Introduction
Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is a man of vision, who is always full of ideas aimed at the development of the country. He firmly believes that India needs to play a more assertive role in international arena.
Apart from being a notable scientist and an engineer, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has been appointed as the 11 th President of India from the period 2002 to 2007. He is also referred to as the Missile Man of India . People used to love and respect Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam so much that during his tenure as President he was popularly known as the People’s President.
A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born in South Indian state, Tamil Nadu and received honorary doctorates from 30 Universities globally. In the year 1981, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan and then again, the Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and the Bharat Ratna in 1997. Before Kalam, there have been only two presidents—Dr Radhakrishnan and Dr Zakir Hussain—to have received the Bharat Ratna before being appointed to the highest office in India.

Birth
Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen (A.P.J.) Abdul Kalam was born on the sacred land of Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu) on 15 th October, 1935 to a poor boatman Jainulabdeen and his wife Ashiamma in the lane by the side of the mosque.
Everyone, who is born on this earth, comes with a destiny assigned to him. But there are few whose fates become their fortune, like in the case of Dr Abdul Kalam. He was born in the family of a simple but industrious muslim boatman who had true faith in God.
Childhood
Abdul Kalam grew up in the laps of his parents like the other children. His father used to love him too much and always thought that his child would definitely earn name and fame all around the world. His mother used to make him sit on the floor of the kitchen and placed a banana leaf before him, on which she used to put rice and sambar, home-made pickles and fresh coconut chutney.
