Overview
E. C. is like a secretary recording the ideas, reflections, and prayers as he goes about his life in going to church, in working, in teaching tennis, in playing tennis, and in visiting his friends. The ideas help him to see what is important in his life and a direction to go towards. He thinks that certain ideas and people come through our lives at certain times for a reason. He thinks that often God brings these ideas and stories to us as we go about our journey in life.
E. C. has been a groundskeeper for tennis courts especially the green soft tennis courts. And he has taught tennis in the parks.
Author’s Note
One possible way to read this book is to open up the book at random and read the page that one opens up to. There may be some idea that will grab you.
Chapter One
May I love God,
May I love others today,
May I love all of creation...
and integrate my movement into that...
integrate my whole life into that.
From Church - Fr. Nutan
May we have compassion to action through God’s grace,
May we be humble and live a life of service for God,
May our life be nurtured through the Holy Eucharist, the mass and the sacraments,
May we labor in the church for the salvation of all...
doing for others in our lives with a good heart,
My we live a simple life and serve...
to do things in the right way.
For what is really important...
the Surrender Novena...
to untie the knots...
good for our health also. 1
2/5
From Church - Father Randy
Father said that Jesus encouraged us to generously share the gifts that God has given us. 2 It reminded me how generous my mother was, my sisters are, and my father was.
What is reality...
the bricks on the floor,
my hands,
my health,
spending time with that person.
2/2
From Church - Fr. Ryan
Father explained that an orderly temple is really us ordering our lives to God. The human temple becomes the divine temple. Jesus’ body... His body is the temple. May we receive Jesus... God the Father... and the Holy Spirit into our body. Then our body is the temple of the Lord.
May we receive that “divine light”...
May that “life” burn in our hearts...
in our own sanctuary....
For each person is a temple of the Lord. 3
Today at mass, I thought what we are doing here in mass is more important than the virus shot. God’s hand is stronger... the singing, the mass, Bernie and Mike, Cindy, Bob, the chalice and wine are prettier than any movie... the man’s singing.
Thank You God for being with me.
From Church - Father Randy
Father Randy talked about the Kingdom of God. He mentioned how helpless man is at times. Still there is a process of living things. And that which starts lives for God is often imperceptible... still the growth of the Kingdom of God is going on. Father went on to note that through it all God will be with us and He will work for goodness. And Father Randy said that there is no room for pessimism. 4
2/9
Walking and being present with God...
the same with tennis and serving.
From Church - Father Bob
Father Bob talked about how we are attached to certain things like fame, reputation, to be someone, to look a certain way. He said that one attachments weigh us down... keep us from being who we are... from being free. He noted how the yoke of the world is real heavy.
Now Jesus says for us to take “My yoke.” It is lighter and then together we will walk together side by side... yoked together to pull the cart of our lives. 5
2/13
On Valentine,
Am I opening up my heart to another.
That is the thing.
May I see God’s will versus
a life centered on me.
May I open up my heart to another...
stopping a moment and looking through their eyes.
May I make myself an instrument
of God... a cathedral of God.
May God sing through me.
A friend named Catherine signs her letters... “love and prayer in His sacred Heart.”
This is like a quotation I found today.
“Dwelling in the Heart of Jesus... our sanctuary. In this are we united to the Father and Spirit through His Son, to dwell in His Heart, to live in His love and from His love. This is how we were created.”
unkown
From Church - Father Tony
Father Tony noted that “lent” is a time to slow down... a time to reconcile with God and others... and a time for a deeper conversion of faith. He mentioned that St. Augustine was unable to rest until He rested in God... and it may be the same for us. 6
May our prayers for the world be our song to God.
May we help bring God’s love and presence to others.
May we help make something beautiful for our world.
May we love.
During this time I began to explore the meaning of the words “compete” and “compassion.”
From my reading the meaning of “compete” included some ideas of “striving after together” and “strive with”... compete with together... to strive after. I pictured together to strive after getting this ball over the net and in bounds.
Now the word “compassion” included the ideas “with” and “passion”... “suffering”... “to endure.”
From Church - Father Randy
Father noted in church that there are things that will require some kind of cost to us. And he mentioned that some things are worth the cost. He went on to say that in “compassion” we feel for people hurting and we work to relieve their needs.
