Description

Straddling the Barbed Wire, and then one day during a really heavy racial tension project decided it was more like straddling electrified razor wire to be multi racial………multi-cultural, multi-modality educated, seeing men AND women, NOT fights, seeing FAMILIES, not generational disputes. Seeing starvation, war, genocide, rather than what we, as humans could do on this earth each day, to help others, to maintain and restore nature, to create a better world for the next seven generations and pass that duty on.

While working on parent involved Racial Tension and Gang Abatement projects I found the parents felt the school district and individual schools thought the parents were dispensable irritants, rather than their closest allies to educate Individuals to love learning, find a passion and become good citizens.
Most of these parents had received surveys, either mailed, or given by a teacher and required to return them completed. Over and Over. Nothing they said, was ever done. with respect to THEIR thoughts, dreams, and expectations for their children. A large number of the parents worked, came from what I consider a demeaning description, “working class” families. In other words THEY worked, often grueling labor jobs, and paid the taxes to have these arrogant self aggrandizing persons inflicted on their children.
MY personal background had NOT been to become a teacher, but somehow in my work-study, and demeaning financial aid package, the great “they” decided I would do teaching externships to allow me to pay my tuition. I decided I would NEVER work in public schools, and felt true gratitude and inspiration for the teachers I had had who endured and taught in public schools, My sister E chose private school, where she was lovingly treated to as much racism as anyone dared knowing my Mother, Grandfather and Uncle were all strong White Anglo Saxon Protestant leadership in the community as a Battalion Chief, a well respected Homicide Detective and a Deputy of Adoptions and Foster Care. My Grandmother a well beloved women’s group member and friend to most of the community whether by teaching people. and their children piano, or by helping them find and attain goals (such as being the first high school graduate in their family history, or college graduate, or Doctoral student). AND they all were members of a very powerful church group, which contained many doctors, lawyers, scientists, judges and politicians. We ALL knew from our back and forth marathon of divorced children to the Rez what it meant to be red N……….s as the Native Californians were called, or “skins”. just before being beaten, shot or lynched by the lovely invaders of our beautiful state. Whether on their own lands, like my Grandfather, a decorated war veteran walking home from work, or active duty soldiers, “skins” was used to justify the murder. of innocent people, no wonder people do not want teams named this horrible word.
There were NO wars here, just a vicious and greedy genocide paid for by taxpayers and legislated by corrupt palsies of the gold and other mining investors and what they called the land and water “barons”. Our Governor has in the past year formally apologized for this racist and unconstitutional behavior, and it being legislated and paid for in part by the taxpayers. (In the 1880 TERMINATION Legislation of the California State Legislature).
The Native Californians in the south had already suffered both the Cortez genocide and the Mission concentration camp centuries before the “gold rush” heroes came to complete the genocide under legislation of the late 1880’s and paid for by taxpayers. Our Governor has recently formally apologized to the Native Californians, we do not see our lands being restored and help rebalancing Nature that was by our culture a duty bound by our Creator to care for to pass better and stronger to the next seven generations teaching each of those generations these same duties to the earth, Creator and the animals, fish, fowl and all living creatures. But a heartfelt apology was a start of an end to racism that has occurred globally to all native peoples. In our research to establish healing centers, we found even Ireland, Britain, Wales and Scotland still have wandering but sincere natives of their lands, often called gypsies or other negative demeaning names. Many still are NOT recognized as human or deserving of respect and restoration to their traditional lands. Genocide is NOT war. Genocide is underclass murder of mostly women and children and elders not able to defend themselves. War.
WAR is, said my Dad, a multiple decorated WWII paratrooper dropped behind enemy lines to keep the Nazi troops from doubling back and retreating on D. Day, as well as keep their supply routes and weapons from reaching them……………two young persons, face to face, who better kill the other first, or be killed for something two old farts somewhere want that is not theirs and they have no right to.
Humans said my Dad, drift here not even half the life of respected tortoise and whales that live twice as long, without “owning” things, or going to war.
I think he has the experience of war and racism to be respected for his thoughts.
Returning to parents of school children: It is time for parents to take their Constitutional Rights and do exactly what parents of rich and powerful families do: rate the school, not the kid and make sure their children are safe and well educated for real life. In America this means to be prepared for higher education and leadership in all areas. IF an exclusive private school does not deliver, their doors close due to lack of students. There are many private schools that are shams. The more they charge, the more they attract fools who think cost is the determining factor, but their poor results give us college (even high school) students who know where to find poverty stricken college graduates who will do their homework and the media tells us recently can even within ten minutes hack in and send major test results by wrist watch phone. People want to say, well, that’s kids……I surely do not want to be the patient on the table while. my doctor is reciting “leg bone connected to the knee bone……knee bone connected the thigh bone….” while waiting for the phone connection to…….what? An engineering or philosophy graduate student without a job!
If a Grandparent, disabled parent, or member of a senior disabled group created after the California “Grandparents CARE” groups has to sit, one inside a a classroom, one outside, and two little old Grandmothers inside the bathrooms and two Grandparents outside each bathroom that is what needs to happen. Our children need to be safe in school.
Grandparents CARE started during the gang beatings, drive by shootings, and severe bullying and molesting of children at school, on school and public busses, and on walking ways to and from schools, and in local parks. They became CARE because when the first group went to a discount tee shirt shop, there were a lot of misprinted shirts that had the word CARE on them…….Each person then added Grandparents in their own permanent marker and the group had their uniforms. PAIRS of these elders and disabled persons, parents with small children, sat in beach chairs outside their own front doors. This was before mobile phones were commonly owned, they kept their home phone on a long cord, stretched out to the porch, in order to dial the police if needed.
These were the neighborhood elders and disabled, Moms, Dads without work, or just out of prison from each local area. They KNEW, possibly might be related to the ones causing trouble. It is rather hard to act like a “gangsta” when your Grandmother is giving you “the snake eye”, that universally known Grandmother look that means, in all
