Description

Meet the Mighty Minds team - Liam, Harry, Ollie, Annabel, Chin, Dominic, Yusef and, of course, Liam's ever- loyal black Labrador puppy Jack - a team destined for a truly mighty adventure. Liam and his friends are transported to a place where dreams become reality. Liam's dream is not too dissimilar from that of many other aspiring boys of his age. Liam wants to be the best he can be, he wants to be the world's greatest footballer. Who is the magical character that appears to them? What will they learn in this mysterious place called the higher pitch? It is indeed the World's Greatest Footballer and he will teach them the secrets to playing the most wonderful and beautiful game. A secret that will make the Mighty Minds team truly mightier than they could ever imagine. It comes complete with the trickiest tricks, talking footballs, flying eagles, roaring tigers - together with the power of breathing and the power of believing. Is it all a dream? Or is their adventure as real as it seems? With a bump and bounce they land feet first into their first real game having learnt the first lesson in the greatest game on earth.

CHAPTE R 1
Dr eam the Ma gic!
Liam pulled on his pyjama bottoms. H e didn ’ t like
evenings very much as he always had to go to bed
early . And he especially didn ’ t like F riday evenings
as he had football the next day and was always way
too excited to sleep . Liam loved football mor e than
anything else in the world. The next best thing in
the world was his dog, J ack.
“Liam, are y ou in bed yet?” his dad shouted
from the hallway .
“Y es!” Liam hurried, pulling his top over his
head and leapt into bed. “Dad, can you tell me a
stor y?”
“N o stor y tonight, Liam, ” said Dad, switching
the bedroom light off. “Good night, S on. ”
Liam pulled the co vers up o ver his head. He
couldn ’ t stop thinking about the match tomorro w .
H e knew that his team had to win to be in the
semi-finals, but he had been playing rubbish in the
last few games.
H e tossed and turned, scrunching his eyes closed,
forcing himself to go to sleep . Harry , his best friend,
told him his granddad taught him to count sheep
to help him sleep . Harry said it always worked for
him, so Liam thought he would give it a try .
H e tried to picture a sheep in his mind, but
all he could see wer e baby lambs – little white
lambs running towar ds a white fence. H e could see
something on their feet… boots, little black and
white football boots!
Liam chuckled to himself .
The first lamb jumped the fence.
Then the second and then the third – all w earing
their football boots.
As they landed they began to take their positions
in the field.
As if by magic, a ball bounced onto the grass.
The lambs began to run, dribbling the ball with
their noses – just like Liam ’ s dog, J ack. Liam got
annoy ed with J ack whenever he did this, but he
also found it very funny .
