Glossary
W ELCOME TO THE WILDERNESS EXPERIENCE!
The lives of courageous men wrote the history of our nation. Bold courage! These men stood up when others depended on them. The best were servant leaders.
Ad Dare Servire is the motto of the Royal Rangers Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship. It means To give and to serve. Our Master Ranger, Jesus Christ, showed the greatest courage of all. He did not live for His own purposes, but to serve others and to give His life away. That s courageous service!
In the same way, as Royal Rangers we are called upon to serve others at the cost of self. Everything you discover about yourself as you develop as a man and as a leader is preparation to serve God s purposes and everyone Jesus sacrificed His life for.
As an FCF member, you will live the wilderness experience, the color and lore of the early frontiersman. The outfits and accoutrements are an exciting part of our brotherhood. And our shared experiences and friendship serve an important purpose: they drive us to do as the early frontiersmen-to explore, to guide, to make a way for others.
Like the great men of yesteryear, you are called upon to write history today. The lives of many depend on your willingness to live a life of courageous service. Jesus promises boldness so you can do this.
You have what it takes to live the wilderness experience. But don t take our word for it; find out for yourself! Are you READY ?

Paul Walters, National FCF President Grey Owl
The smell of wood smoke drifts through the forest as you follow a dusty trail to a remote part of the valley. As you reach the peak of a pine-covered ridge, you see a group of bright white canvas shelters. Savory meals cooking in cast iron Dutch ovens fill the air with a delicious aroma. A frontier village can now be seen, filled with boys and men dressed in colorful frontier attire-a mixture of muslin, linen, beads, bone, and leatherwork. A flurry of activity is taking place around areas of the camp where competitions are underway. Frontiersmen young and old are demonstrating their expertise in traditional frontier skills such as fire starting with flint and steel, tomahawk and knife throwing, black powder rifle shooting, and primitive archery. The practice of trading and selling primitive handmade wares is taking place throughout the village. You might believe you re in a genuine pre-1840s frontier encampment. And yet, you ve just experienced the sights and sounds of Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship.

F RONTIERSMEN C AMPING F ELLOWSHIP (FCF) IS A SPECIAL PROGRAM OF R OYAL R ANGERS THAT PROVIDES BOYS AND MEN WITH ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO DEVELOP SPECIALIZED OUTDOOR SKILLS BASED ON THE LORE AND TRADITIONS OF THE EARLY A MERICAN FRONTIERSMAN .

Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship (FCF) is a special program of Royal Rangers that provides boys and men with additional opportunities to develop specialized outdoor skills based on the lore and traditions of the early American frontiersman. FCF members participate in special events where frontier skills are demonstrated and practiced. Competitions are commonly held that promote the development of these skills and reflect the excitement, color, and flair of frontier America.
The early American frontiersmen exemplified the spirit of adventure and courage. They climbed mountain trails and made their way through a snow-filled mountain pass with great anticipation for what they might find on the other side. These rugged individuals were willing to risk much to blaze a new trail into the unknown wilderness so others would eventually follow. Members of Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship are challenged to demonstrate the same attributes exemplified by those early frontiersmen.
The mission of FCF is to develop a spirit of brotherhood and servanthood among its members who give of their time and energy to enhance the Royal Rangers ministry, their church, community, and world.
Come and join the ongoing adventure that is FCF!
A B RIEF H ISTORY OF F RONTIERSMEN C AMPING F ELLOWSHIP
Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship (FCF) was started during the summer of 1966. For some time, Royal Rangers founder Johnnie Barnes had felt the need for a special group within Royal Rangers to give recognition to older boys and men who had distinguished themselves in the program through service, advancement, training, and outdoor skills.
The early American frontiersmen were an excellent example of people s ability to adapt to the outdoors and the wilderness. Their achievements were also an example of courage and determination. The national Royal Rangers office decided to base this fellowship on the lore and traditions of these early frontiersmen.

In 1970, Rev. John Eller is appointed as the first national FCF president; Johnnie Barnes serves as national FCF chairman.
In 1972, the first National FCF Rendezvous is held at Fantastic Caverns near Springfield, Missouri. Two hundred boys and men attend the Rendezvous.
