Description

If you are a beginner wanting to make a quilt you can be proud of and can show to others with pride, this is for you.  The quilt pattern is for a 40 in. by 60 in. lap quilt that should fit just about everyone. You get a list of supplies necessary for making the quilt and some that make quilting a little easier and are fun to use.

Also included is a short history of quilting from colonial days up to now.

UNDERGROUND RAILROAD QUILT HISTORY

Some scholars say the underground railroad quilt is a myth because there is no documentation about it.  Others say it was a way for the enslaved escapees to find help along their way north to freedom. Each block had a different meaning giving directions on which way to go and where food, and clean clothing could be obtained.

This gives you the opportunity to decide if you think the Underground Railroad Quilt is a myth or true facts.

Underground Railroad Quilt
Introduction
I hope you find this book helpful in making your lap quilt. I started quilting forty-two years ago when my son asked me to make him a quilt.
Anyone who likes to sew can make a lap quilt quickly, depending on the size of the squares and how large the lap quilt will be. If you put decorations on the quilt, it will take a little longer.
I put a signature square on my quilts in the corner square at the bottom. The square pattern is a cross with praying hands, a prayer scarf, and "You are covered in prayer" embroidered on the square. Those who have seen my quilts before will see the square and know who made it. You may want to create your own signature square for your quilt. You can buy unique buttons or small ready-made bows where you buy your sewing supplies. You can use about anything to show the quilt as yours.
I hope you enjoy making this lap quilt and have fun doing it. Just be sure to remember that all quilters make mistakes and get frustrated. Correct the mistake, take three deep breaths to relieve the frustration, and keep going.
