There was nothing quite like looking at the most desirable woman in the room and knowing that you were the one who was going to be fucking her later on. Tommy was content, for the moment, to stay in the background: tonight was Bethany’s big night and he was honestly pleased for her. She was working the room, as she might have said, mingling with all the faces, looking utterly stunning in the simple white trouser suit, her pale gold hair all piled up on top of her head. Most of the other women there had gone for strapless frocks and high heels, which Tommy didn’t mind at all – he’d always liked to have a bit of eye-candy around – but when Bethany was in his line of sight, the rest of the girls all seemed interchangeable. For a brief moment, it occurred to him that he looked pretty much like all the other men in the place, with very little in the way of visible signals that he was here with Bethany Holland, that he’d been seeing her for three months, that there had been at least two paparazzi-type shots published of him holding her hand. He shrugged the thought away and drank the remaining champagne in his glass: almost immediately, a waiter appeared and offered him some more.
