The Locked Room

Part One
George had been an actor. He was now thirty, but had retired at 25, as his career was going nowhere. When 12, he had auditioned for the part of a boy detective, the movie adaptation of a successful novel, which had meant every year he had starred in a block-buster. Each movie had meant more earnings, until at the end of 19 when he was too old to play the role any more he had more money than he could possibly spend.
The London stage had welcomed him, but musicals had eluded, as his acting was far superior to his ability to warble. The reality had gradually dawned that perhaps he had peaked, so he decided that as he never needed to work again, he would indulge in his passion for comedy. There was one great that was his idol, an Irishman with the twinkle in the eye. Dave Allen.
George researched, bought books, watched all the tv shows that were available, spoke to people who had known the great comedian, it wasn’t long before he knew everything he needed to know, except for one conclusion to a Dave Allen story. The locked room. The comedian would sit in his chair on a darkened stage, voice slightly echoed on his microphone, a creaky atmosphere, as for the next ten minutes the audience were chilled to hear his story.
The tale is based on an Irish mansion in late Victorian times, with a young man inheriting the building, then shortly after marrying a beautiful young woman.
