You ll find a few little personality quizzes to help you figure out what s right for you when doing your homework, choosing extracurricular activities, and more. Feel free to write in the book as you take the quizzes-after all, they re all for you! We also have a few sections called Raising Your Parents. Share these with your mom and dad to help them know what s going on in your world.
Each chapter ends with a section called Checking In. It includes a Bible verse, a few thoughts about how to apply it to your life, and a short prayer.
So get ready to know more about God, more about yourself, and more about what to expect in this crazy world called middle school.
If somebody gave you this book, this might be the first time you ve ever thought much about God. That s totally cool. After all, you can t see Him or just call Him on your cell phone. And let s face it, if He does exist, He s got to be ginormous, so you might wonder why He would be interested in listening to you or care about you. Well, the truth is, God does care about you. In fact, He probably arranged for you to pick up this book! His number one priority is getting to know you and becoming friends with you. Seriously! You re at the top of His list of things to think about. In fact, He loves you so much He even took care of the one thing that s been keeping people away from Him. We ll explore that later.
So let s get started! Let s find out how you can survive and even thrive in middle school!
How Do You Feel About Middle School?
As you get ready to dive into this new adventure of middle school, it s probably important to figure out how you re feeling about the whole thing. Are you excited? Nervous? Somewhere in between the two? Well, here s your first little unscientific quiz to figure out how you re feeling about middle school. Just choose the phrase below that best describes how you re feeling as you get ready to make this change.
Really excited! New friends, different classes, sports, music, drama I m finally starting to grow up!
Kind of happy but not sure what to expect. Are the eighth graders really that big?
Kind of curious. What classes should I take? Will I have lunch with my friends? What if I get lost? What activities should I do this year? What if I forget my locker combination? I ve got lots of questions.
HELP! Whose idea was this anyway? I m moving to Argentina!
If you checked the fourth option, thanks for your honesty. (Although, come to think of it, Argentina probably has middle schools too.) If the idea of middle school is scary for you, remember that you re not alone. Change is hard for everybody-even adults. It usually means leaving something comfortable, something you re used to-like elementary school-and stepping into something a little more unknown. Everybody gets nervous about something. A lot of people don t show it, but they are nervous. But trust us, in a couple of days or weeks, you ll get so used to the middle school routine that it will start to feel totally comfortable. In fact, you ll probably be helping other kids figure stuff out. If you have a lot of questions, don t worry-this book will answer almost all of them.
How to Get Over Middle School Phobia
It s not unusual to be a little curious or even a little nervous about the transition to middle school. After all, you ve been in elementary school for five or six years. You ve gotten used to the routine. You have one teacher all day long, you re at the same desk, you work on some math or spelling or history, and then you have recess and lunch, and before long, it s time to head home. Simple, huh? But now they re throwing this middle school thing at you. There are so many unknowns.
But hey, you ve got this. You re going to be great! If you find yourself a little nervous about the whole thing, here are some quick tips that will help lower your anxiety level. In fact, these ideas can help you no matter what you re nervous about.

1. Keep moving! Did you know that running around, playing soccer, or riding your bike is not only good for your body but also good for your brain? If you re feeling worried or anxious about something, try exercising a little bit. Go for a jog or a walk with the dog. Shoot some hoops. Even a little bit of exercise will help your body calm down.
2. Get some sleep. Are you a morning person or a night owl? Either way, make sure you get at least nine hours of sleep each night. Getting in this habit will help you function at your best and feel less anxiety. Sounds good, huh?
3. Please (don t) pass the cookies. We all love sweets, but sometimes sugar can give you even more anxiety. Yikes-don t want that! If you re dealing with anxiety, try to cut down on sugary sweets as well as foods with caffeine-pop, coffee, tea, and even chocolate. And remember to drink lots of water. Your body (and your feelings!) will thank you for it.
4. Fun in the sun! Believe it or not, getting 15 to 30 minutes of sunlight every day will help your body feel calmer. So go outside and soak up some sun! Just make sure to put on sunscreen so you don t get burned.
5. Alone, please. Having some downtime every day is a great way to make the switch back to school at the end of summer. Take an hour to sit and read or listen to an audiobook all by yourself. Why don t you take some time to draw? Or write stories? Or read a chapter from your Bible? Being alone at least once a day is a great way to keep your body and e
