INTRODUCTION
B eloved readers,
I hope you enjoyed the first book in the legacy series by the RCCG Dominion Cathedral Tween class, Trees of the Bible . I’m delighted to present the second book, titled Animals of the Bible .
As a reminder, we established in the first book that our God loves variety. The beauty of variety is in its diversity. God created many different living things for His glory and for all to enjoy. In essence, we wouldn’t have so much around us to enjoy if God didn’t create many different things. Everything He made to keep this beautiful diversity alive has a part to play. Do you know your part?
The animals sure do know their part! While you read, we will again journey into the wild, sometimes into our homes and farms, where we will find all kinds of animals. Our focus will be on Bible animals because of their valuable lessons.
As always, fasten your seat belt, sit tight, and enjoy the ride!

ANT
By: Oluwamurewa Akintolu

A nts are small insects belonging to the order Hymenoptera (similarly shared by bees and wasps) and family Formicidae. This family includes over ten thousand species of ants. Scientists who study insects (entomologists) report that there are more ants than any other insects. You will find them on every continent except Antarctica. They are particularly abundant in hot climates. However, they have been known to travel far away from their original homes to different places as varied as deserts, mountain ranges, and polar regions.
Interestingly, ants travel in groups or columns to form colonies. A column can contain up to two million ants. These creatures are highly socialized. The queen spends all her life laying eggs and is the colony’s founder and mother. Other members are the workers (females) and the soldiers (males). Ants are often seen moving in a straight line. Their incredible sense of direction is due to pheromones secreted by the ant leader. The tiny antennas of the other ants detect these pheromones and follow the given path.
Ants make their nests in many materials, such as sand, leaves, and wood. The most giant ant’s nest ever found was over 3,700 miles wide. This is not so surprising as ants have been found to build structures over five hundred times their own height and can lift twenty times their body weight. They are more than just tiny insects crawling on the ground. They symbolize strength, community, and hard work.
Ants are omnivorous, meaning they can eat both plants and meat. They feed on insect eggs, aphids, fruits, tree sap, and about anything humans eat or anything they can find. Their favorite food is sugar. Have you ever seen ants in your home? A Malayan proverb says, “Where there is sugar, there are bound to be ants.” Ants can sting or bite, which could be painful. Therefore, we must be careful not to leave sugar around the house. Aside from their painful sting, ants are useful in agriculture. They turn over the soil (which is helpful to crops), disperse seeds, and pollinate plants.
The Bible references ants positively with many illustrations. There are many lessons to learn from these small but brilliant insects. They are great examples of focus, devotion, and cooperation. Proverbs 30:24–25 states, “Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise: Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer.” This means they would not have to look for food in the cold winter season, unlike other animals. Ants are good planners, focused, and hard workers, right? They know when to start and end work and when to rest. Ants are self-motivated and do not procrastinate.
Have you ever seen a lazy ant? Proverbs 6:6 advises all lazy folks to “go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise.” Many humans think they have all the time in the world, but that is false thinking. Proverbs 20:4 states, “The lazy man will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and have nothing.” We must be disciplined and do our work so we will not suffer when winter comes. Winter can mean any struggles or challenges we may face in life. Besides, if you are like a hardworking ant, winter could mean a time of rest.
Ants are also devoted and caring creatures. For instance, they have two stomachs. The workers know they must store enough food in the second stomach to share with others later during winter. This is incredible. We ought to be devoted to our visions and goals like ants. You can run over an anthill with a lawn mower, kick it in, or wash it away with water, but ants will rebuild it before you know it. It takes a lot to discourage an ant. As children of God, we should be diligent and resilient like ants.
Another lesson we can learn from ants is teamwork . Teamwork produces more remarkable results than individual work. Ants know they must work together and be united to achieve their plans during summer. Similarly, we can work better in teams. Each task could be divided according to each person’s abilities, making the end goal much more achievable. While life expectancy for the ants is only forty-five to sixty days, they do realize they must use their days wisely. Hence, they are highly organized, making them very efficient in achieving a lot during their short lives. There is no wasting time for the ant. Considering their size, do you know that ants hold the record for the fastest movement in the animal kingdom?
In summary, ants have shown us to be diligent, good planners, hardworking, devoted, wise, and resilient. These are qualities of successful and prosperous children of God. He sees and rewards our devotion to Him and every hard work (Psalm 128:2, Galatians 6:9, Colossians 3:23–24).
APE
By: Morayonife Ajewole

A pes are closely related to humans. Both belong to the family Hominidae (hence referred to as hominoids). Monkeys, on the other hand, belong to a sister family known as Cercopithecoidea. These two families were thought to originate from the same ancestors before becoming separate. The monkey family includes about 138 species (including baboons), while apes are mainly gorillas, bonobos, chimpanzees, and orangutans. A subgroup of lesser apes is called the gibbons (the Hylobatidae).
Apes can be found in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia; although historically, they are natives of Africa, Asia, and Europe. They are among currently endangered animal species with threats of extinction due to hunting activities, the loss or destruction of tropical rainforest habitat, and infections like the Ebola virus.
Apes have unique characteristics that distinguish them from other primates or animals. They are highly intelligent with great vision, do not have tails, and have a more upright posture. Gibbons, in particular, often walk uprightly, using their long arms to balance and move from tree to tree. One fact, though: among hominoids, only humans consistently move around with their legs.
Apes have a life span of up to fifty years in the wild. As omnivores, th
