Author’s Note

Dedicated to God who has always kept me safe and alive and who has always provided. Thank you for your redemption. Also, dedicated to my family and good friends who have always listened to me; and last, but not least, Dr. Elijah Levy who is truly a good man in every sense of the word by showing compassion, empathy and understanding to those in less fortunate circumstances. Thank you for your help in publishing this book. Gracious thanks to my good friend Arlene Gardipee for her book cover design.

Celtic Woman
I am the epitome of a Celtic woman
my willful nature sometimes takes hold
this is due in part to my ancestors from Ireland
the hard times they did forever enfold
I am the epitome of a Celtic woman
my Scottish ancestors they did value thrift
they stuck to a very good and tight budget
in case one day their fortunes would shift
I am the epitome of a Celtic woman
the coalminers of Wales hear me out with black gold
they knew they would die very early from black lung
and knew they would not be very old
I am the epitome of a Celtic woman
the English have their fine tea
my ancestors from down there in Cornwall
would forever sip it out by the sea
I am the epitome of a Celtic nation
by birthright my ancestors have shown
how we can all get along together
and finally call America home
The Street Corner
He sat on the street corner with cup outstretched as people passed him by
and he wondered to himself about his situation of the how and of the why
There was a time in his life when he too had a family to boot
and the days are long past where he once wore a tie and a nice blue suit
The economy tanked and he lost his middle-class job
and his middle-class wife decided to leave him for his best friend Bob
Without any spare money in the bank and an exorbitant mortgage to pay
he slipped into arrears and had nowhere else to stay
It could very well happen to anyone in this day and age
as we have all felt like rats at one time in a big fat, round cage
So now he hawks for spare change to subsidize his shelter
and curses the highly-paid executives who helped the economy to falter
Change
We voted in our first black president called Barack
who is going to do his best to steer the armed forces out of Iraq
He says that this nation needs extraordinary change
and that he will do his very best and social services he will rearrange
People from around the world applaud this country’s decision
and realize that in America you can overcome any division
Inauguration for Obama is just a month away
let’s hope that he never again says present, but responds with a yea or nay
Obama does get it, however, and this I really do know
and he will help to facilitate the seeds of cooperation between people to continually grow
The Royal Air Force Captain
The Royal Air Force captain was every girl’s dream come true
as he turned out to be an English prince and she had conveniently lost her shoe
The fairytale was quickly moving right along
as they danced on the veranda he dedicated to her a song
She wished forever that this night would never pass
and that his arms wound tightly around her would forever last
But the midnight clock struck twelve and would not be abated
For this very evening they both had forever waited
The pumpkin did not appear as girls have always been told
but a beautiful love affair developed and it did both of them enfold
The War
There were two young lovers who married just in time before the second world war
And then he was sent off to fight Hitler from England in his little Spitfire
He saw action over Germany as they began to shell
and he felt that he was now literally going through hell
He knows that his thoughts about his new found wife
kept him from danger and kept him alive
He survived the bombings and lived to see the war’s end
and now he and his young wife have a son just around the bend
Ancestors
My ancestors have come and gone before me
they were immigrants who were coalminers and domestics
and one even worked in a chemical factory
They came from other lands to search for a better life
They came from other lands where there was great internal strife
Some had third grade educations and some had none at all
but it didn’t stop them from pursuing the American dream
as Ellis Island she did beckon and she did call
They raised their big ‘ole families with sacrifice and hope
that the following generations would always be able to cope
So here’s to my ancestors hip hip hooray!
They were always fine examples and made us what we are today!
The Comparison Shopper
She chooses her coupons as she chooses her men
she would skim through the newspaper’s ads looking for the best bargain
While she cared about the kind of quality she would get, of course
she knew she couldn’t afford to lose any money in case she might have to go through a divorce
She sighed that good men were always hard to find nowadays
especially when they are shopped around for like a common jar of mayonnaise
Got Breakfast
I’m damn lucky if I get any breakfast in the morning after I’ve performed
but how come more beautiful women seem to get all that jewelery to be adorned?
Maybe my night’s performance didn’t rate any awards
But when they picked me up in the local bar the night before they sure did say all of the right words
When will I ever learn that they don’t really care about me
and what all the men really seem to care about is their trajectory
I never had the chance to meet the love of my life
because it always seemed that they chose to make someone else their wife
