement of the Earth s axis against the background of stars is anti-clockwise (Aries-Pisces-Aquarius). The Earth and all the planets revolve around the Sun in an anti-clockwise direction. Although the Sun s position is fixed in relation to the background of stars (relatively) as the Earth revolves around the Sun it appears to us that the Sun itself moves against the background of stars in a clock-wise direction (Aquarius-Pisces-Aries), which is the opposite to that of Precession. In otherwords, clock-wise as seen by someone standing in the centre of the Earth looking up into the Northern celestial s
