“This chapter is a reminder that while circumstances can shape us, they do not define us.
‘Self care is not Selfish’ demonstrates how learning to love ourselves, and care for ourselves, is a journey that takes time but also great strength. Kathyrn’s story is not one to shy away from the harsh lessons learnt but more importantly than that - it is a beacon that there is hope for change, growth and a different life for anyone out there who might be stuck in the story of their upbringing.”

“This chapter helps by giving you tools and ideas to decipher self love in your life. I hope that you get what you need out of reading this as I did and it helps you to be a better you for you. I agree that self love changes in different seasons we go through in our lives. I enjoyed breaking down the years as suggested and reflecting on where I was personally at that time. In this fast paced world where everything is at our fingertips, it is truly important to self reflect and find what self love means to us individually. Are we people pleasers? Are we thriving, surviving, drowning? Only you can know.”
Anna Dunek

“Self-love means having a high regard for your well-being and happiness, and Self-love means taking care of your needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others.” Sounds simple, right? I’m a mom of seven and a Registered Nurse, two callings that revolve around caring for and serving other people. I’m surrounded by people, especially women, who are in the same sphere. It can be so easy to give all our energy away as we serve those around us. By walking through the fire, I’ve learned that I do not have the ability to care for others properly if I do not first prioritize myself. Unfortunately, it’s sometimes easier said than done. I love the emphasis Rhonda puts on being intentional about our own self-love and self-care. Life gets so busy and just as I need to protect my time with the people I love (my husband, children, friends), I need to be intentional about doing things that are going to feed my soul and keep me feeling energized, or at least able to tackle another day. For me, that often consists of going to the gym, hiking, bike riding, or just being out in the sun. As pointed out in the definition of self-love, this is a desirable, rather than narcissistic trait! It’s good, not selfish. What an affirming reminder.

“Tasha is a deep, thoughtful and moving writer, which beautifully and perfectly emulates the deep, thoughtful and moving woman that she is. Tasha’s courage and authenticity is contagious, and there are few humans that I’ve known who have been as open with their hearts through their own pain as they are available for others in the midst of theirs. Tasha’s words on, and experience with, grief will comfort you and make you feel less alone in your pain as she shares how she’s been moving through hers.”
Julia Kristina, MA Psych

“Tasha’s writing style connects with the reader on a personal & emotional level. She writes from the Whole Heart & shares her experiences in a refreshingly transparent & authentic way. Tasha has the ability to go deep into detail while also providing perspective over the story. Her profound resolve & commitment to an ever-increasing level of self-forgiveness & self-compassion will resonate with many like-minded readers; serving as an inspiration to continue on their own journeys.”

“Tasha’s writing should inspire each of us to know there is life beyond grief. Through her pain, she has become a beautiful butterfly! She is a strong woman whom I admire.”
Nancy Frazier
“Tasha’s experience of grief is relatable and the way she expresses herself made me feel that my experiences with grief are validated. I have lost many relatives and I also had a friend who became estranged with me. I felt hope reading her chapter because as she expressed her pain and sadness, she also expressed her healing and that gives me hope that I can heal from grief too.”
Chris Hill

“Shaima’s chapter is a heartfelt and honest exploration of your personal journey towards self-love. You effectively convey your challenges and transformations you experienced, which provide insights to me as the reader and will do so for many other readers. The chapter captures the essence of self-love as an ongoing journey rather than a destination, emphasizing the choices and commitments you made to honour and cherish yourself.
You openly share your struggles, from the emptiness you felt as a stay-at-home mother to the impact of your cousin’s death to cancer as well as the weight you carried yearning for external validation. These personal experiences add authenticity to your narrative and makes it easy for the reader to connect with your story as they reflect on their own lives.
The chapter also highlights the importance of self-reflection which leads to the realisation that self-love goes beyond surface-level activities. You discuss the impact of childhood experiences, such as your parents’ divorce, and how it shaped your beliefs about yourself. By acknowledging and challenging your beliefs, you demonstrate the power of being self-aware as you journey towards self-love.
Your motivation and commitment in pursuing your dreams while navigating motherhood and professional development are inspiring. The way you describe the embracing of the chaos in your life and finding opportunities for growth in unexpected situations resonates with me and with all readers who may be facing their own obstacles. Your commitment displayed to personal growth and the joy you derive from it, serves as a testament to how self-love can transform anyone.
The inclusion of your religious practices, such as prayer, gratitude, and self-care, adds a beautiful layer to your chapter. It hig
