In Peaches and Jake and 19 Cobras , readers are re-introduced to these two rescue dogs, each kind and gentle, and have time to enjoy their antics getting in-and-out of trouble, while these pups are smiling a lot! They peek from under the bed, they roam the house, which by the way is decorated for Christmas, they jump up onto the bed, and sit wherever they want. At one point they go on a RV adventure where they both sit in the front seats and “play” as if they are driving, saying things like “slow down, you’re going too fast.” This part reminded me of a Gary Larson Far Side cartoon where the cows take over the car and people are grazing in the grass. The two dogs are a bit mischievous when caught tearing out the cotton from a stuffed doll and are subsequently “sent to jail,” which is their mom’s office. Knowing how to slide the door open, they escape to freedom. Cheers can be imagined by the youngsters having their parents reading this story to them!
Paula Bailey has packed many emotional and smart dog personality traits into the photographs of her K-9 companions. From retrieving the mail – to climbing into the warm spot on her bed when the author gets up in the evening –and not letting her back, Jake and Peaches “rule the roost,” so to speak in chicken terms.
There is a ‘synergy of using the photographs along with the storyline, a bit forced at times, but overall having a delightful flow of comforting and safe insight into the minds of such precious companions. Yes, dogs are amazing, and Peaches and Jake and 19 Cobras give readers an adventure with dog-images which can be enjoyed by children with their own dogs, and even better those who do not have a dog (for whatever reason) and yet want to enjoy the pleasures of K-9 companionship.
It’s easy to personify the thoughts and actions of dogs, as they have a special bond with humans. Paula Bailey shares some of her precious moments for all to enjoy in this charming book.

Peaches and Jake are rescue dogs and starring in their second book. They are always on the lookout for the “19 Cobras” and their relatives, the “Delta Very Aunts.” The author uses these wordplays to have the dogs talk about the Covid virus and basic practices people can use to stay safe. Also, the playful dogs have their own adventures. They can be mischievous and end up in doggie jail, help their owner bring in the mail and earn treats, or even take trips in the RV and pretend they are driving. The dogs are quite upbeat characters and enjoy their days. They have expressive faces, and their hijinks are accompanied by photos of them in action.
Bailey clearly loves her dogs and the adventures she has with them. Her book is full of short episodes detailing the dogs’ actions with photos capturing the events. The book is clearly targeted towards children and is specifically aimed at dog lovers. Those with canine companions or those who are fans of pets in general will likely find these two animals adorable and enjoy seeing their pictures and hearing their stories.

INTRODUCTION
If you have read our first book, “ Peaches and the 19 Cobras” , you know that Peaches and Jake are two amazing rescue dogs who keep me entertained and on my toes both night and day.
They are best buddies, and from the moment I brought three-year-old Peaches home from the shelter to meet my six-year-old Jake, whom I had rescued from a different shelter three years before, they bonded immediately. It was as if Jake knew somehow that he was the big brother and that he was meant to protect Peaches. I never saw them fight with each other or growl in anger. If she wanted something Jake had, he would always share it with her. It was really unbelievable!
So with COVID-19 still actively being a part of everyone’s lives, Peaches and Jake want to tell you a little more about how they are coping with that aspect of our lives, which makes this book just an extension of the first book. It shows a little bit more about our lives together and some of the cute and wonderful joy a couple of “canine kids” can bring to your life.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it for you!
♥ Always,
Paula Bailey
