Poetry
Poetry comes from deep down within
Expressing your feelings from beginning to end
The smooth flow of words creates a distinctive rhyme
Writing creative thoughts on a seamless line
You can write on paper thoughts locked in your head
Detailed lines are hopefully read
Poetry with motion poetry in the time
Random thoughts you hope will rhyme
Maybe you think now is the time
Before you forget one aging sign
Poetry can make you laugh and feel happy inside
Ink on paper creative pride
Write on a blank sheet of paper and fill it with ink
Open mind opinions of what others may think
Is this poem good enough to read and share
Will my witty rhymes take you there
Grabbing pen and paper, I begin to write
Begin in the morning and finish at night
Write down your feelings in horizontal lines
At the end of each sentence, with a closing rhyme
Until the ball of the pen bleeds dark ink
Continue to write about what you think
Let your expressions flow with an open heart
Smooth lines on paper once you start
Then express each line the meaning within
A good poem will be read from beginning to end.

Looking back
Once in a while, I’ll dream of my childhood years
Most are happy thoughts; others bring me tears
My friends were a team, growing up in a small town
Now several of their names etched in stoned on hallowed ground
Sometimes wishing I could return to my childhood past
But just like youth, those dreams don’t last
Folks tell me I should live for today, not days of old
But just like a kid, I never do what I’m told
In these days and times, there’s one thing I’ll say
I would trade this time for one childhood day
Venturing back when times were the best
Playing from sun up to sundown, no time to rest
Thoughts of being young again bring joy
Of my very first love as a teenage boy
As I look back on High School, I seem to remember
The cool nights and football in mid-September
Gametime in blankets with closest friends
Hoping for victory as the fourth quarter ends
Gathering at hotspots and circling cars
Too young to venture into smoke-filled bars
Bounce up in the morning ready to go
During childhood days, time passed slow
Communication on a bike ride or a party-line call
Simple things like that now seem small
So I’m ending this poem with another rhyme
There’s one thing for sure we can’t turn back time.

Fall
A new season has opened called the fall scene.
These bright colors change the look of summer greens
Nature displays with colorful leaves
With temperature changing and fresh air to breathe
Pumpkins displayed all over town
Crumpling leaves cover the ground
Orange-red and yellow are colorful to see
Soon the naked trees are what they will be
Chilly mornings and warm afternoons
The changing of seasons never comes too soon
This time of year feels fresh, energetic, and clean
Resting in a hammock with a calm-hearted dream
Bright early mornings and short afternoons
Looking up to see bright-colored moons
The days are shorter nighttime comes fast
Sun falls quick days don’t last
Cuddle up by a fire and relax for a while
This time fall is incredibly mild
The earth tilts, fall season begins
Find an open field and take it all in
The gust is strong, and the leaves disappear
Letting you know the next season is near
Thanksgiving starts with family and friends
Soon another season called winter begins.

Pills
We take them for energy and take them for sleep
Men take them for sex for things they can’t keep
Some take them to calm their everyday lives
Some take them for sex and satisfy their wives
They make us feel up; they make us feel down
Some make us goofy we turn into clowns
Regardless of the reasons, you take a pill for
If they make you feel better, I’m sure you’ll take more
As we got older, we noticed our medicine cabinet grew
Pop a pill here, pop a pill there, big bottles waiting for you
One for the daytime, one for the night
One for your hearing, one for your sight
Wake up in the morning, and we pop a few
Our doctors tell us it’s the right thing to do
Right after dinner, it’s pill time again
Today I’ve counted this will be ten
Pills for pleasure, some medications for pain
Remedies for the weight you don’t want to gain
How many tablets do you take a day
I can’t remember or won’t say
Plastic bottles in cabinets on shelves and tables
My god, I don’t think they consider me stable
Please take all these pills away; you see
I want to be normal, and I want to be me.
