Description

Ten years ago, Stephen Matheson was a troubled 19-year-old Alpha who struggled between living in two worlds.

Although his Type 4 Status should have placed him among the elite, he was the lone exception to a Lower Type bloodline. With his family’s reputation keeping him from the preferred lifestyle, and his Type 4 Status isolating him from the community he was born into, Stephen decided drugs were his only answer. But when his younger Omega brother found his hidden stash and overdosed, his family and authorities blamed him. Now, ten years later, Stephen is back in Tauris City to prove he is not the lost soul and waste of a human he once was.

When Stephen stumbles into South Street Tavern and meets the pioneering Omega bar owner Alexander Daventry, he believes fate itself has intervened. The instinctual pull tells Stephen he has found what every Alpha waits his entire life for: his Fated Mate. There’s only one problem. Alexander doesn’t feel the same for him. Instead, he is completely disgusted by the Alpha’s former reputation and can’t believe he’s been coerced into offering him a job as his bar back. But Stephen is convinced Alexander is meant to be his and will do what it takes to break down Alexander’s tough exterior.

De dications:
T his book is dedicated to any artist who sometimes find themselves lost in this crazy thing we called life. Don’t give up on your dream and stay true to who you are. Your story, in whatever medium you choose, is good enough. The world without art is black and white. Let your color shine through and make this a bet ter place.
I especially want to dedicate and say thanks to the following:
To “J”—for still being by my side when I feel alone; the friendship you continue to show me is humbling, inspiring, and irrep laceable.
To “A”—for continuing to show me that love is unconditional and that family is a strong bond which can never be broken as long as love is there.
To “M&D”—for unconditional love and always supporting me as your son.
To “M”—for showing me that love is still a risk and it still hurts but it is still very worth it.
To “E”—for not giving up on me and still showing me that you beli eve in me.
To “JMP”—for still putting up with me in all my craz y madness.

C hapter 01:
Wor king Hard F or A Dream
“S o, you better turn this place around. Or else!” Eric glared at the Omega, making sure he felt the dominating pheromones fumin g off him.
Alexander’s shoulders fell as he could barely stand to look at the Alpha coming down on him. In the corner of his eye, he saw his hired help sweeping up the broken glass at the front entry of his bar. Although he was grateful the angry protestor didn’t get a chance to break a main storefront window, it still didn’t do anything positive for his own reputation as an Omega business owner, nor the bar itself. He glided his fingers through his ice blonde hair, combing out the frustrations. “I don’t know what else to do!” he let out. “I’ve had Bruce and James here since New Year’s. They’ve curbed a lot of the activity that was happening before. But they can’t predict if some psycho is going to walk up to the building and throw a rock through m y window.”
Eric bowed slightly, allowing a canned yellow light to bounce off his shaved head, accentuating his distinguished goatee, dark skin, and black eyes. “You said there was a note attached to the rock?” Alexander nodded. “What di d it say?”
Alexander remembered every word hastily scribbled on the crumpled paper. He could have recited each painful passage perfectly to the city inspector but chose to keep it vague, hoping to minimize any damage Eric could impose on him. “The same rhetoric that’s in all the hate mail I get and side comments I hear. ‘Omegas create pups, not businesses.’ ‘Omegas support establishments, not own them.’ ‘Of all things you chose to own a bar? How disgusting! You should be ashamed to call yourself an Omega.’ Oh, and my favorite: ‘Why don’t you sell the bar to an Alpha who knows what they’re doing and just become a manager or bartender?’” Heat rose on his cheek bones, and he clenched h is fists.
Eric used his thumb and index finger to outline his full lips. “Why don’t you just sell it?”
“Why? Because I’ve worked my whole life for this opportunity. Besides, most Alphas who come in here think I’m stupid and try to lowball me an offer as if they’d be doing me a favor by taking it off my hands. It’s ridiculous.” He shook his head. “Doesn’t matter anyway; I’m not selling. And I’m surprised you would even ask that when…” The Omega squinted his eyes, wondering what Eric was really getting at. “Or are you trying to tell me so mething?”
Eric rolled his heavy shiny pen between his fingers. In his other hand, he held his city inspector’s report book. Small empty boxes leered back, tempting him to strike a check in the perfect pattern to easily shut the bar down, eventually forcing Alexander’s hand. “I just want what’s best for this place. I’m getting nervous is all.” The words he spoke trickled down into his stomach, making it tie i nto knots.
“Yeah, I know what you really mean.” Alexander turned and hustled his way into the back room, hearing Eric closely b ehind
