Chapter 1
I t was a long hot summer and Lizzy knew that she had a lot to do before she had to go on her own and get a job. She was trying to start her own interior design com pany.
Lizzy just graduated from Yale with a Master’s degree in interior design and also a BA in arts, but now she had to sell herself. She needed to get some clients from other people, businesses, and companies and that was hard to do, especially if you’re just starting out.
She went to her mother for some advice and asked her “where is a good place to go for new cli ents?”
“Maybe you could start with your own room and take before and after pictures and start a portf olio.
So Lizzy started to remove everything from her room including the carpeting. She painted her room a pale yellow. Lizzy then went shopping for a new black sleigh bed with matching dressers. She added hard wood flooring with some colorful throw rugs. She added two small lamps that were dark yellow shades and a black base to them.
When her mother walked it into the room she fell in love wit h it.
“Oh, Lizzy this is beautiful. I love what you did here especially with the pictures with the black frame around them. “Will you do my room next?”
So Lizzy got up early the next morning took her before pictures and started to remove all the furniture. She didn’t have to remove the carpet because her mother had just purchased it and it was a nice beige color. Her mother had a nice black iron bed with a pillow mattress on it. Lizzy decided to paint her mother’s room a deep rose color. She added some throw rugs Lizzy also got two small Tiffany lamps with the same rose color in them, for the drapes she got a pair of sheer rose color and birch shutters. Lizzy went to Bed Bath and Beyond for a large white patchwork comforter with roses on it. Lizzy added a large mirror to enhance the room.
When her mother walked into the room she fell in love with it and paid Lizzy for her work.
So Lizzy started to do just what her mother asked her to do and both her mother and father love everything she did.
When Lizzy was younger she was liked by all, the only sad thing was that she had very few friends; although when she entered high school she had a lot of friends and they voted her the most person likely to succeed in busi ness.
Chapter 2
I t was until mid June when Lizzy finally got a break, and the phone rang.
“H ello.”
“I would like to talk to Lizzy Whitney pl ease.”
“This is L izzy.”
“My name is Maureen Pierce, I am a client of your father’s and he told me how you remodeled your home. He said that you did a nice job in remodeling your house and I would like to hire you to come and remodel my house. I live on 545 Elm St reet.”
“I could come on Friday if that’s okay with you.”
“Let’s make if for the after noon.”
When Lizzy hung up the phone she let out a big scream, and her parents came rushing into the kit chen.
“What happened? Are you okay?”
She smiled at her father and gave him a big kiss.
“That was Maureen Pierce, one of your client’s and she wants me to remodel her house; thank you d addy.”
Lizzy got up on Friday and had some breakfast and a cup of coffee. She made sure that her portfolio was ready to go. Lizzy took out a navy blue Chanel suit with a silk blouse and matching stilettos. She took a shower and had plenty of time to relax before she left for Maureen’s h ouse.
When Lizzy came downstairs she asked her mother if she looked okay.
“You look like a VIP.”
Lizzy left the house at noon and still made it ahead of sche dule.
Maureen’s house was a two story brownstone. Her master bedroom was downstairs along with the kitchen and living room. She had four bedrooms upstairs along with her office and two b aths.
Maureen explained to Lizzy basically what she would like, but she left the decision up to Lizzy since she was the expert. Lizzy then showed Maureen her portfolio with what she’d done to their h ouse.
“I can see why your father said that your work is good; everything I see here is beaut iful.”
“I might have to hire some electricians and some painters, and I do need to get a license and bonded too.”
“That’s fine. How much is this going to cost?”
“Honestly, I don’t know.”
“How about if I start you out with one-hundred-thousand dollars and pay you the rest when you fi nish?”
Lizzy went home and showed her father the c heck.
“I think you should open up a business checking account and also a savings account too. You also might think about getting a business credit card for your exp ense.”
Lizzy was 5’7” tall and had blond hair and blue eyes. She just turned twenty- four years old and was very smart for her age. She was an honest, trustworthy person, and now she had her own busi ness.
Chapter 3
L izzy woke up early on Friday morning, got dressed and made herself a cup of French Vanilla co ffee.
Her father John came downstairs. He was the president of one of the major banks in New York. He knew a lot about banking and knew several lawyers pertaining to business. He was seventy- one years old and almost on his way to retirement. John had silvery white hair, and was very smart for his age and liked any kind of sports. He liked to do his crossword puzzles in the morning and liked to read too.
“Dad, I need a lawyer so that I can get my license and get bonded, do you know any?”
“We do have several lawyers at the bank. I will ask them today when I go to work; in the meantime you should tell Maureen that you will hold her check until you get your lic ense.”
So Lizzy called Maureen on Mo nday.
“Hi, Maureen, this is L izzy.’
“What’ s up?”
“I just wanted to let you know that I applied for a license and will hold your check until I get it, but I could still start taking my before pictures, if that’s okay with you.”
“That’s fine with me; you know what you’re doing. By the way, I am planning a Fourth of July BBQ party and I would like to know if you and your parents would like to come t o it.
“Yes, we would like to come, would you like us to bring anyt hing?”
“No I’m having everything catered; there will be music and dancing and plenty of food, also fireworks at n ight.”
Saturday came along and Lizzy wore a pair of white Levi jeans with a red white and blue shirt. John and Julie wore red white and blue too. There were about a hundred people there. Some of the people who were there worked with Maureen and some worked with Lizzy’s fa ther.
Maureen saw Lizzy and her parents and gave them each a big hug. Then she introduced Lizzy to her eldest son Phi llip.
Phillip was a tall man around 6’4” and had dark brown eyes and dark brown hair. He worked on Wall Street for more than five years, and he knew the ins and outs of trading on Wall St reet.
The music started to play and Phillip asked if Lizzy would like to d ance.
They went to get some food and sat down to talk.
“So what do you like t o do?”
“I like to shop a lot, travel, read, go to antiques stores, and I like art. I also like to go to museums, I do like to go to the gym once in a while and I like to bowl. I don’t like to watch sports; and I love any kind of chocolates and any kind of champagne. Oh I do like my job.”
“Wow! You and I have a lot in common, would you like to go out to dinner some time?”
“Yes, that sounds like it would be fun, you could call me any time.”
The party was a big hit for Maureen. Lizzy and her parents were leaving Maureen gave her a hug and said that she will see her on Tue sday.
Chapter 4
T uesday came along and Lizzy got up had a cup of French Vanilla coffee before she left for work.
Her father came downstairs and smiled at her. “You and Phillip seemed to be having a great time at the p arty.”
“We did, and we have a lot in common too.” She gave her father a kiss before she left for work.
Maureen was just about leaving for work herself and stopped to talk with L izzy.
“I’m glad I introduced you to Phillip, it looked like both of
