Preface
All prizes and recognitions go to the winners, whether in the field of sports, business, industry, bollywood or commerce. The print media and TV channels make a beeline, for the students, who top in the University or Board Examination. Indeed the highest paying jobs, like the IAS, IPS or IFS and other services or admission to the ace institutions, again depend upon the marks obtained. In other words, excellence in marks means excellence not only in the jobs, but also the amount of money earned. Best grades and marks mean the best and highest paying job.
The secret of excellence, lies in the amount of perspiration, we put in any undertaking, and how much pain we undertake, to do the most common tasks, and works in an uncommon way. We should guard ourselves against being merely good. Our aim should be, to make our good better and our better, our best.
This is possible only, if we hold ourselves responsible for a much higher standard than what is expected, not only by us, but also by others. Your best should be not only good enough for today, but also for tomorrow and day after tomorrow and till the end of your life.
Never let go and lower your standards and expectations from yourself. Consider yourself, as a one man company, of which you are the chairman, as well as a worker, apart from being a sole stake holder. Only this way, you can become a celebrity in your chosen field.
The road to the top is both narrow and arduous. Success is never achieved on easier term. Unless you have an absolute sense of mission, you can never be outstanding. Nobody will remember after sometimes, as to how quickly you performed a task. But everybody will remember how well or ill you did it. Doing badly in your profession, or a task or other endeavour is to ensure your failure. No failures are ever remembered. Nobody remembers, as to which horse or which individual came 2 nd or 3 rd , in any examination or a competition.
Only those who do well in the glamour world of Bollywood reach the top and earn astronomical incomes. Nobody becomes an instant success, as a lot of grind and hardships are part of the journey on the road to success.
The road to success has obstacles paved almost at every step. Constraints, difficulties, limitations and frustrations are the necessary ingredients, which prepare you for attaining whatever you want in your life. Aim to make your life a masterpiece, like the one painted by the great artists or sculptors, like Michael Angelo or Leonardo de Vinci. It is upto each one of us to choose between Obscurity and Fame. When we are working, why not we work our best and leave a mark? When we are living, why not live in way, which would be a model for others?
After all, whether we like it or not, it is the same amount of effort and time required for doing a job well or ill. If you would not be better tomorrow than what you were today, then ask yourself, as to what for, you need tomorrow. There is no rewind or fast forward button, in life.
This book is not a book of stories or a collection of biographies. It is a distillation of my own experience and learning. It is aimed at ensuring higher levels of productivity and performance in all aspects of your life, like motivation, self- esteem and self-confidence. It will help you in accelerating the achievement of your goals and make your dreams a reality. Reading the book is not enough. Each reader is invited to test the suggestions given with the touchstone of his personal experience.
Reading again would not do, unless you reinforce your motivation for transforming your approach to your life and work. You are, under no obligation, to continue, working the same way, as in the past, if the past approach has not yielded, the desired results. If there is no path, to the goal, you want to reach, then you have to make your own way.
The book has small chapters, running into not more than 2 to three pages, so that any reader can pick it and read the same in whatever time, may be five to 7 minutes become available. Creativity and advancement invariably begin with an inspiration, thinking or a scheme. But, for many, the course ends there, because they have no plan as to what to do with it. It is important to turn your ideas into an exciting activity, for giving you the edge. The objective of the edge is that you can become a leader in innovation and creativity, in your chosen field of life. It is imperative to sustain brilliant ideas flow and reinforce a solid creative foundation in your life. This approach will facilitate innovation, and make problem-solving an easy process.
You need to appreciate and comprehend what you are obsessive or fanatical about in life. For accomplishing this, a clear approach or mission declaration or what truly drives and inspires will help you to concentrate on your creative gifts. A well calculated, planned foundation will serve as a beacon on the path you want to tread. One thing you must learn is to decide when to say yes or no to anything, depending upon, whether it will help your progression to your goal.
This course is crucial for inspired, artistic and inventive people, when they find themselves inundated by plentiful things to do and huge demands on their time.
Encapsulate Your Ideas
A number of times, both during the day and night, including at midnight, a number of great ideas occur to all of us. Quite often, later on, we cannot recall those ideas or remember when it will be useful or possible to put them into action. It can be as small a thing as depositing a cheque in the bank or making your payment for the goods you might have purchased, or sending insurance premium in time. It is important to create a system for translating your ideas into accomplishments. No hard and fast method can be laid down. I personally note down such things in a diary. If a diary is not handy, then I scribble the same down on a rough pad. I also use a mini tape recorder, for recording my ideas when going out of the house or when some idea occurs at midnight. Each morning I collect all these ideas from my diary and other sources and start taking action. We have shifted to Dwarka, a suburb of New Delhi. I still have to go to central Delhi for some work or the other. I note down as to what is required to be done, in that direction, so that all commitments are honoured. For instance, a few days back, a friend invited me for a lunch. It was followed by a TV recording which I had scheduled immediately after the lunch. I further ended it by addressing a social gathering. It was all possible, because I had planned my day and what was to be done even during the journey of 45 minutes by car from my house to Connaught Place.
You can adopt any system that works best for you. Do not hesitate to be unusual and original in your approach. Experience shows that any time wonderful ideas, random thoughts, mental observations, worries, fears, and reminders keep encumbering us all the time. By keeping a diary or tape recorder, you can transfer them to the same and keep your mind decluttered. Whatever is of general interest can be put in you
