Description

This collection of poems covers many topics, from God's Creation to the Queen's jubilee. A recurring theme highlights the different aspects of humanity's path through life from birth to adult maturity and beyond, and many of the poems have been inspired by Margaret Harper's experiences of bringing up a family and her struggles with severe depression and hearing loss.

Acknowledgements
My grateful thanks to the NHS management, medical teams and User Voice, who supported me during my times of severe depressive illness. Also for the rehabilitation initiatives to raise self-esteem, which kindled the flame to write poetry.
Many thanks to Lynda Leitch, who read my poems and encouraged me to get them printed and published.
My gratitude goes to Michelle Gillard for typing the words and creating the early original composition to finesse, before publication was contemplated.
As a deafened person, my sincere appreciation and a special thank you must go to the Reverend Dave Tubby for his support and leadership in communication with the publisher to ensure a smooth transition of information - I am deeply grateful.
I share with you loving memories of my beloved husband, Gordon, devoted, steadfast, a rock and a highly polished diamond, supportive to the end. My sincere compliments also go to our two praiseworthy sons (who make me proud to be their mother) and especially my daughter-in-law and delightful grandchildren.

Foreword
My poems are not poems in the true sense of the word, they are words laced together in concise form, to highlight a problem, to spotlight suffering, to open ideas, thoughts for reflection and careful consideration. Pathways through tunnels of darkness, hope to walk towards light. Aspire to a brighter future.
During a successful career photographing manufacturers’ products, I was awarded my qualifications of Associateship of the Institute of Incorporated Photographers and the Royal Photographic Society for the high calibre of my work.
In God’s grace, the words of memories recalled.
My married life evolved; time to settle down to raise two precious, energetic sons. I had met my match! A responsibility I could not delegate.
In my fortieth year I was diagnosed with empirical depression. There followed several mental-health breakdowns over the next twenty years, whilst raising a family, part-time work and support to senior parents. The cruelty of depression is negative thinking; a very deep low mood! So powerful, needing medical support and attention.
‘Do not fear, for I am with you.’
Isaiah 43:5
In desperation, I made two decisions: to write poetry and to challenge every negative thought with a positive one; and so poetry became my therapy.
‘The God of Grace will restore you and make you strong.’
1 Peter 5:10
As I was no poet I chose a theme based on my love of God, and the emerging generation of young people - stepping into the adult world for the first time.
‘Your word is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path.’
Psalm 119:105
In my sixtieth year I found freedom from mental-health relapses and later provided sure and steadfast support for my beloved disabled husband until his death.
It has been a joyful blessed experience for me to have found light at the end of the tunnel, with much joy and pleasure visiting family overseas; still captive to medication for life.

Creation
Thank You, Lord,
For the perfection of Your Creation, the magnitude
and splendour of the still-unfathomable universe.
Thank You, Lord,
For every seed that grows, for every tree and flower
Unfolding in endless shapes and delicate shades of
subtle colour, perfumed varieties too.
Thank You, Lord,
For light, food and water and all fertile life-sustaining
natural resources; for myriad roots unseen going down deep,
strengthening and supporting nature.
Thank You, Lord,
For the speed and sound of birds in the sky as they
encircle the earth and hop into our gardens free to
enjoy; lost in wonder at the ease of flight, we marvel at
the immense knowledge of our Creator.
Thank You, Lord,
For the animals large and small, black to white,
each with their own special nature: fearful, friendly,
demanding, trusting, abused or protected as man sees right.
Thank You, Lord,
For the fish of the sea, in oceans, rivers and streams –
fish long and short, swift and slow, disappearing
silently in waters emerald green and midnight blue,
