ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS In 2018, I spent a weekend with David Mungoshi, Memory Chirere, Ignatius Mabasa, Philani Nyoni, Mercy Dhliwayo, Karolina Jeppson, Goran Goransson and other literature enthusiasts from Sweden.. I watched David, Memory, Mercy and Philani read and perform their poems and I said to myself, “Damn! This is cool!” A few weeks later, Mbizo Chirasha gave me space for my first poem, „Magamba Hostels‟, in his Brave Voices journal. That did it! The padlock that had kept poetry trapped inside was broken at last. David and Memory went on to read my manuscript and recommend certain changes that helped in shaping this collection to what it is today. Many amorning, Ignatius Mabasa would say, “The way you are writing young man…” A comment of that nature from a literary guru of Ignatius Mabasa‟s standing helped in building my confidence. During my first tottering steps as a poet, the Zimbabwe Historical Association Whatsapp group became the slate on which I wrote some of my early pieces. And oh, how they read them! How they encouraged me to continue writing! Edward Dzonze and the Poetry Intercourse Whatsapp group, Khumbulani Muleya and the Gourd of Consciousness Whatsapp Group, Zimbabwe Writers Association Whatsapp Group, UZ Department of English and Media Studies Whatsapp Group, Harare Book Club Whatsapp Group, Writing Issues Whatsapp Group, and the wonderful Mudakuvaka Family Whatsapp Group all provided platforms for me to write my poems and be groomed, through their gentle feedback, into the poet that I am today. My poetry mate, Millicent Yedwa, with whom I am writing something that does not have a name, something that is even strange to us, I am grateful for the long discussions we had concerning poetry, and for availing your inbox to me to use as a creative slate.
