T HE T RACK OF G ET S ET G O …
The road to success is always under construction
Since you have opened this book, you must be a believer of this thought.
Either you are constructing your road to success or cleaning the site to begin construction or perhaps you are searching for the right site to construct the road.
If you have opened this book out of mere curiosity, perhaps you are not interested in any road to success. Then, you must read this book. It will enable you not to lead life but to live it.
This book is a result of our “Tumultous Teamwork” . It began with our “deafening discussions” followed by the “rigorous writing sessions”. Amidst all brainstorming discussions, there was one common wish - the quest to find the right thought and the right words.
When we were many arguments old, the pattern of our puzzle gradually became clear. Our thoughts resulted in right words and the whole concept started falling in place.
Through this book; we went to convey one message, loud and clear: Find out yourself and change yourself to become the best possible .
Generally the books related to success and motivation, can be read by beginning any chapter. Such books generally deal with attitude or motivation or communication.
This book requires a sequential reading. This book will give astonishing results when it will be read in sequence - from the beginning till the end. It is a journey through characteristics of different people.
Walk slowly through all the chapters and you will be able to sculpt a new ‘I’.
Happy journey .
Swati-Shailesh Lodha
MY NOTE:
You must be thinking when the whole book has been written as a joint venture, Why this special note?
This note is an admittance. Actually, I helped in making the outline of the book and handed it over to Swati, my better half in all senses. It was she who developed the complete picture with a lot of persistence. She, the perfect manager, completed it in record time despite so many jobs at her hands.
She is the major author. The credit for this wonderful work goes to her. Hope you will enjoy it.
– Shailesh Lodha
And Finally where ever in this book you find “I” it means “We” . We have used “I” because we are a Team.
S HALL W E T HANK Y OU ?
This is the most meticulous job during the whole project of writing this book.
Two of us have many people, things and happenings in our lives who have directly or indirectly contributed to this book.
First, we acknowledge our middle class childhood with enthusiastic parents who never had unnecessary affluence but loads of dreams to give.
We acknowledge our friends who believed in our dreams since the conception of our first dream, Swash, our organisation for individual development and corporate training.
Thanks are due to all the Swashians, who gave us valuable insights into various attitudes and behaviours.
We are not thanking people in any particular order. Had this acknowledgement been written by Swati alone, it would have been systematic but as this is done by me (Shailesh), you can expect a little topsy turvy description.
When I want to say thanks to our friends from different fields - bureaucracy, politics, corporate world, actually everybody who came across and trusted us deserves our gratitude. But some of them need special mention.
Former Speaker Lok Sabha Shri Balram Jakhar sahib who has always been very motivating. We are grateful for his blessings.
All the friends from politics who despite being busy, always managed time for asking about Swash, especially Shri Narendra Nahata, Minister in M.P. Government.
We thank Mr. Hemant Gera, IAS, (whom I call Hemant) for being a true friend of Swash, an ardent well wisher.
Thanks are due to Dr. Randell M. Macleod, Dean, Harding University School of Business, USA and Dr. Bryn Burks (Present Dean) for believing in us.
Mr. Jagdish Sharma a genuine friend has always been a source of inspiration.
All the organisers / promoters abroad who have turned into best of my friends.
Mrs. Sampoorna Jain (Long Island), who believed in me for the first time. Thank you Sampoorna aunty.
Sunil-Sarita Shah (Newyork), a wonderful family, more like an extension of my family in USA. Thanks Sunil.
Prabha-Arvind Bhandari (Newyork), a terrific duo, thank you very much.
Mr. K.K. Mehta, CPA, Mr. Navin Shah (DDK and Co., Manhattan), Rajshree Bhabhi, Meenu-Rakesh Bhargava (Newyork) who gave us tonnes of appreciation.
Sushma-Vijay Pallod in Houston are real well wishers. Thanks.
How can I forget all the friends in Chicago, specially Dr. Uma-Dwarka Taparia. I will just say “what a wonderful couple” and definitely enthusiastic promoters of my programmes there, Usha-Sunil Rathi, Gulshan-Suresh Khattar. Thank you all.
Although Mr. Rajesh Yadav is an IAS, Ms. Malini Agarwal is an IPS but they are simply friends of ours. Thank you very much.
All the friends in bureaucracy have a vital role in our training life. Mr. Sanjay Agarwal, IPS, Mr. S. Sengathir, IPS, Mr. R.N. Arvind, IAS, Mr. R.P. Sharma for always being there.
We thank Mr. Sarvjit Vij whom we love to trouble and he is one of the smartest salesmen we have ever come across.
We are grateful to Mr. Kshemankar Pattii, who did the commendable job of setting the whole book. We admire Mr. Rajkumar Patel for his wonderful illustrations.
A special thanks to Mr. Prashant Kothari, Mr. Om Gaur, Mr. D.S. Chauhan, Mr. Vijay Mehta (Indore), Mr. Kamal Mehta (Jaipur) and Mr. Ajay Chajlani (Indore) for being a well-wisher of Swash.
Two brothers Nikhilesh and Dharmendra Chauhan, trained at Swash then worked at Swash as our assistants. Thanks.
We will not thank but we love them all. Shail-Sunil Jain (Indore), Manisha-Saurabh Mishra (Mumbai), and Anju-Deepak Surana (Washington) are a wonderful family.
Though we have dedicated the book to our parents, we want to thank them once again for making us what we are.
Swaraa wants to thank her grand parents who have always cared for her while her Muma was busy with the book. Since there are no other words, thank you - Muma 2 and Papa 2 .
Last but not the least, we thank all the people whose names have not been mentioned but they are as much a part of this book as they are of our lives.
DON’T READ THE BOOK IF YOU DON’T READ THIS CHAPTER
Close your eyes after reading the next sentence. Visualise as many faces as you can, in one minute.
How many faces did you see?
Did you see your parents, siblings or relatives.
Did you see yourself?
Your neighbours or some friends might have come to your mind.
Did you see some great personalities or celebrities?
I know you haven’t closed your eyes yet.
Come on, close them and visualise variety of faces you know.

Close your eyes once again and visualise yourself in as many different images as possible.
I know it sounds awkward. You must be feeling “what’s up?”
Come on, close them and see your own image.
What did you see?
Were you blank?
Did you see a few images of yourself?
You must have seen yourself as happy and successful, laughing and enjoying.
Perhaps you saw yourself as a mess.

It is easier to visualise others.
It is much difficult to visualise oneself.
Whatever you saw, one thing is clear.
It is easier to visualise others.
It is much difficult to visualise oneself.
We can look at others easily, we can form opinions about them because we love to judge others. We e to love them. We love to hate them.
But when it comes to oneself, it’s difficult. How can you judge yourself ? How can you define yourself clearly and impartially?
We love to look outside through our window. But we forget to look inside us. We love to look inside the next door. But we forget to open the doors of our own mind.
Our eyes don’t want to see within because it’s a complex task and we want to escape it.
Wait.
No more biased views about others. No more escapism from yourself.
Realise what you actually are and understand what others are really like.
We did a survey with the participants of our workshops. The participants belonged to the age group of 20-35. They were given a task of spending two hours in separate closed rooms with a television set and nothing else. (The rooms had secret video cameras to watch them). Survey of 60 participants revealed the way different people behave .
(a) Those who sat in the room, wondering what to do, paced the rooms and looked at their watches most of the time . They didn’t even open the windows. On asking later they revealed that they were just waiting for those two hours to end. They didn’t think much about what was the whole exercise about .
(b) Those who surfed channels and couldn’t settle for anything in particular. They kept on surfing aimlessly .
On asking later, they revealed that the experiment was boring. One even said that he had wasted his time .
(c) Those who enjoyed television and slept merrily . On asking later, they revealed that they enjoyed their time, One of the professionals said, “I am generally busy in my office so I can neither watch TV nor sleep properly hence I enjoyed TV and caught up on my s
