Final Thoughts
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
First and foremost, I would like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for saving me in 2004. Without Him, I am nothing!
Next, I would like to thank my wife Charlotte for her strength in Christ. Also her support in helping me to use this book as a way to deal with the PTSD that comes with having been in Fire Service.
I want to thank my children, Naomi, Zechariah, and Jonathan for all they do to keep me laughing and loving me despite my shortcomings.
Thank you to my friend and fellow brother in the Lord, Scott A. Smith for his contributions to this book including the use of his personal testimony.
And thank you to everyone at Westbow Press and their affiliates for helping to make my dream a reality.
FOREWORD
Mike Jones, the author of The Unquenchable Fire, has over 30 years of combined firefighter, EMS and medical experience, reaching from Northern California to Wisconsin. His hospital experience began right out of high school in 1987 where he served as a phlebotomist trainee and laboratory assistant. In 1988 and 1989 he ventured into ambulance service doing several ride alongs with two ambulance companies in California. It was during those ride alongs that Mike asked a lot of questions and got to know several of the paramedics very well. They shared with him the variety of different calls that they responded to. He later worked on hospital staff in Wisconsin, and also served as a firefighter there for several years.
Mike’s writing experience also began early in his life, from creative writing classes in elementary school to writing and composition courses in high school and college. He studied drama in high school as well. This experience was developed even more later in his life when he wrote skits and plays through his local church. I was extremely surprised and impressed with his excellent writing skills, especially his attention to detail, which can only be described as meticulous. Not just concerning this project, but also his fire fighting and EMT experience, along with his detailed descriptions of the characters in this novel.
This experience is only topped by Mike’s personal Christian testimony, not unlike many, including my own. His younger years dabbling in worldly pleasures, two failed marriages, and depression that led to thoughts of suicide. In 2001, he met the woman and mother of his future children, Charlotte. They married in 2002 and began a wonderful Christian family. In 2004, Mike’s life soon turned for the better when he met the love of his life, Jesus Christ, and was gloriously saved!
I met Mike and his family when I was asked to become the assistant Program Director and Evangelist at a Christian Camp in Whitewater Wisconsin in 2010. I worked alongside Mike and his family at that camp, and quickly grew fond of them, and struck a friendship that has lasted over 10 years.
When Mike asked me to proofread his manuscript for The Unquenchable Fire and write this forward, I immediately accepted. I’m so glad that I did. When I started reading the first few chapters of the book I was enthralled. I literally could not put it down. I know others who read this will feel the same way. I greatly admire Mike and his family for writing this book with the goal of trying to keep people out of the Unquenchable Fire. God bless you Mike and family, and anyone who may be reading this... To God be the glory! Amen

“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

CHAPTER 1
It is break of day in Gold City as the sun rises slowly over the morning haze. The birds are chirping at each other as they move from tree to tree in search of a morning meal. Rain storms have been passing across the city for the past few days, so the morning calm is a refreshing change. Suddenly, the quietness of the morning is broken by the sounds of a small plane spitting and sputtering over the tree line. The pilot desperately tries to control the plane as it veers back and forth, climbing and falling as it makes its way towards the airport landing strip just a short distance away. The pilot clings to the yoke of the plane, hoping he can keep his plane level and make it to safety. “Come on, come on!” he exclaims to himself, “Just a bit further, hold on, hold on!” From his viewpoint, the airport runway seems just inches away when in reality he is still one mile out. Unfortunately, the engine stops completely and the plane comes crashing down into the tree line behind the City Baseball Field.
As the plane is going down, it has caught the attention of an early morning jogger, who is taken back in suprise to be witnessing this first hand. Quickly, he reaches for his Cell Phone and dials 9-1-1. The phone rings three times, and then is answered by the Dispatcher. “9-1-1, what is your emergency?” The jogger quickly explains the situation to the voice on the other end. “Yeah hi, I was out for a morning jog along the trails next to the baseball fields, when I saw this plane crash into the tree line.” The Dispatcher asks the caller a series of questions, to obtain as much informatiion as possible to give to the emergency personnel who will be responding to the crash. “Ok Sir, I need some information. Can you tell me your name?” He replies, “Benny, my name is Benny Greenfield.” “Ok Benny, you are calling me from your cell phone at this number, so if we get disconnected we can call you back, right?” Benny replies most assertively, “Yes Ma’am, that’s correct.”
The dispatcher continues, “Is this a commercial jet, military plane, or private aircraft?” Benny replies, “No it’s not anything big. It’s like a small low wing aircraft, probably a Piper Cherokee Six.” The Dispatcher is suprised by the jogger’s description of the plane, “Benny, how is it you can give such a correct description?” To which Benny replies, “That’s easy, I work at the airport.” The dispatcher chuckles to herself a bit and continues, “Can you tell me if you could see how many people were on the plane?” Benny replies, “I believe there’s only the pilot, but I am not sure on that.” The dispatcher states, “Alright Benny, stay on the line with me while we get some help out there, Ok?” “Sure!” comes the reply as he is placed on hold.
The Dispatcher, trained in Fire and Emergency Medical Dispatch, begins to push a series of buttons which set off fire department station tones. She then pushes a red button and speaks into her headset, “Station One with Engine One, and Medic One, respond to the City Baseball Fields at the tree line, for a reported small aircraft down. Reporting party believes only one patient, possibly more. Dispatch repeating, Station One, Engine One, Medic One, aircraft down, tree line at the City Baseball Fields. Dispatch clear at Zero Five Forty-Five.”
At the firehouse, the doors to the bays begin to rise. Firefighters are moving about inside, putting on gear and boarding trucks. Engines are started and emergency lights immediately come to life, in a mix of red and white. The engine rolls forward out of the bay as the ambulance follows close behind. Sirens begin to sound simultaneously as they alert any oncoming traffic of their entrance to the roadway, turning to the left as they depart the station.
In the passenger seat of the engine, Captain Becker reaches for the radio microphone to advise dispatch of their response. “Dispatch, Station One is in service with both units responding. Request Battalion One to the scene and a second engine from Middle Village.” Dispatc
