Dr. Abdul Kalam was a true Indian and a great patriot. Truly secular, this first citizen of India had passionately studied Bhagwad Gita along with Quran Sharif and imbibed the teachings of these great Holy Scriptures in his life. He was a vegetarian and a teetotaler who believed in the doctrine of non-violence and life based on values.

Publisher’s Note
“Dream is not that which you see while sleeping it is something that does not let you sleep.”
–Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam
“Whatever may be the depth of water in a river, lake or pond; whatever may be the condition of water—cold, warm or stormy—the lotus will always surface and bloom.”
These lines of saint poet Thiruvalluvar befit former President of India, Dr. Abul Pakir Jainulabaddin Abdul Kalam. He reached the highest post in spite of difficulties and struggles in life which people can ever imagine. This is the reason why he always people to see dreams. Our dreams appear before us in the form of ideas. We strive hard to turn ideas in reality.
A man must achieve his objective with firmness and conviction even if it appears to be impossible. All of us know that success does not come easily. We face lots of hurdles but we surrender to them. Rather we must win over them with wisdom and courage. With these ideals, Dr. Kalam reached the coveted Presidential Palace starting from a small cottage of Dhanushkodi (Rameshwaram).
President Dr. Kalam said that human brain is an unparalleled gift. You can travel through it. You should have inquisitiveness and studiousness. It is full of miracles of the universe.
He suggested that the thoughts should be transformed into assets. He said that life was full of ups and downs but success came only to those who conquered hardships. In his opinion— Thoughtfulness is the source of progressiveness. Thoughtless people bring stagnation to the Organisations and to the country also. Thoughtfulness is the source of inspiration for action. Without action, knowledge becomes useless and irrelevant. Knowledge with action changes misfortune into fortune.
President Kalam liked to ask questions. He also loved to talk children. In his lifetime, he had met more than 3 lakh children. He could see the future of India in the eyes of these children.
He hoped for a developed nation from children.
He dreamt of a vision of India that it would be a highly developed nation of the world by the year 2020. We should make whole-hearted efforts to fulfil his desires and dreams.
He had enormous faith in children and youth to transform his dreams into reality. Dr. Kalam dreamt of flying an aircraft in his childhood. He turned his dreams into reality. He soared high along with his country. “Prithvi”, “Akash”, “Trishul”, “Naag” and “Agni”, were his dreams and all of them came true. All these five dreams are the five elements which constitute every Indian. There is no doubt that Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will stand as a guideline for all the coming generations.
Dr. Kalam made India a self-dependent country in development of atomic power. All the human qualities like simplicity, agility, zeal and aspiration were present in him since his childhood. He lived with simplicity and yet he maintained the dignity of his position.
He was invited at a meeting in Delhi by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi when he successfully launched SLV-3. He thought he looked shabby in his simple dress and sandals when he reached Delhi for the meeting. Prof. Satish Dhawan commented to encourage him, “Kalam, you are beautifully dressed with your successes.”
A degree of doctorate is considered to be coveted and tough achievement for a man and yet Dr. Kalam was adorned with the degrees of “Doctor of Science” (D.Sc.) by 30 universities and teaching institutions. These degrees are symbolic of his great personality.
Dr. Kalam was a rare legend. It is very difficult to describe his greatness in words. The manifold aspects of a scientist, philosopher, great human being and a President are embodied in one person which is a source of inspiration for us.

A man comes to earth as an insignificant creature and after a long struggle, establishes his identity in the society. During this process, he faces many types of good and bad experiences.
