FOREWORD
What a pleasure and honour to be asked to write the foreword to Chris and Kevin’s book. Being a life long Gashead I like to think I know a thing or two about Bristol Rovers, but then I read this book and realised just how little I did know! It’s an absolute must for us Rovers fans and gave me hours of fun and provoked some wonderful memories, what magic! Test your knowledge and maybe even learn a few more things about the Gas along the way! I am sure you will enjoy this book as much as I did!
Yours in football Ian Holloway

FOREWORD
My 15 years as a player with Bristol Rovers took me from 1965 through to 1980. My first eighteen months was as a part-time professional as I was still an apprentice plumber, then aged 20 I signed as a full-time professional. At the time of signing Mr Bert Tann was the manager and was shortly followed by Mr Fred Ford. Larry Lloyd and Ray Grayson were just two of the many up and coming good, young players. There were also some legends at Bristol Rovers, who were coming to the end of their careers, namely Alfie Biggs, Ray Mabbutt and Doug Hillard, to name but a few. During my early years at the club my greatest influence came from Bobby Campbell and Bill Dodgin, we were a very young side but worked hard at our game. At the ripe old age of 33, I was disappointed to have to leave Bristol Rovers. I spent many happy years playing with some very good players which were also friends. I was very fortunate to have avoided any minor injuries through my career. I am very honoured to have been asked to write the foreword to Chris’s and Kevin’s book, they have put a lot of hard work into it to put all the questions and answers together. It recalled some wonderful memories for me and I am sure all Pirates from the past to the present day will have fun with this book. A great test for all fans and fun for all the family. Enjoy!
Best wishes Stuart Taylor viii
INTRODUCTION
I would first of all like to thank Ian Holloway and Stuart Taylor for writing the foreword to this book. Ian has both played and managed the club so he has seen a lot happen, he is also very well respected by Rovers fans. Stuart is a true legend for Rovers and holds the record for appearing the most times in a Rovers shirt. I am very grateful for their help on this project. I would also like to thank all the past legends of Bristol Rovers Football Club and many current employees of the club for their comments and reviews on this book (these can be found at the back of the book). I would also like to thank Steve Burns for his help and advice during the books compilation. I hope you enjoy this book. Hopefully it should bring back some wonderful memories! It was great working with Kevin Snelgrove again, who is very well organised, between us I hope we have given you a selection of easy, medium and hard questions. In closing, I would like to thank all my friends and family for encouraging me to complete this book.
Best wishes Chris Cowlin
