Sample Book Insights:
#1 I had grown up in a family that didn’t drink or smoke, but all food was considered okay. I had never taken care of my health, and by 2010, I was severely overweight.
#2 The Daniel Plan is a lifestyle program based on biblical principles and five essential components: Food, Fitness, Focus, Faith, and Friends. It was designed to help members of my congregation lose weight.
#3 The Daniel Plan is simple: dedicate your body to God, ask for his help, and get involved in a small group that will support you on your journey. Then start making healthy choices, such as replacing donuts with fresh fruit and making exercise a part of your daily routine.
#4 The Bible has a lot to say about the importance of the body God gave you. It is talked about through the Bible. But for the sake of brevity, I will only highlight one chapter of the Bible that deals with the importance of the body: 1 Corinthians 6:12 – 20.

#1

I had grown up in a family that didn’t drink or smoke, but all food was considered okay. I had never taken care of my health, and by 2010, I was severely overweight.

#2

The Daniel Plan is a lifestyle program based on biblical principles and five essential components: Food, Fitness, Focus, Faith, and Friends. It was designed to help members of my congregation lose weight.

#3

The Daniel Plan is simple: dedicate your body to God, ask for his help, and get involved in a small group that will support you on your journey. Then start making healthy choices, such as replacing donuts with fresh fruit and making exercise a part of your daily routine.

#4

The Bible has a lot to say about the importance of the body God gave you. It is talked about through the Bible. But for the sake of brevity, I will only highlight one chapter of the Bible that deals with the importance of the body: 1 Corinthians 6:12 – 20.

#5

When you say yes to God, accepting by faith what Jesus did for you and trusting his grace and forgiveness to save you, then God puts his Spirit inside you as a guarantee of your salvation. Your body becomes a temple of God’s love when God puts his Spirit inside you.

#6

In the new body you will have in heaven, there will be no broken parts, no blemishes, no wounds, and no pain. You will be able to walk around Jerusalem for forty days after your resurrection, and people will see you and talk with you.

#7

To change your habits, you must first recognize that they are not who you are, and that you have weaknesses, but you are not your weaknesses. You are a unique creation of God, flawed by your nature and choices, yet deeply loved by God.

#8

You have an enemy who wants to discourage you. Not only do you have to fight against your natural inclinations, but Satan, whom the Bible calls the Deceiver and the Accuser, is actively working against you every moment of your day.

#9

The truth will make you free, but first it will make you miserable. You will never change your habits until you face the truth about yourself and your relationship with God, food, and your purpose in life.

#10

You won’t change until you choose to change. You won’t get healthy by accident. It’s intentional. It takes a decision. As you make more and more healthy choices, you will begin to change.

#11

As you begin to follow The Daniel Plan, you will see how God has a part in your physical health and your spiritual maturity. You do what you can do, and God does what only he can do.

#12

To change your behavior, you must first change your thoughts. Your thoughts are the autopilot of your life. To change your mind, you must focus on something else and immediately lose your temptation’s power over you.

#13

God’s power, not just willpower, is needed to change. The more I allow God’s Spirit to guide and empower me, the more self-controlled I become.

#14

Some of your habits and patterns are so deep-rooted that you will never be able to uproot and replace them on your own. You will need the support of others to change these areas.

#15

I am proud of you for wanting to be healthier, and I hope you will join thousands of us who have used The Daniel Plan as a tool to change what we feared could never change.
Insights from Chapter 2

#1

The five Essentials of The Daniel Plan are faith, food, fitness, focus, and friends. They are a pathway to much more than improved physical health. They hold up your life, enlivens your body, enriches your mind, and fills your heart.

#2

Faith is a part of the secret of The Daniel Plan. You must believe you can get healthy even if you can’t see it yet. Faith is visualizing the future in advance. It is seeing the future in the present.

#3

I had to embrace the change, and I knew deep down that this would impact my life in ways I could not imagine. I had to stay close to God.

#4

You must keep going even when you want to quit. Faith is a verb, not a noun. It is something you do. Decision making is a faith-building activity. Use your muscles of faith to build your physical muscles.

#5

Food is more than just a meal. It can improve your health, reconnect families, and even help your kids get better grades. It can cure most diseases, and it works faster, better, and cheaper than any drug.

#6

The American health care system spends almost $3 trillion a year on chronic lifestyle preventable and reversible disease.

#7

The Daniel Plan is based on a simple principle: take the junk out and let the abundance in. You will be introduced to a new world of fresh fruits and vegetables, beans, whole grains, nuts, seeds, eggs, chicken, fish, lean animal products, and spices.

#8

Daniel was a strong man, body, mind, heart, and spirit. He found his power, purpose, and strength in devotion to God. He was Daniel strong, but he didn’t have this strength from birth. He acquired it by following God's plan and design for his life.

#9

The story of Daniel is a prime example of how a strong man can serve the king of Babylon. He was chosen as a young boy to serve the king, and he diligently trained physically, intellectually, relationally, and spiritually.

#10

The Daniel Plan helps you find a personal fitness strategy that you will enjoy. It will help you discover what moves you so that you can build and strengthen the body God gave you.

#11

Your brain is vital for your health, and it is important to maintain a healthy brain if you want to maintain a healthy body. Negative thoughts, positive thoughts, or lack of thought can consume you, and you must focus on God’s plan and priorities for your life.

#12

Part of staying focused is being able to develop mastery over the quality of your thoughts. Your brain is involved in everything you do. Modern-day neuroscience has shown that when your brain works right, you tend to be happier, physically healthier, and more thoughtful.

#13

Focus and a healthy mind do not exclude failure. They help you have the right attitude toward failure. If you focus and have a healthy mind, you will be able to turn bad days into good information and study your failures.

#14

The secret to The Daniel Plan is having friends and faith, which makes it a lifestyle that is attainable and maintainable. Diet and nutrition books can provide you with the nuts and bolts, but only the support of others can increase your results and sustain them.
Insights from Chapter 3

#1

You must first believe that changes are possible for you to make any healthy changes in your life. You must also trust God to give you his power to change. Without God’s help, you will eventually give up.

#2

The Daniel Plan is about your total health, not just your physical fitness.
