Description

My dear readers, here is another slim book of semi-poems, stories and quasi-meditations. As usual, I have gathered the material from talking to New Yorkers who arrive in the City from all countries of the world. This is a work of fiction; I have edited the material and sometimes merged similar stories into one. New York is full of people with interesting backgrounds. The City is known as the melting pot, and also as the Big Apple. Sadly, some apples have worms in them. But apples are healthy fruits and you can choose the good parts and discard the rest. While I may not have done justice to the stories I was told, the people who told me about their backgrounds were really nice people. I am grateful to them.

“No one sees a flower, really - it’s so small - we haven’t time,
And to see takes time.”

Georgia O’Keeffe

WE SAW THE MARCHING
We saw the marching Neo-Nazi
Contingent in Richmond, torches lit,
Chanting anti-Semitic affirmations
By all appearances re-enacting a
Nightmare from the twentieth century.

And the media said; “It appears but
Is it?” Yes, it was; right there on TV
Clear proof that the anti-Semitic
Cancer felt safe marching down the
Street in clear sight of the cameras.

And, Trump said; “They are good
People”, and the media said, “Maybe
He doesn’t support them”. Yes, he did.
It appears to me that the most obtuse
And spineless people are those hired
By the cable and TV newsrooms.

It takes conviction and high moral fiber
To call a Neo-Nazi a Neo-Nazi on TV but it
Has to be done. We all have the duty to call
Evil by its name; Nazis murdered six million
People and if we give them a chance, they
Will do it again. I have no doubt about it.
Shame! We must remember it. Never forget!

A LARGE HALL FULL OF BLACK FOLDING CHAIRS
A large hall full of black folding chairs
And sitting on those chairs, women
With kids in their arms, some sleeping
Many fidgeting or crying. Nothing unusual
Here, normal activities of children
Uncomfortable in a waiting room. Looking
At this crowd I’m sad. Those women are
Waiting to apply for food stamps, WIC
