Description

At age 4, Lauren Chisholm declared she had the 'most gorgeoustist, sparkly, friend in all the world, whose voice sounds like singing'. Her parents thought about taking her to a psychiatrist in the hope that Lauren would forget all about her 'favouritemost friend'. But they knew who she was talking about... and what she was talking about: an angel. Their only course of action was to tell Lauren that some things were pretend and most definitely...not real. They knew it was wrong, but they were unsure how else to help her. Lauren was an earthbound human, and to fantasise about a world she would not be allowed to enter was just not acceptable to them. Now, pandemonium is about to erupt. Up in The Heavens, Ambriel, the angel of communications, is worried. He has discovered an anomaly in his Book of Mistdreamers; the Chisholm family had managed to slip through without registering years ago and are now in great danger. There is a Traitor at work. Meanwhile, Forcas, the angel of invisibility and a member of The Infidelibus (a band of angels sworn to protect Mistdreamers), has been chosen to make contact with Lauren to help her realise her Mistdreaming potential. Join her as she ventures into Mistdreaming and explores the realms between Heaven and Hell. Laugh at her antics. Fear for her life when she encounters the Traitor. And share in her joy at finding her one, true love... The ParkFamily:Lauren - TheAwakening is a spellbinding novel that will appeal to fantasy readers. Author Lisanne takes inspiration from Harper Lee, J.R.R. Tolkien and Diana Gabaldon.

Chapter One
The Heavens
Ambriel, the angel of communications, was worried! He rarely fretted, his organisational skills were almost as accomplished as those of an archangel, but he had discovered an anomaly in the registration of a family of Mistdreamers. Somehow, the earthly plane had been manipulated, and the Chisholm family had been omitted from the register.
In a time when knowledge was power, the heavens required all known Mistdreamers to be registered. These mystical humans and their descendants, had been given a gift from Archangel Omniel. He granted them the ability to cross into the heavens through their subconscious and to remain unseen by all but a few chosen angels. Ambriel, the Keeper of Communications, and Paschar, who guarded the veil between the two worlds and taught the Mistdreamers to identify reality from illusion, were but two of the chosen angels.
Omniel’s Mistdreamers reported any unusual activities they may encounter. He hoped this would thwart another angel war and believed, with prior knowledge of revolt, troublemakers would be dealt with, and then the two worlds could be prevented from dissolving into anarchy and chaos, thus preventing untold death.
The stars realigned monthly, and the time was shortly approaching when the veil between mortal and the immortal worlds would open. Ambriel needed to ensure the impossible didn’t happen. The Mistdreamers had to remain on their realm.
He knew, somehow, that Forcas, the Angel of Invisibility, was involved and that pandemonium would shortly erupt, not only in the heavens, but earth would be deluged by the immortals in all forms.
“Have you found him” he asked Paschar, the Angel of Vision, who was bemused by Ambriel‘s impatience.
“Not to be funny, Ambriel, but he’s the Angel of Invisibility, it’s difficult to see him when he does that thing he does.”
Ambriel rolled his eyes “Now is not the time for humour, Paschar,” he admonished as a deep-set panic began curling around his immortal heart. “You are the guardian that keeps both our worlds separate, how can you not be worried?”
Paschar watched his friend and frowned. Ambriel was a peaceful angel, always a calming influence on others, but now, he watched in disbelief as his friend rubbed his handsome face anxiously. “What’s going on, Ambriel? This is more than not being able to find Forcas, you know he roams between Heaven and Hell. What is it you believe he’s done?”
Ambriel sighed and touched Paschar’s arm. “I cannot say, yet, I must speak with Omniel before I declare my concerns, he’s the one in charge of ‘oneness’.
Paschar’s eyes widened, he had never heard Ambriel use a tone other than gentle; to hear sarcasm dripping from his every word was concerning. “Now you have me worried, Ambriel. What’s wrong with you, what have you done?”
Ambriel stared into his friend’s eyes, and fear shone like a beacon from his own. “I think I enabled a family of unregistered Mistdreamers access to Heaven,” he replied anxiously.
Paschar shook his head and smiled. “That can’t have happened, I would have been aware of anybody crossing between worlds…”
They turned to each other and said together, “Forcas!”
Paschar grabbed Ambriel’s arm and started striding toward the heavenly gate. “We must hurry, the stars have moved early this month, and the veil is already down between our worlds. We have to get to Omniel.”

When Lauren Chisholm was four years old, she announced that she no longer wanted to play with ‘ordinary’ people as she now had a much better and more favourite friend; one who was shiny, spoke in a voice that sounded like singing, and that he was the most “gorgeoustist person in all the worlds”.
Her statement so freaked out her parents, they thought about taking her to a psychiatrist, in the hopes that Lauren would forget all about her “favouritemost friend in the worlds”. But they knew who she was talking about. What is important, they knew what she was talking about. Their only course of action was to repeatedly tell Lauren that she was very good with her imagination and that some things were pretend and most definitely… not real.
They knew this course of action was wrong, but they were unsure of how else to help her face the reality of earth. Lauren was an earthbound human, and to fantasise about a world she would not be allowed to enter, was just not acceptable to them.
Cathy Chisholm thought long and hard about what she must tell her daughter, and on reflection, although it pained her greatly, she knew it was the safest way for Lauren to face reality.
Callum Chisholm, on the other hand, thought the best course of action was to take their daughter to a hypnotist and erase any memories of “her favouritemost friend in the worlds”, but he was aware that, perhaps, he was too overprotective of both his girls, and if Cathy thought her way was right, then he would go along her path and let her take the lead in instructing their daughter. However, should this path not work out, he had already put into place an alternate future for all of them.
And so, the painstaking repetition of the words, “It’s just make believe, Lauren”, were instilled into their child.
Lauren could see, even at the age of four, her parents were concerned for her. She knew they loved her because every night, as they tucked her into bed, they would tell her it was make believe, and they always told her how much they loved their little princess.
When they left the room, she was told, “You know I’m real, Lauren, never forget you’re my princess, too”.
She would then roll onto her side, make room on her small bed, and wait until he sat down by her feet. She knew he wouldn’t move from her, and he would remain in his straight-backed, upright position throughout the night, watching over and protecting her. She would smile at him, then fall fast asleep, the colours of the rainbow taking her beyond reality and into her happy dreams.

Lauren checked her bedroom again and shivered. Her family had moved from Florida to Edinburgh ten years previously, and she still couldn’t get used to the cold. She always loved the heat of Florida, the ability to wear a T-shirt, even in winter, was something she still remembered. Sometimes, she even wore a pullover in Edinburgh’s summer.
Though she did love the city. It was more beautiful than Orlando. The history was seeped into the very streets in which she walked. The only similarity between the two cities would be the rain. It rained every day in Edinburgh, or so she thought, and it seemed to rain every day in Orlando. The difference in Orlando was, the rain stopped and the sun shone. Edinburgh, it just rained.
She smiled to herself and gazed out the window. She gazed upon Arthur’s Seat to the east and then to Edinburgh Castle and sighed. She didn’t care about the cold or the rain here, it was home, and she loved the place.
Her father, having decided upon returning to work in the head office of the family business, which was based in Edinburgh, had jumped at the chance at going home. He was born in Edinburgh and had longed, for sometime, to return and show the city off to his American wife and daughter. He promised a new beginning for the three of them…and it was.
The upheaval hadn’t been that difficult. They left most of their furniture and brought only clothes and some favourite items her parents had bought over the years. Even saying goodbye to friends hadn’t been too traumatic. She’d always been a bit of a loner, and most of her friends were just acquaintances. Children her parents engineered friendships with and, for their sake, she let them believe were good friends.
They weren’t.
The only real down side to moving was saying goodbye to her grandparents. Although she didn’t see them as often as she would have liked because they lived in Biloxi, Mississippi, they were still her family.
Visits to see them, were mostly done during the
