Description

A time-bomb is ticking away for humanity. In this fantasy thriller, which involves love, hate, treachery and sorcery the sixth-century magician Merlin plots to install Lord Sammael, the son of Lord Damnus, an evil deity from a parallel dimension, as the sole ruler of our world. It will take an apocalypse to do away with Damnus and his evil brand of rule. Even though this story is a fantasy thriller, take away the sorcery and the plot could well become a reality in our own world in years to come. Look around you, and you can already see the rise in serious crime, and the incidents of violence which are breaking out throughout the world. These problems could eventually lead to a real-life apocalypse.

Foreword
As I tell my story, law-abiding twenty-first-century people are concerned at the mushrooming rise in serious crime in the United Kingdom, and the incidents of violence breaking out throughout the world. You only have to watch television, or read the newspapers, to see that crime, bombings and warfare are escalating beyond control.
The world is also being turned upside down by the hundreds of thousands of refugees who are fleeing their war-torn homelands, and settling in far-flung countries.
It isn’t by chance that law and order are being flushed down the pan. The deteriorating behaviour in our society is being orchestrated by Damnus, a powerful despot from another dimension in time, who is inciting different factions to fight each other, and turning more and more people to a life of crime. Not only is he feeding on the misery he is creating, but he has other plans for Planet Earth.
He has summoned the sixth-century sorcerer Merlin to the twenty-first century, where he will use his sorcery to provide Damnus with what he desires, which is to conquer the world. The citizens of the world will be powerless to fight against the Damnus takeover, as weapons can never defeat the powerful sorcery at Merlin’s disposal.
Every religious sect will be wiped out, and replaced by Damnus’s own brand of malevolent worship. This will result in his yet unborn son, Sammael, governing every country in the world on behalf of his father. England will be chosen as the country in which Sammael is to be crowned King of the World.
You had better believe me, because I’ve seen his son’s coronation with my own eyes. Our monarch will crown him on a 25th of December in years to come. That date will forever be known as Damnus Day. The world population will watch the coronation in their billions, and will pledge themselves to him for all time.
You’re bound to write me off as a madman, in the same league as those people who predict the end of the world. Don’t knock them, because the evil that Damnus creates will result in an apocalypse on the day of reckoning. Every person on earth will die in the process.

Chapter One
I came to my senses with the images of mutilated and dying people in my mind, all because of the whim of Damnus in his bid to govern the world. I looked around me, and sighed with relief. My sixth-century horrors were behind me. I was back in twenty-first-century Wales, standing in the ruins of Merlin’s castle.
My girlfriend should have been with me, but she’s no longer a part of my life. I pictured her auburn hair, hanging in ringlets about her shoulders, and her jade-green eyes, which, with one look, had turned my body into warm jelly. The love we shared has been stripped from her mind. She’s forgotten me as though I had never existed. Our three-week relationship was blighted by a string of evil events. I’ll never forgive Merlin for what he put me through.
I’m getting ahead of myself. You need to hear my story from the very beginning, to understand how Merlin managed to convert mankind to the Damnus creed. To begin with, you have to appreciate that hundreds of parallel worlds exist in another dimension of time, far beyond our eyes. Damnus rules over some of those parallel worlds, while his brother, a powerful ruler called Magnus, governs the remaining worlds. The Damnus conspiracy first came to light on one of Magnus’s worlds.
Azurina, a pretty petite lady with long blond hair and stunning cornflower-blue eyes, was walking in her garden. She had hoped to ease the worries that threatened to blow her mind apart. It was a wasted effort. The demons still rode roughshod in her head. It hadn’t helped that her husband, Michael, had been summoned to an unexpected meeting with Magnus.
She heard the front door open and, moments later, Michael strolled into the garden. The tall well-built bearded man looked every inch the governor of a parallel-world earth. She couldn’t hide her tetchiness.
“You’re here at last, are you? Don’t just stand there, man! How did the meeting go?”
He shrugged his shoulders. “Reasonably well. Magnus did most of the talking, as usual. Are you sure you want to hear what he said? It can wait, if you’d rather.”
“I have to know sometime.” She snapped at him. “Come on, then. What have you let us in for?”
“It’s not as bad as you think. Magnus has set the two of us a task, but we’ll be taking a back seat for the time being,” he grunted. “That’s just as well, seeing you’re pregnant.”
She flared at him, “Trust you to mention that! I didn’t want this baby, but Magnus ordered us to produce a son for him.” She sighed in frustration. “What’s he up to?”
Michael rolled his blue eyes at her.
She screamed at him. “Don’t look at me like that! I’m only speaking how I feel.” The grumpy look didn’t suit her. “Well? Are you going to tell me, then?”
“Just calm down and I will. He’s worried about Planet Earth. There are signs of ominous changes down there. When he said that Damnus was involved, I asked if his brand of worship was taking over. He slapped me down. This is more than a religious crusade, he said. Damnus is plotting to set up his yet unborn son, in years to come, as a worldwide despot, controlling every nation on earth.
“His right-hand man is the sixth-century sorcerer Merlin, who’s totally committed to the Damnus cause. Our all-knowing leader told me that Merlin has been ordered to sire a son, to help Damnus achieve his domination of the world.”
“They’re all at it, are they, spouting out their orders for children to be spawned?” She pouted. “I’m not thrilled with the idea of mixing with Damnus. Like Magnus, he’s a powerful supernatural entity. What chance do we stand against him?”
“Magnus insists he will crush his brother’s plans. He’s ordered us to travel to earth to set things up for him. I’ll tell you what he has in mind when we get there.”
She yelled at him, “Don’t fob me off like that! You’re treating me like a complete idiot. Why are you being so damned evasive? I am a part of this, remember. I’ve every right to know what he’s up to.”
“Don’t let’s fall out. I’ll tell you what I can. I said that Merlin has to sire a child. That presents him with an immediate problem. His wife’s barren.”
Azurina chipped in. “So, another woman will bear his child. Right?”
“Exactly. That’s where we come into the picture.”
She shuddered. “Magnus isn’t expecting me to be that woman, is he?”
He laughed out loud. “What’s the point of Merlin taking your body? You’re already pregnant. That’s all I can tell you for now. The missing pieces will fall into place when we visit earth. Let’s be off, then, shall we?”
“You mean, like now?”
“I’m afraid so. Timing is crucial.” He pulled her to her feet. “Put some warm clothing on, then we’ll be on our way.”
A cold March wind swept across the forest clearing. The water in a small pool rippled as the gusting breeze rode across its surface. Dead leaves danced in the air like whirling dervishes. A crude hut stood on the edge of the clearing. Built from branches and rocks, and covered with grass sods, it was a makeshift form of shelter. A huge gnarled rock towered above the forest canopy on the other side of the clearing.
Michael and Azurina materialised on sixth-century earth. She shivered.
“I didn’t expect you to bring me to a forsaken hole like this. Why are we here?”
He pointed through the trees. “You see that clearing? Our twins will soon be walking across there on their way to Merlin’s castle. It’s not far away.”
She smiled knowingly. “You’re talking about the brother and sister we don’t have. I’m on to your little game, Mister. You’re going to create...”
She stopped talking and rubbed her stomach. Her face turned red with anger.
He looked worried. “Are you all right, darling?”
“As right as I ever can be, you swine. I’ve twigged why Magnus wanted a son of us.” Her fists beat against his chest. “You lying bastard! I’m not stupid. Our baby will end up as the child that Merlin wants, won’t he?” she yelled at him through her tears. “Why didn’t you have the guts to tell me!”
He sighed. “I’m sorry. I would have told you when the time was right. Yes. Our leader is counting on our son to snuff out Damnus’s dreams, so we have to let him go. Does that make sense to you?”
“No, it doesn’t!” She shrugged her shoulders. “What does it matter? The decision’s been made, whether I like it or not.”
“Stop beating yourself up.” He looked her in the eyes. “There’s something else you should know. You’re expecting twin boys. Our firstborn will live on earth, working for our leader. Our other boy will live with us.”
She spluttered in disbelief before her sarcasm showed itself. “Oh, how wonderful! I will have a baby to fuss over.” Her anger bubbled over. “If he thinks I’m grateful, well, I’m not. This is ridiculous. While I’m caring for one son, my other son is being thrown in at the deep end against Damnus. What is he thinking of? How can our son fight Damnus’s plans with Merlin feeding warped thoughts into his mind? Can’t the leader use his clout against earth? He
