"PLAIN JANE"
She ain’t no "Plain Jane", that’s for sure,
You know, like plain chips, white milk, vanilla ice cream, like peanut butter, with no jelly,
While delicious, they’re, just, you know, plain,
Our Jane is, well, flavorable, propitiuos, auspicious, memorable, remarkable, even,
Loving, nourishing, encouraging, encouraging us to do our best, to be our best,
Encouraging us to believe in and serve our God , as best we know Him or Her,
She helps us in almost any given situation, inspires us beyond our self-imposed limitations, she even takes us on vacations,
I think her favorite color is money green, as she’s always passing out the cash,
She does her best to help put us in the game, the game of life,
She motivates, inspires, believes, helps us to believe, that we can be winners, that we are champions, that we are Kings, that we are Queens,
Our Jane, not plain, is a game changer, a life saver,
Our Jane, plain, "No siree Bob"!
Our Jane, so many flavors, so many gifts, unconditional love - A God Send,
We love you Ms. Jane!

Thought about at approximately 6:00 a.m. while walking, meditating, introspecting. Just being grateful and thinking about the people God has placed in my life to help me! Composed at 6:10 p.m. this evening. I’m confident this poem speaks for all of us at Common Ground, who’ve had the privilege, pleasure, and good fortune to meet your acquaintance!
SHE WASTED HER LIFE
Did she, did she really waste her life,
She was raped at fifteen, through the pain and the shame,
Although, perversely, she fulfilled another’s need, the need to harm, to control,
Through her humiliation, her degradation, she gave birth to a seven-pound baby boy,
Unwanted, unplanned, and on her own, she raised him,
As best she could, all through the pain, shame, humiliation, degradation, her loneliness,
All alone, she raised him, through unemployment, homelessness, abuse, addiction,
She always tried to work, but she kept giving her check to the dope man,
She helped him, every Friday, for almost ten years; he used her check like it was her own,
She helped him, to raise his family, to buy their car, to purchase their home,
She helped him, to live the live she could only dream of,
She served many others, cleaning laundry, washing dishes, working at fast-food joints,
She helped them, as best she could, cleaning for them, serving them, waiting on them,
The unwanted, and unplanned child, she helped him as best she could,
Raising him to be the best man he could be,
She loved him, teaching him to love others,
She was momma and daddy, all the time, as best she could be,
Even in her pain, shame, humiliation, degradation,
All alone, through her unemployment, homelessness, abuse, and addiction, her loneliness,
Always hearing, how she wasted her life, what she could have been, what she could have been, if only….
But he knew better, because of the man she raised him to be,
For his entire life, she helped him, loved him, through it all, as best she could,
A wasted life. T don’t think so. But a helluva life, indeed.

WHAT’S NEXT?
On the night of April 3, 1968, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his final speech, "I’ve Been to the Mountaintop." In it, Reverend King hints that he believed he might not live long. He said, "We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn’t matter with me now. Because I’ve been to the mountaintop. And I’ve looked over. And I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you …. [But] I’m happy tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord." The next day, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.
The apostle Paul, shortly before his death, wrote to his protégé Timothy: "I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time of my departure is near …. Now there is in store for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day" (2 Timothy 4:6, 8).
Three times Jesus Christ foretold his death and resurrection. We come across the first foretelling in Matthew 16:21. It was right after that confession that Jesus let his disciples in on the rest of his direction/purpose, his core message ("Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" Matthew 4:17) and what it really meant for him to be the Christ. The foretelling of his own death and resurrection served to help his disciples see him as the Christ rightly, because to confess him as Christ and deny him the cross would be to have misguided expectations – for Jesus Christ, the cross was necessary. No cross, no crown! The second foretelling is found at Matthew 17:5. Lastly, the drama of this ultimate redemption story is heightened with the third occasion of Jesus foretelling his death and resurrection. It is found at Matthew 20:17-19.
Reverend King Jr., the apostle Paul, and Jesus Christ, all knew that their time here on earth was drawing to a close. All three men realized lives of incredible significance, yet never lost sight on the true life ahead. All three men welcomed what came next!
I recall a sermon I attended in late December of 2019. At several points, the pastor adamantly proclaimed: "There is going to be plenty in 2020!" Over and over; he proclaimed this message.
Well, I’m here to tell you, that only a little over half-way through, there has indeed: "Been plenty in 2020!"
We’ve had Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Rayshard Brooks and others, being murdered by current or retired law enforcement, sparking global outrage and protests. The white on black murders seemingly resuscitating feelings of angst, anger, and discomfort prevalent here in the United States during the 1950s and 60s civil rights movement.
Globally, the entire world has and continues to be overwhelmed by the COVID – 19 Pandemic. To date, there have been over fourteen million documented cases world-wide. There have been over six hundred thousand deaths world-wide. Seemingly with no end in sight!
Yes, I would say, not only has there been "plenty in 2020," but, I would surmise that being just over half-way through; there in still plenty to come.
Which, begs the question; "What’s next?" Of course, I’m going to tell you.
Like Reverend King Jr., the apostle Paul, and Jesus Christ, may we "fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:18).
Like Reverend King Jr., the apostle Paul, and Jesus Christ, let us trust in the Lord, that we shall receive our crowns, and continue to move forward. Walking by faith, not knowing whether events are divinely orchestrated, but understanding, that time is running out. Like always, there are those who may not get to the Promised Land, but have seen it. They know it exist. They will have their place – it has been prepared! Indeed, we have been warned: "The axe lies ready at the root of the trees…" (Matthew 3:10).
What’s next? You should already know. I encourage you, to just stay tuned, my brothers, sisters, and little children!

ANONYMOUS
Each and every morning, as I stared in the mirror, the physical person remained the same and the inner me remained unrecognizable,
For what seemed like forever an eternity, I was able to fool the indiscriminate eye, but I could no longer continue to fool myself,
I was anonymous,
My ego, my person, my self-image, were fraudulent, illusory, based on fiction, fantasy and disillusionment, rather than reality,
My whole life was a false advertisement, a full-colored ad, promising product I did not have in my inventory,
My relationships were a sham, a mockery, a parody of life,
My whole life had been a façade, I had been trying to get someone to fall in love with a me that I’d never discovered myself,
I had faked them out, using my gifts and talents as a camouflage,
I had been running on 60 fold, when I was meant to run a 100 fold,
I thought greatness went on sale, but it doesn’t,
True greatness cost what it cost,
Anonymous to self and everyone around me,
What did people get when they got me, ANONYMITY,
Until I was discovered, until the inner me became recognizable,
Until my ego, my person and my self-image were based on reality,
Anonymous, a helluva thing….
