INTRODUCTION
Our Princess of Prose
Destiny Pearl Burkett, whom we call our Princess, is a rare combination of talents. At age 3 delivering the mail (weekly ads and fliers), she informed her Grandma “Nothing in the mail today but propaganda!”
We have had the privilege and pleasure of watching and encouraging and “guiding” our Princess through her formative years. To us, she will always be as the mischievous inquisitive exploring precious mind she is. Such as she is in this photo:

She has been a “Young Author” since 3 rd grade having been recognized for her literary skills at The Local Level , The Regional Level; and, The State Level as well.
She is continually on The Honor Roll at school and has earned several Medals for her Academic Achievements in both Math and Language Arts. She is presently attending Southwest Illinois College as part of Granite City High School’s and the colleges “Running Start Program.” She has completed her Freshman year of college concurrent with her Junior year of High School. She earned membership in Phi Theta Kappa due to her academics at college.
Destiny has also served on The School Newspaper; The Student Council; The Science Club; The Boosters Club; Speech and Debate; Member of The Renaissance Program; and Saturday Scholars.
She will complete her Junior and Senior years of High School at Southwest Illinois College where she will graduate with BOTH her High School Diploma and an Associate in Arts College Degree in May/June 2021.
And of course, in her “spare time” she continues to work on her 1 st full length novel.
Thanksgiving with Grandma n Destiny
Gma: “Hey, I love you, little girl!”
Destiny: “I love you too, Grandma.”
Gma: “I’m so glad you came with me today.”
Destiny: “Me too! Grandma, why are there many people here today?”
Gma: “I’m not sure. It might be because it is the last week-end before Thanksgiving. I wonder how many of them are really grateful.”
Destiny: “Do you mean feel thankfulness?”
Gma: “Yeah, that is a better word. That is a BIG word. Do you know what it means?”
Destiny: “Well, I think it means ‘to be happy for what you have,’ you know, ‘appreciate what you have.’”
Gma: “My, that is probably the best definition I have ever heard for being thankful! Where did you hear that?”
Destiny: “In Sunday School. Our teacher gave us a memory verse about “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and The Father in The Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Scofield Study Bible, KJV, 1917, Ephesians 5:20)
Gma: “Destiny, did you know that being thankful is a choice?”
Destiny: “What do you mean a choice, Grandma?”
Gma: “ Well, The Bible says “in all things give thanks .” (Scofield Study Bible, KJV, 1917, I Thessalonians 5:18) So, even if we do not feel our best or real happy, we CAN be thankful for the many Blessings God gives us.”
Destiny: “You mean, even if I don’t feel like I’m thankful, I can or still be thankful?”
Gma: “Yep! You are in charge of thankfulness for you.”
Destiny: “I try to be sure that everyday I tell God I am thankful for Him, for Jesus, for my whole family. Even Bubs when he gets into my things I am still thankful he is my brother.”
Gma: “I know what you mean, Destiny. We can never thank GOD enough for all HE has done for us. I believe I could be thankful for some ice cream about now. How about you?”
Destiny: {Jumping up and down} “Oh Grandma, you know how much I like ice cream!. I am thankful you are my Grandma!”
Gma: “I love you, Destiny.”
Destiny: “I love you too, Grandma!”
