The Truth Will Find You Out
Chapter 1
Savannah is sitting listening to Mr. Fisher. He ’ s explaining how this book he wants her to write is in no way to be published before he dies. He wants to tell his story about his life before Fisher Foundation. All the money is to go to the Foundation. His son will continue to have a position with the Foundation, same as Sammy his long-time butler and friend. Plus, Sammy was the one that lead him to the Lord. After about two hours Mr. Fisher was getting tired and told Savannah he was done for the day.
Savannah gets home and goes into starts supper. She had made a meat loaf earlier. She put it in the oven, started boiling some potatoes. Opened a can of corn and took Midnight and Goldie out for a walk. Half hour Nate comes home. Savannah tells him to go clean up and when he comes into the kitchen; she has supper on the table. He asks her, “ No word yet from Detective Lipton about Jeff and Liz?” Quietly Savannah says, “ No, nothing. You ’ d thought he would have called by now. It ’ s been three days.” Nate asked. “ How did it go with Mr. Fisher?” Savannah tells him, “ Well remember all I ’ m to do is take down everything he tells me, help him put events in order. Once we get it all recorded, then once he passes, I find a writer to turn it into a book.”
Morning comes John ’ s in the office the phone rings, John answers phone, “ Hello Bentley, Williams and Brown Investigating Services. May I help you.” A weak voice at the other end says, “ My wife, it ’ s my wife. She ’ s gone and the police can ’ t find her. Please help me find her.” John asked, “ Would it be ok if we come out this afternoon?” Savannah came in and John explained where they were going. Dee will watch the office. They arrive at Mr. Field ’ s house, he asks them in. They find out that Mr. Field ’ s is 80 years old and seems very sharp. Mrs. Field ’ s is 76 and Mr. Field ’ s says she is in great shape. He says he had just gone to the store to get some groceries. Before he left, he told her that when he got back, he was going to take her dancing.
Savannah asked, “ Mr. Field how do you think she left? Did she walk?” Mr. Field ’ s said, “ No she drove her car.” John asks, “ Did the police find her car?” Mr. Fields says, “ Oh, no she still has it with her . She can ’ t walk very well; she did not take her wheelchair.” John looks at Savannah and nods his head, to other room. Savannah asks, “ Could I use your rest room.” Mr. Fields tells her, “ Right down the hall.”
Savannah goes in through the living room, as she passes the coffee table, she sees something and picks it up. She reads it and takes it in to John. As she hands it to John she asks, “ Mr. Fields do you have any family close to you? Would there be someone we could call?” Mr. Fields says, “ Yes, my son lives in town and here is his number. I ’ m to call if I need him. Do you want him to help us?” After reading the note Savannah gave him. John said, “ You know I think that may be a good idea.” Holding the obituary notice, he calls Mr. Fields son. John says, “ Is this Martin Fields, we are here with your father. He seems to be confused. He wants us to help find your mother.” About half an hour and Martin Fields shows up. “ Dad, are you ok? I ’ m going to take you to a place where some kind people will help you look for mom. Now let ’ s let these nice people go home.” Martin Fields tells them, “ I am so sorry you see my mother died four years and just lately my father has started slipping. I ’ m afraid this is the worse. I think I need to put him in an assisted living home. I will pay you folks whatever he promised you.” John tells him, “ Don ’ t worry about that, we are just happy we could help, and we ’ re glad he ’ s safe.”
On the way home Savannah says, “ You know if this wasn’t so sad, it could almost be funny. I ’ m glad you were the one who got this case.” They get back to the office and tells Dee. Dee could not stop laughing, they made her buy lunch. Dee told them that Willow Jean was back in town after going to help her daughter Shelly get her house ready to sell.
Dee and Jim had invited a few over for a picnic and again everyone had a great time. John played ball with Joey and Faith, all the while he was missing Kathy and Tommy. He has not heard from her since she took Tommy to go stay with her mother after a heart attack. Just when Kathy and John began a relationship. Dee came over to Savannah and asked, “ No word on Jeff and Liz ? It ’ s been almost four days?” Savannah says, “ Detective Lipton told me Jeff was shot several times. I guess when they tried to escape the storage unit, Jeff got in the U-Haul, forced Liz in. Then gunned the motor and that ’ s when the officers opened fire. Hitting both Jeff and Liz. He said Jeff was in critical condition and Liz only had superficial wounds. But no one has called. I ’ m going crazy.”
Jim was asking Nate, “ How is Savannah holding up?” Nate says, “ You know I think she is doing really well. I know she is worried waiting for Detective Lipton to call, but now she is busy helping Mr. Fisher put his life story together. I think this will be a good distraction for her.”
Nate and Savannah got home and took the dogs for a walk down to the river. Then played fetch. Goldie loves playing, Midnight is not quite as energetic. He will play for a while then lay and watch. Savannah went in and made Iced Tea, brought it out on the porch for Nate and her. Nate comes around to her and sits down, the dogs follow and lay at their feet. Nate says, “ You know when John and you were telling about that case today. Well, I laughed because, face it was funny, but then when I thought of Mr. Fields. It was not funny it was so sad. Why don ’ t you find out what assisted living home his son is putting him in? Maybe we could go visit him. Which reminds me, dad called and wants us to come to dinner next week. I guess grandma and granddad will be coming.” Savannah says, “ Oh that will be nice, make sure you ask what we can bring. I know the answer will be nothing, but polite to offer.”
Morning comes John was in the office when Dee and Savannah came in. They had just sat down to the conference table when the phone was ringing. John answers, “ Hello Bentley, Williams. ”. Kelly breaks in, “ John, someone broke into the Purdy Sisters house. The police are there, and someone is still inside.” John tells her, “ Maybe we will come down.” John tells Savannah and Dee, “ Someone broke into the Purdy Sister ’ s home, and they are still in the house. Are the sisters the ones that own the dress shop for years?” Dee said, “ Yes they are the sweetest, they must be in their eighties. Not feeble in anyway. They must be scared to death.” John says, “ Let ’ s go to the bakery, we can grab an early lunch.” By the time they arrived at the bakery, Kelly was in a tizzy . She tells them, “ Oh, the guy in the house started shooting, then he starts the house on fire, with the sisters inside. The man inside starts shooting, Officer O ’ Malley got shot. Officers go inside to rescue the sisters. The man slipped out while they were trying to get the sister ’ s and help Officer O ’ Malley. Fire Department came got the fire out, sisters taken to hospital. They were beaten and hands tied.” Savannah asked, “ Kelly are you ok?” John says, “ Let ’ s get to the hospital and check on Officer O ’ Malley. Now Kelly be alert because as far as we know the suspect is out there.”
At the hospital there were several officers there. Officer O ’ Malley was in surgery. He was in serious condition. After six and half hours, he was out of surgery. He was in stable condition. The officers left to go back to search for whoever shot Officer O ’ Malley. We got word that the Purdy sisters were going to be ok. They were beaten and terrified. John said, “ How about I stay here until Officer O ’ Malley wakes up and you two go see the sisters. Room 203, second floor.”
After the hospital they went back to the bakery. Everyone was in a buzz about the shooting and the beatings. Fire Department did a good job cleaning up. The police haven ’ t caught whoever was responsible. They ate little and when they went home John warned Dee and Savannah to be careful driving home. When Dee got home, she normally put her gun on the top shelf in her bedroom closet. Tonight, she put it on the mantle. Morning comes and they went to the bakery, to catch up on the latest news. Officer O ’ Malley had come to and has no feeling in his lower limbs. The two sisters are under police surveillance until that man is caught. Savannah said she was going to go visit the Purdy sisters. She thought maybe she could help them give a description of the man. They agreed to meet at the bakery at noon, it ’ s like everyone was hurting and no one wanted to be alone. John has been close with Officer O ’ Malley and it was bothering him that he won ’ t be able to walk.
Savannah arrived at the hospital and seen an officer posted at the door to the room the Purdy sisters were in. Savannah had to s
